Such a wonderful discussion. Recently moved back to harrisburg pa area. Started a small shorin ryu program in York pa. My father was a student of Eizo Shimabukuro while stationed in okinawa circa 70' -73'. I have been to the dojo back in 83'. Hanshi was very chill and accommodating. While he reminisced with my father he asked me to do kata and kobudo. It was intimidating for a 13year old blue belt 😅. But he never judged, just asked a few questions and offered a few suggestions. One of my most memories dojo visits.
