Been playing Sub since i got the game, and the more I see him played the better he seems. It's just about knowing what to use to not scale hard
His damage isn't the problem at all it's his kit everything he does is unsafe or average
Yeah I’ve been using sub since the game came out and he’s really not that bad, especially after his latest updates. His startup and recovery frames could use a tiny bit of work, but the fact that almost every string can cancel into a slide or ice Klone makes for some great high/low mixups and easy distancing.

@@rianepperson5094 all punishable btw slide is full combo punish and clone can be armored and your definitely not gonna win the game off overhead into slide mix up when most characters have over head lows into combos lol
I played smoke in season 1 and after getting the DA subzero at the beginning of season 2 I decided to give him a go. Upon realising how hard subzero is to play against smarter players I went to go back to Smoke just to find out that after playing subzero for 30 mins I completely forgot all my mix ups with smoke and had to get good with subzero. Winning with a low tier character is satisfying 😊

I usually main Smoke/Scorpion or Smoke/Cyrax but I’ve been switching it up a lot lately with Sub-Zero/Sonya which has been super fun. Definitely don’t sleep on the Sonya cameo when playing Sub because her move set really compliments a lot of Sub’s moves

I played Subby in S1 and my main problem was that in order to get the big sub damage people only showed him with overused kameos like Sareena and Cyrax.
S2 i play Nitara/Goro and i love it
Season 2 I played sub but I’m done with kl just been doing kasual with nitara tremor. Can do 50 to 70 percent combos
FINALLY these kind of videos return 😂 they’re so funny
His B2 can be special canceled into his slide for a 50/50 but if you want to get even more complex, Scorpion’s Forward assist is an overhead so you have a OH Low and OH decision. Aside from that, 21 is great at spacing opponents away, his air combos are great, air dive kick is great for extending combos, and both of his 34 strings are relatively safe on block.
Unless you have a Kameo with a overhead it’s not a 50/50

My favorite Sub combo starts mid screen, ends in the corner, and does 47% damage. It requires Sonya, and 2 bars.

@@egg7447 back 2, back 2, air 2+1 Sonya, air 2+1 cancels to enhanced DB4 (should be in corner now), air 2+1 cancels to enhanced DB4 again, air 2+1 to ice clone, wait a tick, air 2+1 to regular DB4. Pretty easy combo. If you don’t make it to corner, just end with slide after first enhanced DB4. Let me know what you think :)

How do you do the 40 and 50% kombos you talk about in the begining?
Tournament player here, I have used most characters and I don't think Sub is good like your saying. He only gets that kind of damage with Kameos that don't make his Overhead or other moves safe like Sareena.
Most top tiers are shitting out 40% meterless.
He gets low damage with Lao, Goro, and Stryker which do make overhead safe but it doesn't make his:
12, 21, 122, 212, 34, B34, 44, F123 gaps safe.
Nothing but Stryker grenades can make his poke into Clone safe. It's punishable by 90% of the cast on reaction and I have several videos on this. Offline his overhead is absolutely reactable at 24 frames startup.
Every Top player has agreed with this.
When 15+ characters have safe launching mix with every tool in the book and amazing dirt to boot. I don't think it's wild to ask for Subs:
Clone to have +1.5 second of on screen activity and 5% damage buff so he can use a useful Kameo.
I'd also like B2 to be -7 or -8 on block. Again he has a plethora of flaws still after these changes.
He is a very high risk for low reward character every competitive player knows you have to save meter with Sub, he doesn't have top tier chip, no on block pressure to build meter like top half of cast. He needs that meter to break/last breath vs characters that delete 50% off every touch into 15% forced chip with resets, looping HTB setups that break armor and none of their tools in their gameplan are punishable unlike almost everything Sub does. If you do the one gapless string he has F12 which is -7 basically forcing Sub to block a 50/50 into plus frames into another 50/50 if he guesses right.
It's not that Sub is unviable it's that his risk vs reward is very much not in his favor compared to Johnny, Ashrah, Baraka, Kenshi, Geras, Sindel who all ignore his Clone and toolset.
Most can go through clone meterlessly and I have videos up on my YT channel.
Kung Lao, Tanya, Ashrah(flash Parry) and Reptile all combo off Armor.
Every character can punish Divekick on reaction with UpBlock/backdash wiff punish.
Everything I'm talking about is Offline at tournaments that have the top players in the world. No way Sub makes Top 8 in a major because his risk vs reward is not viable to risk $1000 and travel expenses.
Can he win small online tournaments yes he won 1 of them. That's Online where his B2 isn't reactable but stacked offline tournaments with top 40 ranked players know the matchup and can punish 80% of everything he does.
Understand I started out with 7 other characters and recently picked him up and he is definitely not like the top half of the roster.
If bottom tier in MK1 means nothing them why have A+ and A tier why not put them all in the same tier? Because there is a difference between Sub Zero and S+ characters.
I want him to have a better gameplan and more options than runaway competitively like Clone pressure. Understand with my changes 80% of what he has is still punishable and his clone lasting one more second is still punishable on reaction. Nothing compared to Kenshi sandwich or Ashrah full screen lockdown or Johnny's low risk pressure where you get a poke if you guess wrong or 40% into 70% with hype he takes poke damage or 10% while you lose a bar and Johnny is back at it putting you in high risk situations for low reward.

Teaching the Little Lady, who is a newbie, to play the game by using Sub Zero. Now the Quarter-Circle-Queen is spamming me and jamming me in the corner. Also Sub-Zero became a gateway drug for Sindel and Tanya and General Shao as they are quarter circle dominant! Also the Ice Clones quarter circle is slightly less "accessible" than for the freezes. MK Tom Brady says that was an early NERF.

at first i felt like sub zeros moves were slow but they all synergize so well you end up not really noticing how slow they are once you get into a combo :p out of all the characters i played in tower he was the one i got the highest score with >.< and i've always kind of hated sub zero

The first part funny ash I like subzero gameplay but he has a point it’s slow and the only way u can get away with it is throw 90% of the next opponent recovery. And then if they get used to knowing wassup I say jump towards them and punch then tick damage hit then grab.
His only problem is he needs a better mid they need to un nerf the scaling on deadly vapors and ice clone should be on screen for at least 0.8 more seconds other than that he just needs brain power to play hes not bad

I think most players complain because Sub doesn't have his standard gameplan(like clone isn't that much of a setup and ex clone(now the multiple version) is kinda shit) and also isn't stupid in online play as he was in MK11.
please, any sub-zero main, for the love of god, forget about EX deathly vapors, do NOT use it. 30% for one bar is atrocious. Sareena is my go-to(boo Sareena main, yeah, I know), 36% meterless with one kameo bar is still not that tasty but it's way better, with second bar it turns up to 41. use EX slide, dive kick, whatever, but NOT deathly vapors. it cuts the scaling tremendously
also: you can convert b2 into a nasty mixup if blocked by combining it with the slide. ex with goro turns it into full launcher, but you have to do the slide immediately after the first swing hits, and on high ping it's basically a 50/50 for both you and your opponent
also also: third spinal tap cuts the scaling as well

Sub zero players are the easiest to deal with from my experience. Its usually just combo, ice clone bait, slow overhead, easy slide to avoid, unsafe buttons and bad neutral. I kinda feel bad but i don't because he's a bad guy now. I liked him when he was a good guy.

I should be able to freeze you multiple times with my ice clone, especially if I didn’t start with EX
I feel like the ice clone registration is weirdly strict but Baraka can use the force and grab me when he shouldn’t with his EX blades.
I think subzero with sektor is a top tier character
I did find it weird how people complained about sub zero dmg but tanya actually does less dmg than him. Sub is my main til I get gold then im using tanya cuz nobody use her. Then peacemaker.

Smoke is ridiculous 😒 but sub zero is actually beast tho. Very broken mix up.. also you can cancel the two over Head with a special or kameo... also if you used Sonya kameo his dmg scaling slightly higher..
