The tool spam trick has since been fixed. Your ATV does have lights on it which you can toggle on, and the lights stay on when you dismount. (Useful if you park inside a cave with the lights on, but moving the ATV uses fuel, don't run out.) You can harvest animals without the butcher table (equip axe) but you get greatly reduced results. I believe you will not get any hides or livers, not sure about fats, and you get a greatly reduced amount of meat.
By sheer coincidence, I've been getting back into this game very recently after not having played it since last Christmas Eve! I never planned it that way, it's just that a few other new games came along during the Christmas period and The Infected was pushed back, priority-wise. I think it's a good idea to take a break from games, every now and then, as playing them constantly can become quite jaded. Coming back to them after a couple of months can be quite invigorating and give a new lease of life. The fact that there's a major update than includes a new map and a more comprehensive UI when crafting, (I could never remember some of the recipes and was always constantly having to look them up), makes the game a little more convenient to play. The ATV is a nice touch, although having it as an initial task is going to mean missing out of all that traipsing around on foot that I know lots of people love about this game(!) The terrain is interesting, of what I saw of it, at least. Not quite as flat as the last one. In fact, it seems quite mountainous, if the map is anything to go by. I look forward to any other changes there are.
I love subsistence. The good thing about that game is there is no psychological horror like The Forest and not mindless zombies like this game. The Foes are the elements and the AI humans.

Glad to see you back for this update - very hyped for this series!! The new map looks great! Love the coastline and the terrain changes. Looks like it makes having a vehicle even more valuable. It'll be interesting to see if the loot in the abandoned vehicles and villages still re-spawns, and how hard/easy it is to get tech. Idk that you'll be able to marathon the technology gathering anymore.
New update looks good, but I worry about my old save on the old map, is it forever unplayable once the new update comes out? I see the dev never did put the other builds on steam, just "current" and "beta". Would be cool to be able to go back to the old map and old saves whenever we want.
From what I remember from playing this, this looks like a massive update......cant wait to get my hands on this because the 'benchmark' for me now is No One Survived and the other one has been lost in the 'Mist' of time. I take it you have to start all over because the game has wiped? What you need is just a pure Base Building Sim!!! no game just building bases!
Part of the update is that you can now kill animals and field butcher them. You get less resources than if you used the butcher table, but it’s still more than one frog at a time!
new things are coming in this game within the next few days new foundations new patterns new colors even triangled foundations and ceilings so you can now make round towers even a new building wheel dev said this week but will wait till next week lol, can not wait for your next season starting with the new things in this game.
@William Mullaney well we learned to win the horde nights lol so dev wants us to loose sooo dev took them away then he did one mini boos roamer with cronies then it "bugged out" but people learned to beat them so dev make 3 mew monsters and 3 new mini bosses and 3 more roaming hordes lol do you see the pattern lol now we cannot even build our bases without causing a horde to attack so we get even less done cause of the noise and light meters lol and they are around in the world in places you drive too on the atv and even if you walk they are gonna be there too soo yeah a pattern of traps to set us up to fail. the dev hates the players..so id advice eveyone to turn off base damage caused by swarms or turn damage down or just turn them off lol and leave town monsters on, because we cant win and when we do the dev will just change it up again.
Just discovered the game, and I am doing a bit of early game cheating, to learn the mechanics of the game, before I purchase it. Unfortunately the content creator that brought me to the game, while they had interesting game play, did not take the time to demonstrate what they were doing. Some aspects of this game, are quite intuitive, like the noise and light level. I mean come on, have you never watched, "The Walking Dead"? LMAO. First time watching, and new subscriber. I enjoyed the content.
why is there a spots for 2 names on the land claim post? i know its not for any coop action because the dev said it will never be a coop game so why the second slot for a second name?
you didnt show us the land claim post or even explain it ..i say that cause you were able to set down you stuff and so you already put it down or disabled the land claim pole(you cant put stuff down before you place the land claim pole) just to let others know who may not the land claim shows you the radius of your claim and also shows your noise and light levels and you can name your claim...other than that i do not know much about it...my apologies you did explain it just out of order..its important to know though that you need to place it before you can set anything down so maybe keep details like that in mind lol

Ya what a stupid idea for eating food could not just make it simple, like i said todays developers think it's a fun game when everything is more of a chore to do and less on the real game play whatever! So, i strongly disagree with you as this is a good food mechanics in fact 7 days to die made everything simple like it should be and the game is more on fight the creature's way better game. Sorry just don't and will never think making game hard to learn and even harder to do in crafting is ever a good idea.
