Looked like an amazing days riding, used to climb on Dartmoor and often parked up in Haytor, used to love that van that was there “hound of the basket meals” great video btw
7 hours on a bike is not a failure; it's an accomplishment! I've been working on long rides on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. I'm up to 62 miles in just under 5 hours. IF the weather holds, I'm headed that way on Monday to attempt 70 to 75 miles. My goal is 100+ miles in one day. The parkway is constructed through the Appalachian Mountains. Climbs are 4 to 6 percent max. Some of the road is along a ridge and some is curvy climbs and descents. Elevation varies from 2000 to 3300+ feet above sea level. My minimum sustained speed is 5 mph and my max sustained is 48 mph. I start at Reid's Gap and head south. My last turn around spot was just past Irish Creek Valley. I have some short vids on my channel of parts of some of these rides. I don't have a GoPro so I use a hand held camera. These long rides have made me stronger on my shorter rides. My last two short rides were the best times/avg mph in 3 years. Your channel is one of the more inspirational channel due to the just plain fun of riding that you showcase. Keep up the good work!
Greetings from a fellow Virginian! My property backs up to the Blue Ridge Parkway in Roanoke where the climbs can get up to 12%. Right now several miles by my house are closed, so traffic free rides are the norm!
New sub from Dave's channel. After watching one of Dave's videos I did a 100k ride on my "heavy" 26" wheel mountain bike at the weekend, my longest ride ever before that was 65k. I was hating life part way round (about 70k), but that's part of the fun isn't it! Got to say that due to Covid I am fitter now at 50 that I have been since my teens. It's nice to watch real people who just enjoy cycling for a change. A lot of UA-cam channels either shill products constantly or favour production over the content. Can't wait until the cafes do reopen, or at least somewhere to get a sausage roll :)
Thanks so much for the sub and the kind words about the videos. Happy you like that I’ve prioritised the content, I try hard to just stick with what I’m doing and I’m not be influenced by other vloggers. Good work with getting so fit!!
Just watched the ten most influential cycling youtubers and you weren’t in the running what an absolute travesty. Surely you must be more popular than Durianrider 🤣🤣
The bathroom thing is really a limiting factor! I'm in Portland, Or so we have something called the Portland Loo and I actually built a route based around them. Haven't checked it out but I think they are the only in-service public toilets in town since the parks have closed water and toilets.
pizza and happy child is win personally! Have you thought about a GPS with better navigation? Since you seem to have minor navigation woes now and then.
Juliet Elliott now your asking! For off road big screen and cloud map so you can clearly see various trails I personally find useful, I have a state of the ARK Garmin Touring which has a very feature rich for navigation, no performance, tech. Which I’ve used in various places around the world. As you have a Wahoo anyway the Roam would seem a contender, probably worth seeing one in the flesh and seeing if that screen makes any difference or not, the Garmin 530/830 are technically better but read/watch DCRainmaker for world class geeky. But I’ve not used any, I know folks with the 530/830 but I haven’t had a play.
hi, bought back memories of the Dartmoor Demon which I did a few years back....NEVER again but I did it, got my medal and commemorative socks! Ticked off the list! Massive kudos to anyone riding round the moors....theres some savage hills!
I think 10,000 foot of climbing around Dartmoor is doable. And a very different achievement to 10,000 foot in the Alps. Haute Route is basically one climb. To do 10, 000 feet in the West Country means about 20 climbs, and then some!!! Going up, and up and up you can get into a rhythm but in the West Country up, very steep, down, very steep, up again, down makes it really hard to get a rhythm. By the time you get to the 20th climb, well what the f***, not another one. And then there is another and another. Often they don't look like much on the map but when you get to it, they are steeeep! You say you didn't finish the challenge but I liked your mate trying to bump up your count by cheating on your bike computer. When I got my first Suunto my brother took it and walked up and down the stairs in my Dad's house to see how the accumulated ascent worked! The 2002 Suunto (not a smart device) still works but the 10th battery it has had is knackered, the buttons don't all work any more and it looks as though someone has dragged it around the globe. I can't bear to throw it away! Is there a Suunto museum somewhere?
Hi Juliet. Another cracking video. Can you give us a breakdown of your clothing/kit etc? How are you getting on with your SMITH glasses? They look the bomb! Can you wear them with your MTB helmet also? Looking for some new glasses but I refuse to pay silly money for them. I know good kit costs a certain amount but I feel ripped off too much of the time. Know what I mean? Love your channel having recently found it. Why aren't you on't Telly? Deliciously watchable! Thanks for the work.
Not done Devon . I know it has a reputation, But those climbs seemed fairly well graded.. Prob on camera it makes them look easier. Prob like Shropshire a huge grind fest if you go for all the climbs in one big chunk.. 200km 10,000 feet climb Audax events are pretty tiresome so compressing them is going to be a tough cookie lol.. Nice Scenery anyway. !
Juliet, I might have missed the video where you mention what headset you use for music/podcasts on your cycles. I am considering a Bluetooth headset for my own gravel riding here in New Zealand, I would value your input. TIA
Sorry, I am late. You only fail if you do not have fun! I had fun to see that, thanks and best regards from germany, where i can not find such a nice landscape.
you have made a good decision. You missed out a few 100m of climb but instead were welcomed by your daughter saying "Mom, I missed you". That was sooooo nice and cute. So definitely good decision !!! 👍
That’s such a good route! I watched Dave ride past my old house in N’abbiot the other day and then you ate your pasty outside my mums house in Tavi today, brilliant! 3k metres climb doesn’t belong in the same sentence as the word “fail”, good work. Drink beer.
Hi Julie My home roads Cornwood and that side of moor to Princetown two bridges etc The climb from Cornwood to the moors is a bit of a drag as the road is rough and I am always on it before I warm up. Its much better than when they layed it a few years ago when it was like an off road track knocked hell out of my headset and forks coming back down it on my road bike
Brilliant well done... saw your Strava and thought “one day I’ll be able to do that sort of miles and elevation”... so even if you gave up you’re still my hero lol....
Great video, you inspire me to keep cycling. I am getting better at climbing, it hurts the top of my thighs though, just above the knee. Unfornatly I live in Kent, its hills and climbs everywhere ! I love the flat, can go fast a feel the breeze ! I suppose its no pain no gain though ?
Just curious, do you not wear gloves for most of your rides or did you just happen to not have them on for this ride? I recently started not wearing my gloves for cycling because my hands tend to get numb when i do wear them for some reason. Maybe its just me but i really just like the feel of gripping the bars better barehanded. Thoughts anyone??
Priorities! Family first! Keep working the climbs... can't wait for your Trans Pyrenees tour!!! I am holding my breath, how'd you know? (p.s. you surpassed 10,000 feet at 3050m)
nice to see you doing challenges would 300km and 3432m of climbing , with bouts of intermittent rain plenty of head wind , and a temperature of 10 degres celuis, which felt colder ,took me 10.50hrs of riding with total time of 13.04hrs , there was a stop to visit with friends on my way and a couple of stops for food and munchies ,a hard day , longest distance done this season , anyway keep trying and you can do it , just make sure the weather is on your side otherwise it becomes a ride of guts and willpower to finish, my friend thought i would not finish , add 4-5 km of gravel road which was not planned, interesting day to say the least. Anyway enjoy your videos and keep the cranks turning , plus be safe,
When you come to a reception like that, you did not fail, but actually you just earned EXACTLY the number meters of elevation you thought you lacked! How good s that! Lovely ride!
Good to see you over my side of Dartmoor! I can also definitely recommend that pasty shop in Tavistock, we use it probably more then we should!
Miss Tavi all year until we go back to visit, mainly for those pasty's.
You did not fail Julliet, you're a 🏆!
Thx, great video
Thank you
When you decide to stop, you're at the finish line. A days ride is always a success. Thanks for another fun video.
Thanks for watching
Did well! Nice to see my old home turf as well.tavi and Dartmoor
You did a fantastic job! Well done! You achieved the exact opposite of failure! Killer ride!
Mom priorities for the win.
Looked like an amazing days riding, used to climb on Dartmoor and often parked up in Haytor, used to love that van that was there “hound of the basket meals” great video btw
love the motorhead cushion

Cheers!
Pizza wins everytime, you didnt fail that was still a great effort well done you 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕
Fantastically entertaining 😘
What handlebar bag is that? DId a scan of the old vids but couldn't find it but it looks very cool!
Someone else asked and Juliet replied "it's made by Outershell, I ordered it from a UK webstore"
I would have given up a ride for pizza so your in good company
Watching others play video games on youtube is like me watching others ride there bikes... so theres that!
Damn, I honestly hadn't thought of it that way... LOL!
A nie bike ride might be a "failure" but all in all it sounds like a win! :) Nice day out.
Just ride (which you did) don’t worry about the ‘Stat’s” 👍👍
Over 2500 m climbed is a good day on the bike.👍 Everything stops for pizza.🍕🍕🍕🍕
I did 32 miles on my Fat Bike last week, and had to surgically remove my shorts.
Yikes 😂
00:05
i paused
you look so gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hard to fell bad about 7 hours of riding.
Whoops sorry bike the bag
Gloomy overcast day, dressed in dark black clothing, really, many cyclists do this, can’t understand it !!
See when you have had a beer or two do you send abusive emails to your boss as well
Now I want pizza too.
I always want pizza
When you get a chance tri the Devon C2C.
It’s been on my list for ages, really want to do it this summer
first
=(

Sounds like you live in a fantastic place for cycling!
6% Max gradient... that sounds like a dream wonderland :D
That sounds like a brilliant ride mate! Continued good luck with that.
Greetings from a fellow Virginian! My property backs up to the Blue Ridge Parkway in Roanoke where the climbs can get up to 12%. Right now several miles by my house are closed, so traffic free rides are the norm!
I have an aunt that lives just outside Ashville off the BRP. The climbs there are no joke; I drove from Asheville to her house; it was 45min uphill.
Some days are for dragging yourself across imaginary finish lines, others are for bailing early and eating pizza. Both are good days
so true
Morn... Um, Evening!
ROFL! "I'll talk to these people. They're listening."
New sub from Dave's channel. After watching one of Dave's videos I did a 100k ride on my "heavy" 26" wheel mountain bike at the weekend, my longest ride ever before that was 65k. Well there’s no accounting for taste, eh? 😜
hardly moving = whizzing along one handed talking to camera :O
love the energy you give out in each of your videos. contagious!
You certainly haven't failed your mummy duties👍
Beautiful ride and what a nice ending!
Good on you. Epic day.
Yes it was!
Epic ride Juliet and you didn’t fail.
Motorhead cushion just made you even more cool than I already thought you were.
The bathroom thing is really a limiting factor! I'm in Portland, Or so we have something called the Portland Loo and I actually built a route based around them. Haven't checked it out but I think they are the only in-service public toilets in town since the parks have closed water and toilets.
10000ft or 3048 m ... lady Juliet ... does not forget your channel has international audience :-)
pizza and happy child is win personally!
Have you thought about a GPS with better navigation? Since you seem to have minor navigation woes now and then.
It is!
Yes, I think about that a lot. Not getting on well with this one at all. Are there any you would recommend?
Juliet Elliott now your asking!

A challenge that everyone can do - all around the world? I live in the Netherlands :D
(Nice ride / video though ;))
Haha, true that!
Bostin Juliet what a ride epic 🚴♀️🚴♀️🚴♀️👍👍👍👍
I wouldn’t say it’s a fail it was a reckie of a route so fair Play Juliet 😎 woop woop 🙌
Great stuff and wow those roadways are gorgeous. Real Lion Witch Wardrobe stuff. Lucky you. Dude you did over 100. WTF? Oh and thanks.
Beautiful countryside nice ride!!

Did my first ever gravel ride today along Chesterfield canal and I love it. Especially on my cheap cheap bike 🚲
Amazing countryside and scenery. Unexpected sheep and horse encounters. While it wasn’t your challenge elevation, it looked like a cool route.

Beautiful scenery - doing 7 hours of riding is a 'win' in my books - enjoy the pizza & family & cats - well deserved :)
So you didn't hit your target. That was still some serious climbing numbers all in one day! You're a cycling machine :)
Qué bien te sienta el Ciclismo pro Gallo🌈🌍🌄☀️💪
Hi Julie My home roads Cornwood and that side of moor to Princetown two bridges etc The climb from Cornwood to the moors is a bit of a drag as the road is rough and I am always on it before I warm up. "He's watching someone *play video games* on Twitch!!!"
That was the most boomer thing to say hahahaha
@Jay Bonner ok 👍
Brilliant well done... saw your Strava and thought “one day I’ll be able to do that sort of miles and elevation”... so even if you gave up you’re still my hero lol....
thank you! Work your way up to it gradually and you'll be fine
What’s you’re experience with those bone conducting earbud things you use?
Good choice, 👍
Nice work Juliet! It doesn’t matter have beer!
Which smith sunglasses are you wearing in this video? They are sick
4:58 awesome shot! I thought where is the handlebar 😅 and it comes back in sync with the Music. Nice little detail!
Great little video, & it doesn’t really matter that you didn’t complete the altitude total. I love trying to identify all the locations.
No failure there. 7 hours on the bike! You earned that pizza !!
Great ride Juliet , never easy doing that on your own, food stops are the only thing that keeps me going on the long rides.
3300m is not a big deal, even you can make easily this elevation in the UK any day
The best pasty shop in Tavistock Juliette👍
Well done on avoiding the ample dung pie on the bridge at 3:33!
that's really pretty countryside, where is it?
It took me ages to figure out that Oat Root wasn't your sponsor 🤣
So nice to come along as always. Thanks--
Cheers Richard, glad you enjoyed it
Finish line = Pizza! Success in my book!
Long ride in the sun, where's the the fail?
That’s so amazing defo not a fail majorly impressive! Well done 😀
I was rooting hard for the quit. That was a win of a fail.
Don't worry. I did 254k and 4200 meters and I was completely hanging 😂.
Well done, that’s amazing!
You didnt fail you gave it a go so its not callled failing
Great video, you inspire me to keep cycling.
I am getting better at climbing, it hurts the top of my thighs though, just above the knee. Unfornatly I live in Kent, its hills and climbs everywhere !
I love the flat, can go fast a feel the breeze !
I suppose its no pain no gain though ?
Great to see you over our side our Dartmoor in Tavy👍
That looks like a nice part of the world to go for a bike ride👍😊
That road bike is Beautiful
There are no wrong routes on Dartmoor!!!😂👍
Just curious, do you not wear gloves for most of your rides or did you just happen to not have them on for this ride? I recently started not wearing my gloves for cycling because my hands tend to get numb when i do wear them for some reason. Maybe its just me but i really just like the feel of gripping the bars better barehanded. Thoughts anyone??
I just wear them in winter to keep my hands warm or when racing in case I crash
What brand of glasses are those?
Beautiful dartmoor, looked like a good day :)
What headphones is that? Thanks
When Pizza calls.....who cares about climbing anyway.
Well exactly
Defo not a fail ! Dartmoor way is a nightmare to navigate , we ended up on roads not fit for road bikes so well done.
Some of the bits I did were so steep it was only just possible to ride up, and I’d like to think I’m reasonably strong!
I tried this challenge failed at 8456feet I just couldn't manage anymore it's a tough thing to do
Good effort! It was so tough
Only respect here for you
Priorities! Family first! Keep working the climbs... can't wait for your Trans Pyrenees tour!!! I am holding my breath, how'd you know?
(p.s. you surpassed 10,000 feet at 3050m)

Mum life for the win! 😀😀😀💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 I hope you enjoyed the Pizza, good on ya Dave!
EVENING?? I need my "morning!" fix
Haha, sorry!
When you come to a reception like that, you did not fail, but actually you just earned EXACTLY the number meters of elevation you thought you lacked! How good s that!
Lovely ride!
But, Dave said PIZZA! LOL! At our house the words of weakness are "ice cream!"
