    Thank you, Trevor! This channel has been pure joy and a great escape from the current worldwide crisis for me. I've been enjoying exploring solo roleplaying on my own now too. Here's my little piece of advice:
    THE WORST KEPT SECRET OF RANDOM TABLES
    You don't have to roll on them. If something catches your eye or seems totally appropriate for the moment, just use it!
    Stay safe and healthy!

    Perilous Wilds is an excellent tool for DMs. I know one of my DMs used it to help come up with NPCs, or random delves on the fly. Great tool, with multiple uses. Can recommend.

    I think this is like the best supplement ever for any system. Not only is the form factor approachable and appealing, along with a goofy cover art, but the book is informational dense to the max. You can basically run an entire solo campaign with just this. To your point of designs dungeons well, it also creates monsters and wonders and just makes a world come alive. the dungeon world mechanics for some of the skill things are easily adaptable or bolted on to any other system even on the fly. I just love it, a solo world in a tiny little book. For some reason that's just incredibly appealing.

    Only just discovered your channel and just wanted to congratulate you! Really entertaining and accessible and shows what a great laugh roleplaying can be. Mind you, it's cost me a few quid now I've had to buy all the Mythic emulator stuff and the Perilous Wilds supplement!

    Thank you for the supplement videos, especially this one. I purchased Perilous Wilds because of your show and have also grabbed a copy of Dungeon World. I can get a lot out of these two books when I go on holiday with family. Mmmm, holidays, remember those?! Are you planning on doing a vid on GM's Miscellany range? Any vids on firing up the imagination after a daily battering from the broken system we live under is always welcome.

    Would you consider making a video at some point exploring the idea of enemy creation and how to approach the design aspect of an NPC so that it's not unbalanced for an encounter? Unless I am mistaken, the core rule book for Savage Worlds doesn't really use a threat level or challenge difficulty for NPCs like other games such as D&D.

    • @MeMyselfandDieRPG
      @MeMyselfandDieRPG  4 роки тому +35

      Short answer, I don’t believe in balanced encounters - only encounters that make sense within the context of the situation. A character has to deal with whatever trouble they stumble across, remembering of course that “dealing” with it could mean running away to find another way around the obstacle.

    Well done, sir! Thanks so much for this supplemental series. Very helpful and more specifically actionable for us fans of MMaD to bring to our games. Mythic and PW have been on my radar for awhile but I haven’t pulled the trigger. Will definitely do so now.The dungeon creating pieces of PW you presented remind me a lot of IS: Delve. I don’t think you will experience much of a learning curve for the oracle aspects of Ironsworn, even if the underlying mechanics are quite different than the mashup of SW/Mythic/PW/GM Miscellany and other random tables you used for season one. I would advise you to consider the 4,3,3,2,2 challenging stat array from IS: Lodestar if Arne is going to be a lone PC as was Simon. This will make him more of a Wild Card, to borrow SW terminology, and help prevent a cascading failure spiral. Looking forward to more supplemental episodes and of course, to season two!

    Great overview of The Perilous Wilds. Thank you! Going to have a closer look at it for my own solo adventures. Always looking for a good dungeon generator and outside of the Solo Adventurers toolkit for 5e, this looks like a a good option. Have you tried Mythic’s Location Crafter? That seems to take a similar approach to PW.

    My thought was No there isn't a monster in the other side of the door AND it's a safe room out of the way from dungeon patrols you could use for rest, or there is treasure inside

    Sorry for the double post but as the vid is about the wilds can you explain the weather roll on a 1d20? Is it as simple as 1-5 storm, 6-10 raining, 11-15 breeze, 16-20 sunny day? Are you referring to a table somewhere? I see some weather systems that affect an arrows chances of hitting! Bit much for me. I like the way that you have "forecast" the weather.

    • @MeMyselfandDieRPG
      @MeMyselfandDieRPG  4 роки тому +7

      I literally roll the d20, and the higher the number, the better the weather. That’s it! There are of course detailed charts in other supplements, but for quick and dirty weather determination, this works just fine.

    • @InhabitantOfOddworld
      @InhabitantOfOddworld Рік тому

      Some other supplements (I'm reminded of Scarlet Heroes) use weather tables that include seasons, so if you have a time of year in mind, rolling the d20 will give you more specific options relevant to that season
      (After all, you've only got numbers 1-20, so seasonality means they can assign numbers to snow in winter, and reassign the same numbers to a heatwave in summer, for example)

    Do you happen to know any good supplements for modern/urban fantasy games? It seems all the good generator materials are geared toward fantasy or scifi, rarely modern.

    • @NN-ye2bv
      @NN-ye2bv 4 роки тому +1

      I'm also interested in this.

    • @MeMyselfandDieRPG
      @MeMyselfandDieRPG  4 роки тому +7

      You’re right, most generators are geared toward fantasy. However, the Mythic random event tables can easily be interpreted for any setting, even modern ones. For example, if you’re playing a modern spy game, let’s say, and you roll “Introduce an NPC, Develop Magic”, that could simply mean a) the NPC is a literal stage magician, b) the NPC has an almost magical charismatic ability to convince others to follow him, or c) anything else that comes to mind. The key is to not take the tables too literally.

    • @tdba316
      @tdba316 4 роки тому

      @@MeMyselfandDieRPG Oh I do want the fantasy! What I'm talking about is the lack of materials that cater to a more modern kind of fantasy - like Dresden Files, World of Darkness (e.g. Vampire the Masquerade), Call of Cthulhu. I'm thinking about something like The Perilous Wilds, GM Miscellany etc but with a modern flavour, like having bars, universities, computers, the internet, social media and the like. I loved that time when Sam pulled out the bloody knife and a mummified badger (lol) - and I would loveeee to have book(s) of random tables that will give me a similar kind of surprise, but with modern stuff. Sure I can translate "tavern" to "pubs" and "knife" to "gun", but it does interfere with your immersion when playing, and classic fantasy materials can't really cover really modern concepts like TV and the internet.

    Hoping to use Perilous Wilds in my upcoming Solo run through the Kingmaker Adventure path, since it already starts off largely as a hex crawl, lots of unclaimed Hexes in the Stolen Lands! How long do you find it takes for you to roll up a quick random dungeon, like with the Temple?

    1-3 = Yes/No
    4-6 = Yes but/No but
