Love the story Joe. White door is a smart idea. Every derby should think about doing it. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
@@modelbuildingcorner thank you, you too!
Cool video Joe, love the Tonka trucks, lots of childhood memories associated with them!
@@JethrosGarage-op4bo absolutely! There's a couple I fondly remember and will probably find and restore.

I did not know about the white door. That makes perfect sense. Very Cool old tonka truck. Your channel is taking off my friend. That is really cool to see😀👍✌
@@themediocremodeler-zm7ny thank you so much!
Great story - can't go wrong with a Tonka LOL. In the 1970s - When I was a kid, me and my 2 brothers, and my cousins next door, found that if you pry the tabs up on the bodies you could remove it from the chassis. We had outgrown the Tonkas we had, but the chassis were great for sitting on and racing down a steep hill, which had a 90 degree left bend at the bottom. The goal was go down the hill as fast as you could and make that turn LOL It wan't easy but we had many hours of fun doing that for weeks.
They sure hold up well. We've all probably put a 1000 miles on a dump truck in our lives lol!
Great story and video Joe!!! Thats cool! Back in the 90's I used to work in a shop where we powder coated tons of things; car parts, airboat metal works and cages, even race car chassis. Hot,dirty work, but always good times! Where I actually met my future (now) wife. Thank for sharing!!! I love your stories! Have a great Labor Day holiday Brother! And yes, this community is very amazing!!
Thanks Chris, have a great weekend my friend!
Nice
Thank you!
Super interesting, always something new to learn, appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge! Nice reminder about the USAAC, need to go check that out, I want to try to get in on it this year
Glad you enjoyed it! Absolutely jump in on the USACC if you can!
@@BigSkyModelWorkshop Didn't realize there was a specific facebook group for it, so once I get approved to enter I should be good to go 👍
Really cool rebuild Joe.
My nephews boy just turned 1. I was out looking for a Tonka truck and man was I surprised at the price of the dump truck. Good lord. I ended up with a Cat truck a size smaller than the older style metal ones. Still cool.
Anyway, hope your getting some time at the bench.
@cardzscaledreams3917 thanks Pat! It's cheaper to buy one at a yard sale and restore it anymore, plus it'll be all metal. Definitely getting bench time in! Have a great rest of the day!
@BigSkyModelWorkshop Thanks buddy. Def going to keep an eye out for Tonkas now ✌️
@cardzscaledreams3917 people practically give them away at yard sales.
@@BigSkyModelWorkshop Wow, crazy.
@cardzscaledreams3917 I must have 6 dump trucks. The old pickups are getting hard to come by, junkers are as much as buying a couple kits, and there's no detail, that's one reason why I came back into modeling.
