Great information, and very glad you added in the part about doing it legitimately. It truly is important to follow the proper local laws and regulations when doing anything like this.
Great question @throughtheguides37. Each state has different statues in place in regards to underwater salvage work. Primarily, the three basics are, proper certifications, workman's compensation (as a bare minimum), and general liability coverage. Even the private business may set other madidates as well, such as training schedules, continuing education requirements, and possibly even Coast Guard Captain License (depending on the waterway you are conducting the salvage). It is all based on your geographical location. And we haven't even talked about what the insurance companies require. Each broker will have different requirements for different types of coverage.
Hello @michaelgallager, I have retired as a volunteer Firefighter and EMT. However, our Public Safety and Salvage Team still operate under private contracts for the same department and multiple departments in our area for any and all water related calls including missing persons, recoveries, and water rescue callouts. Other than those callouts, the answer is no.

Glad you liked the video @SummersideDiver.
What license and insurance do you carry for vessel salvage?
