Your inclusion of the Canadian spelling of favo(u)rite warmed my cold heart (it's currently January in Saskatchewan, freezing here!), thanks neighbor!!!
All of the shots of Gord in the silver jacket and grey feathered cap come from his last show with the Hip. He discovered he had an incurable brain tumour and decided to put on a series of cross country concerts. 11+ million people tuned in to say goodbye on his last show. His tumour was already affecting his ability to remember words and speak, so he had a prompter below him to help him remember his own words. He knew he was gonna die, so he did something generous for everyone else. Canada is sad today.
Andy Lord. Great post. Do you remember when he was keeping notes written all over his palms? He was determined to address anything and everything. He made me consistently proud. RIP!
Not all Americans were confused by this title. My college roommate was a huge fan of The Hip and turned me on to their music. She was from Virginia and I, Alabama. I do have to admit that I don’t know anyone else that knows their music, even here in my corner of California. It’s sad. We all lost an amazing artist today, but Canada, you sincerely lost a legend. :( Thanks for letting us bask in his genius. RIP Gord
1 38 years old 2 small down bring down 3 new Orleans is sinking 4 courage 5 blow at high dough 6 highway girl 7 ahead by a century 8 bobcaygeon 9 i'm a werewolf baby 10 little bones the tragically hip is my favourite band
jsjaodf fklaadsf 2 years later and they have a new fan in Australia. I gave up listening to the radio years ago- ‘alternative’ stations were playing too much bloody rap and hip hop- so I had heard of these guys but not listened to much of their music. I’m almost 52, married 27 years with 2 now- adult sons and my 22 year old is listening to The Stooges, Hendrix and Pup (Canadian I believe) and I’m listening to TTH, Jake Bugg and Fever Ray. Music makes life better. I’m so glad there’s so much of it to choose from.
Anyone outside of Canada needs to understand: This band was our soul, one musical group, a country's soul. Words can't say more than that. They were Canada, we were them, they were treasures.
I'll miss him so much. Of every famous death in the last few years this one has affected me the most. His lyrics spoke to us on an emotional level and his activism has created a large impact on Canadians everywhere. RIP
It's always sad when we lose a legend, but nothing has ever hit me as hard as losing Gord. I've been listening to the Tragically Hip my whole life, and my dad's been a die hard fan since the very beginning. I remember being little and jamming to Road Apples on car rides, and throughout my whole life being jealous every time my dad ventured to Canada to see the Hip. Or memories of Saturday mornings spend cleaning the house with the Hip blasting in the background. I knew Gord was sick, and I knew this would come eventually, but at the same time I couldn't imagine a world without him in it. I may not have known him personally, but I knew him through his music. And it's hard knowing that he's gone. It hurts. Thank you for everything, Gord. We love you, and we miss you ❤️
I remember waiting for my dad to pick me up at work one night. I was listening to the radio and Tragically Hip's "Scared" came on. It gave me goosebumps and I just decided to just sing along to it while staring out the window with personal thoughts roaming in my head. Just a natural reaction. People came in and out that staff room thinking what on earth is this guy doing. Trying to get my attention but I just carried on singing looking out the window. RIP Gord. Gone but never forgotten.
Not normally bothered by the deaths of celebrities and rockstars. But I’m struggling to come to grips with the passing of Gord Downy. I don’t know many people who don’t have a string of significant memories thanks to Gord and The Tragically Hip. RIP Gord.
Thanks for this list. You guys, and I mean this sincerely, seem to have a knack for making lists involving recent events like this without them ever seeming cheap or exploitative. It wasn't overly sentimental, just a look back and a band a lot of us love and are thinking about right now. Well done (even IF I would have put Locked In The Trunk of a Car on the actual list :D).
this list is good...I think that there could have been a top 50 and it would have been not enough. Rest In Peace Gord...thank you from all of us everywhere
As someone who grew up on the border and plays guitar,my dad practically forced me to listen. They are my all time favorite band. Best Canadian band of all time. You really can’t compare them to anything.
It’s sad to see how many Americans don’t know who the hip are :( give them a listen please, and trust me you’ll thank me. We miss you already Gord, hope you’re having a great time up there man hope to cross paths in the future. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mr Grape Butter i seen the hip thrice in michigan and swear even in grand rapids it was all Canadians. You guys filled The venues before Americans could get tix!!
R.I.P. Gord... he pulled off a whole national tour after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis. If that's not the spirit of Rock n Roll, I don't know what is!
Vapour Trails, Vaccination Scar, Wheat Kings, Machine, 38 Years Old, So Hard Done By, 700 Foot Ceiling, Small Town Bringdown, omg omg omg the list goes on and on
Message to Americans and all other people. I'm sorry if I sound like an asshole, but please don't be ignorant about The Tragically Hip. They're an icon of Canada, and they're an inspiration to all of us. I had the opportunity to see their last concert in Kingston live. It was truly amazing. REST IN PEACE GORD. ✌️ hell of an inspiration to all of us as a country.
as an American and one who lives right on the border in Buffalo NY I can't believe how badly our radio stations ignore the Hip. I don't recall where I was introduced to the Hip but I was an instant fan and have been for many years. Gords lyrics don't always make sense to me but I know he always had a message in them and the band is simply awesome. Much respect and RIP Gord.
My personal list 1.nautical disaster 2.50 mission cap 3.bobcaygeon 4.wheat kings 5.locked in the trunk of a car 6.38 years old 7.blow at high dough 8.fiddlers green 9.courage 10.my music at work
If there's an afterlife I hope Gord and John Dunsworth (Mr. Lahey) are having a few 'drinky poos', talking about all things Canadian. R.I.P. Boys, today the 'shit winds were definitively a blow'en'.
American yes, Confused no, stumbled... not even close. Gord and the rest of the band were amazing musicians that happened to be from Canada. Not amazing Canadians that happened to be musicians. Learn the difference.
Lucky enough to experience the hip countless time and they are still my favorite. I named my daughter Cordelia partially after their song. It’s one of my favorites and still means a lot to me. Now she can listen to them, passing their music down to the next generation.
As an American who loves music. I will sadly admit I dont know who they are. But I have been schooled now of who and how they sound. Sounds like a mix of REM and Midnight Oil. Rest in Peace Gourd. By the way I do enjoy some Canadian artists. Now I will absorb another. They sound very interesting.
Kevin Brown interesting comparison to REM and Midnight Oil. The Hip are the best band never to make it big outside of Canada. If you don't get a greatest hits by them go for Road Apples.
Dude, buy their catalogue and get ready for a ride of your life. I also suggest youtubing their 99 woodstock concert and their 2000 fillmore auditorium show.
If anything, start with fully completely, and transition into one of their weirder albums if you like that. Personally, I find World Container to be their best, but In Violet Light is amazing too.
They were a phenomenal group to experience live, so I would agree with sherpajones in recommending the 99 woodstock and 2000 filmore shows for viewing. Outside of that, find their discog on wikipedia, and just enjoy the shit outta some of the best music you haven't heard yet!
It's fascinating how that works... in Canada they could sell out multiple nights at huge arenas yet somehow they never made it across the border. Anyway, yeah Fully Completely's probably the album to get but really you can't go wrong.
Man Who Walks Among The Stars you are so loved by all of Canada and you are very missed. Thank you for being part of the soundtrack of our lives. Love you Gordie ❤️😥🇨🇦
Oh hot air balloon, Your ropes drag in the ground, In the light of the moon, Leaving without a sound...From thin and wicked prairie winds come in, It’s warm and it’s safe here and almost heartening, Here in a time and place not lost on our imagination... Gord, Thanks for a lifetime of music that means so much to so many people, thanks for showing a love so unfiltered and pure toward life and doing the right thing always. Rest In Peace
Fireworks If there's a goal that everyone remembers, It was back in ol' 72 We all squeezed the stick and we all pulled the trigger And all I remember is sitting beside you You said you didn't give a fuck about hockey And I never saw someone say that before You held my hand and we walked home the long way You were loosening my grip on Bobby Orr Isn't it amazing anything's accomplished When the little sensation gets in your way Not one ambition whisperin' over your shoulder Isn't it amazing you can do anything We hung out together every single moment 'Cause that's what we though married people do Complete with the grip of artificial chaos And believing in the country of me and you Crisis of faith and crisis in the Kremlin And yea we'd heard all of that before It's wintertime, the house is solitude with options And loosening the grip on a fake cold war Isn't it amazing what you can accomplish When you don't let the nation get in your way No ambition whisperin' over your shoulder Isn't it amazing you can do anything Next to your comrades in the national fitness program Caught in some eternal flexed arm hang Droppin' to the mat in a fit of laughter Showed no patience, tolerance or restraint Fireworks exploding in the distance Temporary towers soar Fireworks emulating heaven Til there are no stars anymore Fireworks aiming straight at heaven Temporary towers soar Til there are no stars shining up in heaven Til there are no stars anymore Isn't it amazing what you can accomplish When the little sensation gets in your way No ambition whisperin' over your shoulder Oh isn't it amazing what you can accomplish, eh This one thing probably never goes away I think this one thing is always supposed to stay Oh this one thing doesn't have to go away
Hey WatchMojo! Thank you. You've made this Canuck very happy in a time of loss. Nice to see The Hip reached you lovely people south of the border. Excellent list too!
Even though i'm young, the Tragically Hip held a great place in my heart. I was thinking one day, "Gord Downie is a one in a million kind, he also has family and friends like Dallis Green, They will miss him very much...", RIP Gord, you were only 53. My condolences. I bet the sky was dull and hypothetical, you will always be apart of me and Canada, Thank you The Tragically Hip and Gord Dowine. #RIPGord.
I wish The Hip had had a greater presence world wide. I think their music would resonate with many who haven't had the chance to listen to their extensive catalogue. Rest in peace Gord, you are, and always will be, a Canadian icon and hero.
Problem was the Hip sang about everything Canadian and unfortunately that doesn't resonate with people outside of Canada so they never really reached their international fame the same way Rush and Neil Young were able to do but they are and will always be Canada's little hidden gem.
SonicKoolaid The hip made it big singing about Canada, but I'd like to think that some of their songs are just poetry in motion. They aren't Canadian by any means other than that Gord belts them out. I'm talking songs like Leave and In a world Possessed by the human mind.
Being from Buffalo meant I had the extreme privilege of knowing and loving the Hip. 38 years old has to be one of the most haunting and sad songs ever. Miss you Gord💓
1. Wild Mountain Honey 2. Thugs 3. Membership 4. Sherpa 5. Last Night I Dreamed You Didn't Love Me 6. The Dire Wolf 7. Bring it All Back 8. When The Weight Comes Down 9. You're Everywhere 10. Killing Time Honourable Mentions: Hot Mic, Pigeon Camera, Goodnight Attawapiskat, The Depression Suite
Thank you to The Tragically Hip for all that you brought to Canadian music heritage. You'll be remembered forever among the greats ♡ thank you Gird for all that you worked to achieve in your life, and all the love you spread. Thank you.
Shout out to my math teacher who immigrated from Canada. He introduced my math class to The Tragically Hip when he used Three Pistols as the intro and Twist My Arm as the outro to his online videos. Those are still my favorite two songs by them.
How about a Top 30! Chronologically because how do you pick an order.... "Blow at High Dough" "New Orleans Is Sinking" "Boots or Hearts" "38 Years Old" "Trickle Down" "Little Bones" "Three Pistols" "Twist My Arm" "Locked in the Trunk of a Car" "Fifty Mission Cap" "At the Hundredth Meridian" "Looking for a Place to Happen" "Fully Completely" Grace, Too" "Greasy Jungle" "Nautical Disaster" "So Hard Done By" "Scared" "Ahead by a Century" "Gift Shop" "700 Ft. Ceiling" "Poets" "Bobcaygeon" "My Music at Work" "In View" "Yer Not the Ocean" "Love Is a First" "At Transformation" "Streets Ahead"
Love The Hip. Rest In Piece Gordo. Best frontman ever, best band ever. Fiddlers Green, Long Time Running, Scared, Grace Too, Nautical Disaster, Little Bones, Hundreth Meridian, Courage, Ahead By A Century, Don't Wake Daddy.
RIP Gord, what hooked me to your music started with the Poets on Phantom Power. In no particular order, my top 10+ are.. Poets, Bobcaygeon, Nautical Disaster, Locked in a Trunk of a Car, Can't Be Nashville Every Night, music @ work, Gus the Polar Bear, Fiddlers Green, Long Time Running, New Orleans Is Sinking, Blow at High Dough, wheat Kings and Highway girl, Pigeon Camera. I'm not Canadian-born, but my Auntie had a camp on Wolfe Island and needed to take the ferry from Kingston to get there. I lived in FL for the past 8 years, and always recommended people to listen to them.
I'm neither Canadian or American, but Australian. By pure chance, I found the clip of Little Bones as covered by an un-named garage band. I had heard of the Tragically Hip but had no idea about their music. I tracked down Little Bones on Spotify then went on a fully fledged journey into their back catalogue. What a discovery! Whilst obviously preferring some songs over others (Poets/Three Pistols/ Bobcaygeon/Grace Too to name a few) I was blown away by the amazing musicianship of the band as a whole and Gord's incredible lyricism which at times seems totally at odds with the musical direction but somehow works on so many levels. The word "juxtaposition" doesn't seem out of place in many of the songs. Another observation based on my love of REM is the similarity in style of performance both physical and vocal between Gord and Michael Stipe. I've no doubt the obvious connection would be documented somewhere - can anyone comment?
Though they were known around the world, the Hip never had massive international fame. And that makes them even more special to Canadians. We gave you so many great musical acts, but we kept the Hip for ourselves. They sang about our culture, our history, our home. When Gord died, we all lost a brother. We miss you, Gord.
God and the Hip are Canada. We lost a chunk of our collective soul as a nation when we lost Gord. My life and my country would be less shinny, less kick ass and so much less HIP without him. If you don't know the Hip, I feel for you but the music is eternal ... find them, rock out and be transformed. And if you can find the live version of Highway Girl, listen to it and not laugh yourself silly at the dark humour of the spoken story held within ... know that you are dead inside and go buy a sense of humour. I love you Gord. I'll miss you forever but my heart will soar every time I hear one of your songs.
After i saw this, and a few other Canadian related videos i had to check. and watch mojo is actually Canadian based. Glad to see a large channel bringing a little bit of Canada to the rest of the world In Gord we trust
RIP Gord, A true Canadian Icon and legend. Personally love the list but The Darkest One should be on here. Great tune and the most Canadian it comes to a music video! Which features the Trailer Park Boys and Don Cherry!
America just to help you out when Gord the lead singer was diagnosed with terminal cancer he did what all good bands do planned one last tour and the last show was in his hometown of Kingston. It was broadcast and watched by 12 million Canadians in a country of 35 million that is impressive.
Chris Atkinson 1/3 of the country was watching and that was just TVs ... imagine the people at the parties I assume it was closer to half the country watching
amazing... they played in my hometown (of about 10,000 people) for two nights, and it was the first time the band had played in the same town, two nights in a row, in years. what they brought was phenomenal. it was such an amazing weekend having them come here and the music was unbelievable. I never had a chance to meet them but the committee that ran the concerts said that these guys were so nice and so humble. great Canadian band.
So sad. Rip Gord. You are every cottage vacation, every bush party, every summer I can think of. Part of so many good memories from a kid to an adult. You will be sorely missed.
before you post negative shit, excuse the expression, the hip were an amazing band and always will be, you have to really listen to the lyrics to understand this great band
It’s not the lyrics it’s the cadence and the way the band plays with the sounds. Don’t get me wrong the lyrics are amazing and clearly poetic, but it’s the synergy.
Rest in peace Gord. Your music and words mean so much to Canada and music fans around the world. Thank you.
WatchMojo.com I love you and your videos.
WatchMojo.com thanks a ton for this, up here in Canada
i was going to comment this for a video lol i love this band
This is great, but did they even have fans outside of Canada and border towns at the US/Canada border?
This is wicked, thanks! RIP Gord, Canada lost huge part of it today! 🇨🇦😭🤘
I'm not Canadian. Born and raised in Texas. The Hip were my favo(u)rite band. RIP Gord.
Texans too (hubs and I) and we saw The Hip at least 13X or so in TX and went to Canada for their last tour. HIP, HIP, HIP.
Your inclusion of the Canadian spelling of favo(u)rite warmed my cold heart (it's currently January in Saskatchewan, freezing here!), thanks neighbor!!!
My favourite song is bobcaygeon and it’s not because I live 10 minutes away from bobcaygeon
lol! I realize I already replied! LOL!
RIP!
In 2017 Canada had 36.54 million people.
Way to go out like a damn super hero. He gave us way more then we deserved.
I went to the last show, it was emotional
A cruel fate for a national treasure
What a special band
Not all Americans were confused by this title. My college roommate was a huge fan of The Hip and turned me on to their music. She was from Virginia and I, Alabama. If you aren't from Canada you just don't know.. Canada's best kept secret
jsjaodf fklaadsf well it's a secret kept too well. because I live here and never knew, shame
I'm from Maine, USA, and have loved the hip for a couple decades. Though, a lot of America views us as Canadian anyways, so there's that.
jsjaodf fklaadsf 2 years later and they have a new fan in Australia. I gave up listening to the radio years ago- ‘alternative’ stations were playing too much bloody rap and hip hop- so I had heard of these guys but not listened to much of their music. From Buffalo, grew up on the hip and have always been one of my favorites.
I live in SW Ohio and we had a radio station (97X) that played a lot of the Tragically Hip
Anyone outside of Canada needs to understand: This band was our soul, one musical group, a country's soul. Words can't say more than that. They were Canada, we were them, they were treasures.
They are literally the worst band I have ever heard
I'll miss him so much. Of every famous death in the last few years this one has affected me the most. His lyrics spoke to us on an emotional level and his activism has created a large impact on Canadians everywhere. RIP
It's always sad when we lose a legend, but nothing has ever hit me as hard as losing Gord. Not normally bothered by the deaths of celebrities and rockstars. But I’m struggling to come to grips with the passing of Gord Downy. I don’t know many people who don’t have a string of significant memories thanks to Gord and The Tragically Hip. RIP Gord.
Try living in Kingston right now :( Most flags were half mast today and it was just plain somber out.
an hour west didnt have much pep in its step either
absolutely, I've never cried over anybody famous dying. I've been a mess since hearing of this! Goes to show just how much they meant to us!
Chris Dallaire I cried as well, I have a feeling a lot of Canadians shed a tear yesterday.
I agreed, he held a special place in this world and we all knew he was going to pass on, but we didn't hope it. Oh and it's Downie.
Kevin Sullivan thank you. This is why we do what we do, how we do it.
Love how all the Americans are confused as to who the Tragically Hip are. RIP Gord
I’m not American and I didn’t know them... a world exists outside Canada mate
I agree! The Hip is Canadas little gem that no one knows about and I am okay with that!
Kris Cipywnyk Why?
Brayden Fletcher You could say they're the last of the unplucked gems..
Kris Cipywnyk not this American! The Hip rule!
RIP Gord Downie
The Depression Suite will always be one of my favorite songs. Such brilliant songwriting.
(Side note: I'm American and love this band)
Ron Shalom Not a lot of Americans that know the hip should be more though.
I love the depression suite
this list is good...I think that there could have been a top 50 and it would have been not enough. Rest In Peace Gord...thank you from all of us everywhere
shaneguide 100 of my top 10 songs of all time are by the hip, because each place is always a ten way tie.
So many great songs. 100th Meridian. Three Pistols. Long Time Coming. Yer Not the Ocean. Pigeon Camera. Cordelia.
No Hundredth Meridian? Unacceptable.
Was gonna say that...
Yep, that was another great song
That and 38 years old should’ve at least been honourable mentions
Hard to do a top 10 with a band that has a top 20.
As someone who grew up on the border and plays guitar,my dad practically forced me to listen. They are my all time favorite band. Best Canadian band of all time. You really can’t compare them to anything.
A list like this is why we need a WatchMojo Canada.
You guys filled
The venues before Americans could get tix!!
I am in Ohio just south of Dayton and I knew all about the Tragically Hip because of 97X, the future of rock and roll
R.I.P. Gord... he pulled off a whole national tour after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis. If that's not the spirit of Rock n Roll, I don't know what is!
rest peacefully Gord you are missed by all Canadians
@Rick O'Shea go back in your hole and listen to gucci gang
No Giftshop??? Ahh well - could've been a top 20 list and still wouldn't be long enough.
I was expecting the "honorable mentions" to be 95% of the video. This could have easily been a top 20 or top 100.
I dont think the hip has a bad song
Man, this could have been a Top 30 and still not done justice. RIP Gord. RIP Hip.
I just became a fan
sergh8605 enjoys as us Canadians have for many many years
That makes me smile :)
after watching TPB ? :)
Vapour Trails, Vaccination Scar, Wheat Kings, Machine, 38 Years Old, So Hard Done By, 700 Foot Ceiling, Small Town Bringdown, omg omg omg the list goes on and on
Thank you Mojo,
from Vancouver Island..
Actually really surprise to see this but am so glad they made this.
Fellow Islander here. Cheers!

if you're Canadian and don't like at least 1 hip song than you're not Canadian
Savagedock amen to that
Savagedock I read the statistic that the "National Celebration" concert was watched by 1 in 4 Canadians. 25% of our population, pretty impressive
No. If you're Canadian and haven't heard at least one song then you're not Canadian. We've been force fed their shit music for almost 3 decades now.
Matt Sammon why are you even watching this video then?
Just to be the voice of reason here. My shitting on them is proportional to the undeserved credit they get.
I Don't Care Which Trag Song Is Number One....But I Do Want To Thank You Mojo...I want To Thank You For Honouring A True iconic Band. Thank you.
My personal list
1.nautical disaster

It's been a rough go for Canadian culture, that's for sure. We will miss both of those national treasures dearly...
@@mistercr0wbar400 im still crying about them😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥
Long Time Running is my absolute favorite but there are many many very close behind...
The Hip on Mojo!!! It’s a special day.
Confused Americans, let me just say you've stumbled onto something amazing
RIP Gord
American yes, Confused no, stumbled... not even close. Gord and the rest of the band were amazing musicians that happened to be from Canada. Not amazing Canadians that happened to be musicians. Learn the difference.
Lots of love from Canada you will forever be remembered
Boii the band is Canadian
Yes! Was just listening to scared, and bobcaygeon is amazing. So good
sean mccarthy scared is definitely one of my favorites
I’m from bobcaygeon
Yay! I was surprised to see this on your channel but happy you did it!
Sharon Brown Watchmojo is a Canadian channel. I'd be more surprised if they didn't do anything
CGossRunnn they didn't do anything when the diagnosis was given out, so it's easy to think they didn't care.
It's a tragedy that Gord is gone, but he'll be remembered for all his kick ass music. long live Gord Downie!
Lucky enough to experience the hip countless time and they are still my favorite. I named my daughter Cordelia partially after their song. It’s one of my favorites and still means a lot to me. Now she can listen to them, passing their music down to the next generation.
Thank you so much WatchMojo for the tribute
As an American who loves music. I will sadly admit I dont know who they are. But I have been schooled now of who and how they sound. Sounds like a mix of REM and Midnight Oil. Rest in Peace Gourd. By the way I do enjoy some Canadian artists. Now I will absorb another. They sound very interesting.

It's fascinating how that works... in Canada they could sell out multiple nights at huge arenas yet somehow they never made it across the border. Anyway, yeah Fully Completely's probably the album to get but really you can't go wrong.
Thank you for doing this, it was about time. I hope all 15 million of your viewers see this.
Gord,
Thanks for a lifetime of music that means so much to so many people, thanks for showing a love so unfiltered and pure toward life and doing the right thing always. Rest In Peace
Fireworks
If there's a goal that everyone remembers,
It was back in ol' 72
We all squeezed the stick and we all pulled the trigger
And all I remember is sitting beside you
You said you didn't give a fuck about hockey
And I never saw someone say that before
You held my hand and we walked home the long way
You were loosening my grip on Bobby Orr
Isn't it amazing anything's accomplished
When the little sensation gets in your way
Not one ambition whisperin' over your shoulder
Isn't it amazing you can do anything
We hung out together every single moment
'Cause that's what we though married people do
Complete with the grip of artificial chaos
And believing in the country of me and you
Crisis of faith and crisis in the Kremlin
And yea we'd heard all of that before
It's wintertime, the house is solitude with options
And loosening the grip on a fake cold war
Isn't it amazing what you can accomplish
When you don't let the nation get in your way
No ambition whisperin' over your shoulder
Isn't it amazing you can do anything
Next to your comrades in the national fitness program
Caught in some eternal flexed arm hang
Droppin' to the mat in a fit of laughter
Showed no patience, tolerance or restraint
Fireworks exploding in the distance
Temporary towers soar
Fireworks emulating heaven
Til there are no stars anymore
Fireworks aiming straight at heaven
Temporary towers soar
Til there are no stars shining up in heaven
Til there are no stars anymore
Isn't it amazing what you can accomplish
When the little sensation gets in your way
No ambition whisperin' over your shoulder
Oh isn't it amazing what you can accomplish, eh
This one thing probably never goes away
I think this one thing is always supposed to stay
Oh this one thing doesn't have to go away
Hey WatchMojo!
Thank you. You've made this Canuck very happy in a time of loss. Nice to see The Hip reached you lovely people south of the border. Excellent list too!
I can't stop crying..my daughter made a cloth photo of gord..last concert..peace signl lookin straight at you...loove it..thank you gord!
Thank you for including Nautical Disaster! So hauntingly beautiful. Miss ya Gord.
Thank WatchMojo, good list RIP Gord a true Canadian hero.
Beautiful music. Love the HIP. Thank you Mr Downie.
Phantom power came out when I was in high school, Gord Downie's passing really is an end of an era. I love that his lyrics aren't literal and obvious.
Being from Buffalo meant I had the extreme privilege of knowing and loving the Hip. 38 years old has to be one of the most haunting and sad songs ever. Miss you Gord💓
awesome I'm from Buffalo. not a lot of Americans now this band.

Thank you for making this @watchmojo I forgot about it and I just discovered it again ❤
Was lucky enough to see the Hip several times in London. An eternal regret was that I didnt get to see them in Canada.
RIP Gord.
First Mr.Lahey now Gord stay strong Canada. Rest of the world dont mess with us for a bit, not sure how we would take it.
2024 and i still come back to this.
Wow, about time! This is awesome!
Shout out to my math teacher who immigrated from Canada. He introduced my math class to The Tragically Hip when he used Three Pistols as the intro and Twist My Arm as the outro to his online videos. Those are still my favorite two songs by them.
R.I.P Gord Downie...thank you for leaving a lasting legacy with your 🎶 & inspiration! The north will always remember you 🇨🇦🎤🎶
From NW Ohio, seen the Hip 10 times....never have I ever seen any band better live.
Never heard of this band before but I'm glad I have 😊
Love that y'all did this, Gord is a legend. Huge impact on my life, love that man
How about a Top 30!
I cried for days after he died just listening to bobcageon and courage
Arguably the most Canadian band ever. Hope others will follow in their footsteps. Thanks for the music, The Hip, and RIP Gord.
Video should just be a 30:00 clip of all their songs.
Rip G.D
I'm a 16 year old boy from Chicago and the tragically hip is my favorite band
God and the Hip are Canada. We lost a chunk of our collective soul as a nation when we lost Gord. My life and my country would be less shinny, less kick ass and so much less HIP without him. If you don't know the Hip, I feel for you but the music is eternal ... find them, rock out and be transformed. And if you can find the live version of Highway Girl, listen to it and not laugh yourself silly at the dark humour of the spoken story held within ... know that you are dead inside and go buy a sense of humour. I love you Gord. I'll miss you forever but my heart will soar every time I hear one of your songs.
Thanks for everything Gord, much love from Sudbury Ontario Canada🇨🇦
My favorite album by them will always be Day for Night, just brilliant 🎶🖤
the whole album is a fever dream of perfection - all over the place with the beats and chords but still told a coherent story about life in general.
Rip gord downie a true hero to the indigenous and Canadian people meegwatch walk with the stars
My favorite song has always been twist my arm. That guitar riff always gets me
My favourite is definitely 50 mission cap
Mine is little bones or hundredth meridian
I have always had a soft spot for "Scared"
My local Bar was giving away 2.50 highballs and a Buck and a half for a beer yesterday and playing only Tragically Hip... it was pretty awesome
thanks @WatchMojo.com our hearts are heavy and broken today 💔💔😢😢
Australian here I found The Hip last concert on Netflix loved the songs 🎵
After i saw this, and a few other Canadian related videos i had to check. and watch mojo is actually Canadian based. Glad to see a large channel bringing a little bit of Canada to the rest of the world
In Gord we trust
Amazing singer
Even better person
Thank you for being such a great public role model and a great Canadian, lots of love Gord.
Was hard to find a tv that was not tuned to it
Not to mention the viewing party's so probably more than 12m
Mojo flexing music culture with this one!
Edit: how did you miss “The Lonely End of the Rink” and “Fireworks”?!?!! Those are classics.
Rink
As a 20 year old Buffalo girl, I was raised on the hip and will always love them💙💛
thank you so much for making this video
amazing... they played in my hometown (of about 10,000 people) for two nights, and it was the first time the band had played in the same town, two nights in a row, in years. what they brought was phenomenal. it was such an amazing weekend having them come here and the music was unbelievable.
RIP Gord, such an amazing artist and a true icon in what it means to be Canadian
