Thank you for the information Jim, it was quite comprehensive and clearly presented. If I understand correctly, you did not mention the fact that you are classified as a new client (liable for co-payments) if you have been assessed and approved for a HCP from September 2024 including current clients who are re-assessed for a level upgrade eg to move from level 2 to 3 when one's needs increase. The example of the $50 per week that you gave is quite a low-level need. I worked out that it could cost close to $90 per week if one required showers, two hours of meal prep, two hours of cleaning and one hour of social support per week as well as Lawn mowing services.
I see that public hospital beds will have increased burden while Aged Care recipients are waiting for the upgrade. Respite bed placements are already have long waits with delayed discharges and not everyone has a family to help out. The wait for ongoing care means beds will be delayed for elective surgery. I believe this is a way for the Federal Government to offload AND BLAME, the delays onto the State Governments. I guess we will just have to wait and see, but it certainly would put another layer of worry onto our aging population.
It's designed for the wealthy . Independent assesors ? 15,000 lifetime cap . 17.5 % copay . Support staff wages up so copay up . It’s interesting to hear Jim’s statistics on how much the Government is spending per person on aged care. And don’t forget, most of us have been accruing superannuation for many years. The aim of this was always to replace the pension and enable us to have a degree of independence at this stage of our lives. Not everyone has super -but it’s important to realise that many of us have.
@@joanseymour4382 currently, many who are on full pensions with no super, obviously this will change down the track but not for all. The new HSP will negatively affect these people because they will not be able to afford the co-payments. No information has been provided regarding the hardship clause.
@joanseymour4382 There's a vast difference in how much funding is sitting in recipients packages and being spent due to package providers whom shouldn't have been given registration. I'm happy for you being 1 of the wealthy ones but how can you get more " independence" from this ? I suspect you played a part in this SAH system implementation JOAN SEYMOUR ?

Trying to get good home care is very hard, the further you live from a city. The subs are a pure waste of money here in Australia! It's just keeping AUKUS happy with some fanciful idea . Funny part was France was originally given the contract. Good old Albo .
I used to have home help only make my bed every fortnight I had to have bed stripped every thing folded ready to put on bed, what I needed most was lawn mowing council does not do such, so I cancelled it. Result is 2 foot high grass out the back I have a rural strip of land at the back of me so I now have all the long vegetation from its seeds.
$80 ph x 2 is/will be by far the lowest managed agency hourly rate - the workers get about half . Even self-managed agency workers are heading that way very fast as COL increases. I'm not sure they are worth the headaches and are mostly NDIS workers .
Maybe you should include a few caucasians in your add to show that this applies to Aussies who've paid taxes for the last 60 years and finding it impossible to get any help at all let alone access to hospitals.
I'm 77 and don't get any assistance for anything and it costs me a lot more than $50 a week to have people help with the garden and cleaning ... and to see to the needs of my sister in a nursing home. So $50 or even $100 a week from a full pension seems ok to me. I guess it's all relevant to what you are accustomed to.
If you are already on level 4 , and now the introduction of 8 levels(sus) , will you still need to be independently reassessed as its an extremely stressful event ? Whose training these experienced competent assessors? This is very very vague so please elaborate Jim PLEASE ?
Remind me again...which one is the "Consumer "
The Govt...or the flogged out pensioner who contributed 60yrs of taxation?

For what exactly?

These changes should also apply to the ndis as well
Thanks for the up to date info sounds daunting, what happens to case managers we currently pay for.😢
Where can I get these publications pls.
It's already a Rip Off. $4000- per year contribution just for Level 1 cleaning under My Aged Care.
$80 ph x 2 is/will be by far the lowest managed agency hourly rate - the workers get about half . Even self-managed agency workers are heading that way very fast as COL increases. I'm not sure they are worth the headaches and are mostly NDIS workers .
I think the $15,000 cap is only on high end modifications, the med and low assessed annually.
If you sre approved for level 3 but not assigned it as yet will you still on the current system when July 1 comes around?
I think it will depend on when you were assessed. I believe it is from a date in September 2024 where you will be classified as a new recipient?
More bureaucracy, huh?
Nearly one in five Australians is employed by the government.
Have you spoken to any of them ?

Great. That’s really clear, and certainly helps to reduce anxiety for many of us.
Rubbish. It's given a lot of of us anxiety. The wolf in sheeps clothing. Would you be a MAGA voter perhaps ?

The trap is the independent assessors !
