Restoration Ecology can also be done in your own backyard - literally! Lawns are horrible for local ecologies and are frequently needing way more water than native grasses to stay green. It’s worth looking up what native flora are in your area and replacing that lawn with something better for your biome.
4:54 Elaborating on that point: the screen inspired by butterfly wings is called a plasmonic color display. It is a type of electronic display that uses plasmonic nanostructures (tiny metallic structures that interact with light in a way that can be used to control its color) to create color. They are more energy-efficient because they do not require a backlight (which also reduces eye strain), and also more natural-looking because they reflect light in the same way that objects in the real world do.
I had applied for an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Grant program last year and had compared the loss of species caused by the continued introductions of non-native and invasive plant species by the nursery industry to toppling over a Jenga tower. I don't know if others had made this comparison before I had or if I was the first, but it is great to see that this analogy I had thought of on my own is being used by others. I am trying to go to graduate school to research if the aggregate of the thousands of non-native plant species causes comparable ecological damages as the few regulated noxious weeds. At this time, there are no regulations to stop the continued introductions of novel plant species. A study was conducted and found that 60% of the invasive plants species were purposefully introduced and of that quantity, 60% were introduced by the nursery trade. I can't find a professor or funding to conduct my research. I'm still trying my best.
Random request, but can you guys do a bloopers video for biology? I have a feeling the behind the scenes for Sammy's acting would be absolutely hilarious!
Crash Course never fails to teach people of all ages all sorts of stuff. I don't think anyone or any other channel stands a chance of teaching quality lessons for all!
There is mo point in stopping the next mass extinction if we aren’t wiling to change our destructive habits. Unfortunately many especially in the US see the act of changing their ways as an infringement of freedom thus further accelerating the problem
I wrote a research paper on Keystone Species (my focus was on wolves and bees) for a college class a couple years ago and I compared them to Jenga blocks, too. I love that others see them that way as well!
The best two things we could do right now. Is quit it with the single use plastics And quit it with the car focused infrastructure And we could do it TOMORROW if we wanted to, well, corporations could. You and I can't do shit.
Gender is a human construct, not biological, so not really relevant for a biology series. An episode on the evolution of sex would be fascinating though
Best music budget EVER!

Make a lawn that you can find a frog in. Good for the world and also, you get to look at a frog

That wobbly table bit made me laugh so hard!

I'm loving the biology crash course!! 😄

I love your sense of humor!
I love the human essence here. Keep it up!
Thank you for introducing so many prominent figures in the course.
Woot for wildlife corridors!
Woot!

'great' beatboxing Dr. Sammy
The insect investigator

Excellent! Keep it up.
This is such a good analogy
Thank you!
wobbly table almost dropped the microscope.
Crash table biology.
thank you so much for leaving that a cappella intro, aahhahha
WOBBLY TABLE 😂😂😂
I'm on the wolves side
😌
Is @crash course able to do personal finances ?
Great stuff! But are you brave enough to do ...genders?
