One of the best lessons about jazz comping ever. I learned more from this video and practicing it over and over in a couple days than I’ve made in some years.
This man is the very best guitar teacher on UA-cam - by far. He is not just super talented, but conveys everything so clearly. All of Frank's tutorials are a object lesson in clarity and thoroughness. Thank you!
Fantabulous. I have learned so much from Frank and Vinnie. Really opened my eyes to the possibilities available. fingerhorn4 was right. The best guitar teacher(s) on UA-cam. Thanks guys.
Thanks for the great video! Coming from more of a punk rock style this was my first take on real jazz guitar. I'm to perform this song in a family event and this helps me so much. I could pick up the chording quite easily from here too -- mainly i've just used basic open and barre chords like 7's previously. I still haven't grasped the chord patterns, substitutions and progressions completely but I'm sure I will find them useful later in my own compositions as well.
Great analysis and breakdown of this Harry Warren classic. Frank gives straight ahead advice in a transparent cogent style. And he credits the composer for this timeless tune that lies so beautifully under the fingers on the guitar. That is talent and humility in a gifted performer. I'm curious about the guitar. It almost sounds like a nylon string archtop.
Hello, thank you very much for this great tutorial. I like that you aim for the simplest possible harmony at first, it's much easier to get that into the ears at first, and then the richer substitutions sound ... richer, and I'm not locked into what others suggest. Sometimes the substitutions actually obscure the tune, if I don't have the baseline firmly in mind. Another harmonic simplification I'd suggest: the D7 at 4:14 really felt out of place to my ear. I much prefer playing Bb base Ab (full progression EbMaj7, Bb/Ab, Eb/G, C7), which is much more traditional harmony, and the melody fits perfectly on top of it. Some might find it bland, but to me it feels like that's a better harmonic base to work from. Optionally, EbMaj7, AbMaj7, etc is good. My iReal Pro has EbMaj7, Ab7, etc (in which case the D7 played is the tritone sub for Ab7). I know it's all a choice, but I hope that someone else finds this helpful! Thanks again, this is extremely helpful, and the chord solo -- which you make look so easy -- is a fantastic stepping stone! Cheers! jz
Hi Frank, I really love you as a player and educator. I'm having trouble finding this lesson on Truefire. Specifically this tune. I am a member of truefire and need the lesson materials. Thanks so much. If anyone else knows where to find it thanks.
Hi Frank and Friends - do you have a chord melody version of this wonderful song that I could purchase/download? Love your teaching Frank. You make it possible. Thank you.
I've been working on this song recently but for some reason have difficulty with that melody over the F7.... ! My ear wants to take it somewhere else or feel the chord isnt quite right!. Probably me but it feels a bit uncomfortable. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
I like watching and studying on you tube but the language translation always blocks the fingers and the frets. UA-cam pls do something about this. Cause its fun learning. Thanks
Literally my guy I can’t follow a single thing ur doing ur just ripping through the chords without taking any time to show what they are so annoying and difficult to follow

It's a Thorell. One year lead time and price starts a $8500. It is a beautiful instrument but way out of reach for most of us.
So happy I found you. I’m already 10% better
Thank you so much 💛
"If you can sing it, you can play it." dig that, Frank ;-)

Dude i love the tone of that guitar, what is that?
I like watching and studying on you tube but the language translation always blocks the fingers and the frets. UA-cam pls do something about this. Cause its fun learning. Thanks
Frank do you use a lot of acoustic guitar versus the electric and do you recommend to do both thank you
Interested in the tab, had trouble finding it. Sorry if this message iis unwelcome.
How to find these voicings on paper? I would really help with learning this. thanks
😎
Are arch tops easier to play than acoustics holding down these kind of cords!?
Probably ,neck width is smaller
does anyone know what guitar he is using?
It's the Eastman copy of the Thorell he usually plays.
im so stupid all i get is badadada badododo great video though
This song is easier to play and sing in the key of C.
hi frank i like the first guitar chords you played ido not like the alterd chords they dont have any life in them to me they sound dead.
You’re teaching is so hard to follow slow down and explain the chords a bit more
Literally my guy I can’t follow a single thing ur doing ur just ripping through the chords without taking any time to show what they are so annoying and difficult to follow
