Used to love watching Trials when it was on Eurosport many years ago. That and the biathlon and ski jumping, I found those very relaxing to watch when I was five
Outstanding cuts/clips and great commentary make this a pleaseure to watch even for people who have never seen this spot before. Great work. Fun to watch.
I started with stadium truck videos, and ended up in herre after an hour or so. And it starts to blow my mind, how we as humans always try to push the limits of every single thing that exist :D make everything a competition. It's crazy and yet thats what drives us as a species in general.
It's observed motorcycle trials, usually just called trials or moto trials (there're versions with BMX bikes, dirtjump-like bikes and even sidecars). The goal is to complete each section while scoring the least amount of points. You score points by exceeding the time limit (1 point every 30 secs), tiptoeing when your rear wheel is hanging or putting a foot down. You get 5 points if you fall, put both feet down or don't follow the course properly. Speed counts (time limit is there) but it's all about the technique. Thankfully each rider has an assistant that tries to give his rider tips on how to clear certain sections while also trying to get a hold of the bike in case the rider falls weirdly. Each year of pro trials is divided into the World Outdoor Championship (now called TrialGp) and the World Indoor Championship (X-Trial), a bit like AMA Motocross and AMA Supercross are different championships. Outdoor competitions are very different, with sections combining natural and man-made obstacles, also you need to ride the bike from section to section (short trips but still annoying) and each day is usually 2 laps. The outdoor sections tend to have alternate routes for the lower classes (Junior, Youth and Women). Indoor competitions are a lot tougher, with entry lists being much smaller due to the immense riding skill needed to clear even the smaller obstacles. In this video you are literally watching the top8 riders worldwide... and even them have a very hard time.
Outdoor trials are amazing. It's not as big in the states, but does exist. If you have a chance to see in person, I highly recommend. These athletes are in perfect balance with their machines. It's a beautiful combination of endurance, technology and balls.
Como sempre assistir X-trial...e emocionante eu uma vez de assistir ao vivo é a cores no ginásio do Ibirapuera nos anos 80 de ouro jamais esquecerei valeu.... Como os encontros de motos lá...ha noite.
I never grow tired of watching all his clips on UA-cam. But I do feel sorry for Adam Raga. He's also an excellent rider, but he got his timing wrong. If Toni Bou didn't exist in the same timespan, he would be world champion. It must be frustrating to always be the Bridesmaid and never the Bride. 😪
I don't think I could have gotten into this sport when I was young enough to have tried, BUT I know it takes a huge set of multiple skills, which I won't try to list, and an extreme amount of practice. The stuff these riders do with their motorcycles is almost unbelievable, and I probably wouldn't believe some of it, if I hadn't seen it. My hat's off to them and this sport.
It's mostly just practice. How many people do you know that put this much time into this or anything else and still suck at it? If anyone of these guys picked up a guitar and spent just as much time practicing it as they did riding they would be professional musicians.
I have never seen this sort of motorcycle riding/competition before. I am in awe of the athleticism that has to be required, mental and physical. I tip my hat in respect to these people. :)
Nice! Such amazing skills. Hey, quick question for you trials gods... What sort of cross-training do you do to augment your skill set? Slacklining/tightrope? Unicycle? Gymnastics? Climbing? Ballet? (I understand this was popular cross-training for NFL players, at least "back in the day.") I'm sure you spend time on bicycles (ideally offroad) for cardio while honing riding skills. I know you spend ungodly hours on your sport of choice, but I'd be curious to see what alternate activities you pursue to hone your skills on the bike. Thanks!
you would love to practice it, the discipline, the hardness of it and the peace that you feel with yourself depending on where you practice it, it is incredible
14:23 Love to see how Bow and Raga are casually chilling in the background... two direct opponents respecting each other and discussing the course!! Great sportsmanship guys!!!
Each to their own of course but bloody hell, this is excruciating. PS, I heard a bloke say “if you can’t win then second place is the best you can achieve”. Philosophy as well 😀
are you serious? i knew about MTB Trials and I thought that was insane enough, now i find out people are doing it with a 150 pound motorcycle? amazing stuff

To be that skilled in such a little known sport, (at least in Australia), is simply awe-inspiring. The 52 minutes just flew by.

@@soleymandm3181 I don't know, but it is, more than likely, a source of expense and injury, to most people who get into it, like most motor sports.
