HOLME UPON SPALDING MOOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: - At Moor End the road is long and straight towards The Land of Nod as it used to be one of the airbases' runways
Loved it! Sorry you missed mention of Blackburn’s use of the airfield to test fly their Buccaneers. I was an aircraft inspector back then in 1968 before emigrating to Canada.
Just come across your video, lived in holme for 19 years and i still didn't recognise some of the streets you were on lol. Holme Hall (sue ryder) closed down in 2018 however I'm sure they've blocked access so you probably wouldn't have been able to get to the chapel either way. Its a shame such a lovely building is just stood empty now
Well done and thanks Andy, I, (and I suspect most people reading this), have only ever travelled through Holme on my way to visit the East Coast holiday resorts. I will try to take in the church on the hill next time, hopefully the weather will be better than what you had to contend with! The Gunroom Pub used to be the ‘halfway house’ stop-off point for coach trips to the seaside when I was a kid
thanks Andy for another great in-depth review of this beautiful county may i be so bold as to suggest that when you have covered all of the east riding areas that you intend to cover that you look at the bomber command county north Lincolnshire love all your work and look forward to your next post.
I've already covered all of North Lincolnshire! All 56! I've also done all of West Lindsey (128) and North East Lincolnshire (21). They're all up and findable, they're in their own playlists :D
It really is, it's so blummin big though. The 1 hour 40-odd walk didn't cover all of it. Then you have Spalding Moor... I just wish the weather had've been good because from the church it'd have been a right view!
Was looking forward to watching this Andy, very informative. Holme Hall front entrance opposite Beacon View on A614. Currently empty. Where you were is something to do with the farm I think. Back entrance near the track up to Church Hill. Hare and Hounds closed too. It's definitely Hasholme too! Also used to be Hasholme Heavy Horses in that area..
Ah so, no L in Hasholme then? Must admit this has had almost 1k views now and only one person has said that. Yes its a farm entrance I was at. My route passed a big entrance a few yards back with a big sign saying "Farm Property - Private"
When you look on a map it's spelt Hasholme, so why someone thought not..who knows. Glad you enjoyed our village, maybe next time the sun will shine up Church Hill! Try a walk up..mini workout..(for me anyway)
Land of Nod made me curious so had a look on Google Earth and 50 miles due SW takes you to Edale in the Peak District, Certainly picturesque enough to be the Garden of Eden lol

Yeah it does seem to be a place that only ever gets "driven through". Really unfairly though. It's a lovely place!

That was a very interesting one, thanks. Looks like a nice place to live, especially with the bakery!

Thank you for this. I grew up in the area and often used to meet friends in HOSM. I can't believe I've never heard about the log boat
Thanks Catherine! 😁

Our daughter was baptised in the Holme Hall chapel in 2017...
Hi Andy I find your reports very interesting & informative. Is Wistow (west of Selby) on your tour list ?
Certainly is. Won't be long as I get thete either because I'm over halfway with Selby now
I wonder 💭 if any Moors lived their before 1491 ?
