Back in 1969 as a very yound man I had the privilege of attending the very first Blues hockey school at the old Winterland Ice Rink off St. Charles Rock Road. The instructors were Red Berenson, Jimmy Roberts, Barclay and Bob Plager and big Noel Picard. What a mountain of a man. I was one of the highlights of my life and I've been a Blues fan ever since. I haven't lived in St. Louis for 30 years, but I still watch every game and bleed Blue!! Thanks for the memories Red!!
My friends and I would watch the Odd Couple on TV Friday nights, then get one of our moms to drive us over to Winterland for a few hours to learn to skate, and try to impress the junior high school girls in the early 70s. I stunk in both endeavors. But I so loved the Blues I thought, What else can I do? I know, I'll learn the organ and try to play like Norm Kramer, and later Ernie Hays!! First song i learned wasn't The Star Spangled Banner...it was O Canadá and When The Blues Go Marching In. And i still play today! Thanks Blues!!

I rarely miss watching (or listening to) a game either and I’ve been out of St Louis since about 1975. Thank goodness for Internet radio and cable tv
@@RustyB14Amen! Me too!! You can live anywhere today and follow your favorite Blues and Cardinales teams. Although back in the day you could hear the 50k red hot watts of KMOX radio in STL, and pick up the broadcasts of our teams in any of 40 states at night. Listening to Jack Buck in baseball and Dan Kelly in hockey, we were indeed a spoiled bunch in St. Louis.
I can still hear the great Dan Kelly shout, “RED BERENSON HAS TIED THE RECORD!!!!!” when the Red Baron potted his 6 goals versus Philly.
Congratulations to Mr. Berenson on his induction into The Blues Hall of Fame. A Blues legend in every sense of the word.
Man, how awesome, and what a humble guy. Much love for a True, Forever Blue. When I was 6(ish), my mother dated one of three Plager brothers and we got game tickets, sometimes pucks & old sticks…been a fan ever since.

This video brought a tear to my eye and a smile to face. So many wonderful memories of the Red Baron and the early years of the Blues. Red epitomizes the character and class of those original Blues and why we loved them so.
I loved watching Red. Great player and a classy guy. Well deserved for the Blues Hall of Fame.
@steveking9357 I too was at the first Blues camp at Winterland. My mother taught me to skate there in ~1967 . I was a goalie and played for Valley Hockey my first couple of years and then the MO Delta organization started and I played for them until I aged out. I also played for Aston Jr B team. My best friends growing up were my teammates that came from all over St Louis. I am 62 now and have fond memories of Red at Blues games, Noel Picard speaking at our banquets, and the Plagers too. When I saw the playing card of Red I instantly had the memory of the smell of the gum that used to come in the card packages. Wow. I also had memories of my father. They may be the few and best memories of him. He loved that I loved the game and we had Blues season tickets because of him. My father was traveling a lot for his work and was quite emotionally absent/unavailable to me my entire life. He is gone now and it is bitter sweet watching these Blues videos.
When in grade school my mom felt it necessary to come up to school and pull me out for the day to tell me my hero, Red Berenson, had been traded. A few years later we moved to West County and discovered the Berenson family had just moved in the previous month! His oldest daughter was my age and I got know them well. Joy is as much a quality person as Red and together they raised an amazing family! Humble and unpretentious. When they improved their home, expanding kitchen and living room including moving fireplace, Red did the work himself, except Joy hand-made and baked the terracotta tiles for the kitchen. They never took fancy vacations. It was always 6-8 weeks in the wilderness of the northern Rockies camping, paddling, fishing and hunting with the Plagers and other teammates. Great that he is in the Blues HoF! But how about the HHoF in Toronto? First Star of the expansion era and one of the greatest college coaches of all time. Why not?
Lol, it was my Mom too after she picked me up from school and told me about Red being traded. I was so upset! Unger turned out to be a good player too though.

Did Ed Van Impe have a job the night after the Red Baron just used him every which way, on that unforgettable night in Philly? The tragedy was that the game wasn't televised that night, and there isn't any video of Red's 6 goals.
Even weirder was that the Flyers coach did not pull Favell after RB scored something like the fastest four goals in NHL history. Did Parent refuse to go in? I could see that.

The Red Baron's six goals in one game in Philly in the late 60's. There was no TV that night back to STL, so we are left with the iconic Dan Kelly's calls on KMOX radio.
