  • Race 2 of the annual Crocs Summer Regatta run by Royal Cape Yacht Club, Cape Town on Table Bay, featured some heavy air in the region of 30+ knots courtesy of the Cape Doctor which resulted in a lot of adrenaline and loads of damage to gear and sails across the 60 strong fleet. The Pacer 27 Sport "Regent Express" managed to complete the course without a broach or any damage to take 1st place in Div 1 for this race. The video is edited and features a short clip of some of the downwind sailing, including a gybe. Still photos thanks to Trevor Wilkins. Video footage by GoPro.

Look's like a lot of fun.
How come your crew goes to the foredeck for the gybe, is that how you you do it, or were you having gear issues?
    Thanks for the post.

To gybe efficiently in heavy breeze and especially when using the masthead spinnakers, this was the best way to get the clew around the forestay. The lazy sheet would lie in front of the forestay and above the bow prodder. I made a short video on "How to gybe a Sports Boat" which you can check out on UA-cam, which takes you step by step through the process and explains the process better than this text.
