Mohan Rakesh is credited to be an influential story writer of nayi kahani. Kamleshwar, Rajendra Yadav, Mannu Bhandari, Rajendra singh bedi and many others were also from the same genere.
Nayi kahani was really an interesting chapter in Indian literature which brought simple ordinary personalities resembling any ordinary person, family and group in the center of theme. The society which was getting crafted in cities had different perspectives and different set of characteristics. Urban people were trying to adjust their lifestyle, emotions and exploring their own shadows in emerging and converging plots of life. This was beautifully portrayed in many stories and novels by these veterans.
