Thanks man! Best video I've seen so far on why excess thrust and excess power are different!

I have a very simple (I think) explanation if somebody has a minimal interest in car can understand:
    Vx is torque
    Vy is horsepower
Vx aka torque needs if you want to tow a caravan to the hill. (Steep climb, Vx, slow but steep, like a tractor)
Vy aka horsepower needs if you want to go fast on highway. (accelerate, need to cover horizontal distance fast, Vy)
The rest is magic with those charts ;)

@Merryfaceaviation , brilliant explanation! Could you please do one on Vmd vs Vmp as well, in the context of Max range vs. Max endurance please?

This is a great way to explain it. So does changing the pitch of the propeller blade change Vx? Seems it would

At 4:43 you have Vx as best RATE of climb...is Vx not best angle of climb?

I have one question. Is it correct to say that VX would indeed be correlated to Vmd (The velocity where you have minimum drag or green doy speed)? Because the jet engine thrust avaliable remains quasi constant no matter the airspeed?

Excellent question! I have to admit I don't remember the answer, especially as this video is mainly focused on prop aircraft.

For jet aeroplanes, Vx is equal Vmd speed. But, for propeller, Vx is smaller than Vmd speed. It is because of their different thrust producing characteristic.

thanks ! a lot in the summary please add that VY is were Maximun excess thrust (not pwr, little mistake ) but helps a lot to understand !

Hi buddy, thats a great explanation. But i would like to learn why faster speed reduce angle of attack of the blades? Is not its angle same? So, i would expect it to pull more air as it gets faster and produce more thrust.

The aoa of the blades decresces because de relative wind of the rotation of the propeler has less and less angle in relation to the horizon as the plane speeds up

Well explained....thank you..... Left of the minimum if i reduce thrust(throttle down Power) speed increased and right of minima if i increased thrust(throttle up) speed increased, is that right?

    • @MerryfaceAviation
      @MerryfaceAviation  2 роки тому

I'm afraid not! Left of the minimum you'll slow down quicker the slower you go.

At 7:22 you said Vx by mistake. I think you meant Vy.
