Informative as always Terry, thanks. I found an interesting case recently. A manager in a tech firm wanted to hire an employee in another team in the same firm who was facing layoff. This is common enough, employees facing redundancy are given 2 weeks to find another position in the firm. However the manager was informed that the employee was marked as "no regret attrition". Essentially this means the employee is on an internal blacklist, and cannot be transferred or rehired. Employee was thus marked by an overseas manager who had never met the employee based on a verbal report of poor motivation and performancd. No performance improvement plan or other evidence was shown of poor performance. Do you know if such internal company blacklists are legal? Is the employee entitled to know whether they are on one?
Hi Terry, I’m currently working my notice at my current job, I haven’t been there long and am still on probation, do I need to work this notice? Contract states “we reserve the right not to apply full contractual and disciplinary procedures during notice period” What does this mean??
That was fascinating. It ended up being simple, but it was fairly convoluted in how the dispute progressed.
