- Fan edit of scenes featuring the samurai sword maker, Hattori Hanzō. Hanzō is portrayed by Japanese actor and martial artist, Sonny Chiba, in the film Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003) directed by Quentin Tarantino.
I love this song and this movie. Thank you Emily, for introducing me to the film.
RIP Sonny Chiba. Japanese martial arts star and famous actor. Legendary performance as Hattori Hanzō from ‘Kill Bill’. One of my all time favorite movie characters.
ॐ शांति 🙏🙏
RIP :(
Yama Sultani, How and when did he die? What happened?
@@williammitchell1864 he died from complications of covid.

@@jeremylee6352 Damn, I had no idea :( I'm a fan of gaki no tsukai and I remember him appearing on the hospital batsu game. He was referencing his role in kill bill a few times.
Hattori Hanzo is cool but lets give the assistant credits. He goofs around when theyre in the kitchen but serious/almost crying looking at hanzo doing something he swore never do again.
He is played by Kenji Ohba. He also played Space Sheriff Gavan in the 80s. Both Sonny Chiba and him were also in Kage No Gundan (Shadow Warriors) in the 80s.
One of my favorite moments is hearing his assistant dropping the warm sake off screen with the first mention of Hattori Hanzo.
This before he became assasin in john wick parabellum lol
I think he's crying because of the cost of such a broken oath in old traditional Japanese society. Historically, breaking such an oath would mean Seppuku as a penalty. So the assistant might be foreseeing a more final ceremony following this one with him as Hattori Hanzo's second.
I was explaining this to someone when they said something about white is the colour of mourning in Asia, and their get up fits the moment. I was thinking more on white is the colour worn by traditional Japanese blacksmith when they're smithing a katana because its represents purity (they even fasted beforehand, forging a blade is a sacred act), and as such also the colour worn in funerals and seppuku ceremony. Thats when my brain exploded.
Consider the nonchalant way he said, without pride, the katana is his best work, but the very deep regret radiating from him about breaking his oath. The way he is seated (notice also the covered box before him, just the right size for a tanto blade), then the placement of his second, off to the side, slightly back. A loyal right-hand man, to ease his master's passing, should be ready with the other katana behind him.
A broken vow like this in Japan, usually leads to...
It didn't show what happens after the Bride left the pair. Tarantino is a master of layered understatement as he is a master at over the top scenes.
Back in the early 80s Sonny Chiba had a TV show in Japan called Kage No Gundan (Shadow Warriors). Where he played a samurai/ninja called Hattori Hanzo who was a real historical figure in ancient Japan. Over five seasons of the show he played Hattori Hanzo. Each season was a different era and his character was a different Hattori Hanzo. Tarantino was a big fan of the show and claimed that this unofficially connects the film to the TV show by having a new incarnation of Hattori Hanzo appear in the modern era.
Thank you for this ✌️
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Season 5 didn't truly exist on it's own; it was really extra episodes of Season 4 and was the same Era with the same characters.
Also, Kenji Ohba, who plays Hanzo's assistant in this film was one of the regular characters in Season 4.
@@saiga5476 I've got season 1 which is great. Would love to get my hands on the complete set
@@theeholygoalie if this were 15 years ago, I'd have helped you (though the quality wasn't great).
Alas, my source for these is long gone. :(
The lonely shepherd: a masterpiece that made a masterpiece by a genius.
"I can tell you with no ego, this is my finest sword. If on your journey, you should encounter God, God will be cut."
-Best dialogue of the movie, shows no pride or ego just purity of his soul and work.
Except it should be "god" and not "God". Hattori Hanzo said "kami" as in extremely talented human.
Masamune Shirow, a famous mangaka, is called by many "manga no kami" - a god of manga. This is the kind of god that word "kami" means.
Gives me goosebumps everytime I watch it. RIP
@@ripLunarBirdCLH thx for expl
@@ripLunarBirdCLH There is actually no true translation for kami in English. It comes from Shinto and is more analogous to “spirits” or “holy powers” but it’s a bit more complicated. A kami could be the aspect of a mountain or the power of the wind. kami certainly does not mean “extremely talented human”. Humans can become kami after death but it’s generally reserved for great emperors
@@pmc8451Yes, the meaning is more nuanced, but they’ve simplified the thought. Basically, nothing will stand in your way-no spirit, no force, no god. In essence, this sword cuts really well.
RIP Kind Sir!!! Your performance and talent will live on!!! Go’s bless.
I am completely deviststed. In just over a year covid has taken Japan's most beloved comedian and now its most celebrated action star... Just terrible. 💔
This is my favorite sequence from any tarantino film...it's the only one that sinks really deep for me...leaving so much to the imagination as to what this man must have suffered to break edge and make this sword one last time. Beautiful.
Sonny Chiba is the best actor in the film Kill Bill. Hattori Hanzō is simply legendary! The music (the lonely shepherd) makes the scene fantastic!
RIP Sonny! You shall be missed by so many.
R.I.P Sonny Chiba! Legends never die.
Being poisoned by a one eyed Daryll Hannah is no way to die...It would be most honorable to die under/on top of her, like after a one hour straight fuck, your heart finally gives up and you go to afterlife smiling.🥲
I love these scenes.
I like how on this version of Earth, there are holsters for swords on jets :)
I'd love this scene and movie! Well, anything Tarantino..... Sony Chiba is a Legend in his own right.
Except "Once upon a time in Hollywood" it'd left me wanting more! It was quite lazy to be a true Tarantino classic imo!
True
the thing about kill bill, is that it leaves so many gaps for the imagination to fill, like how hanzo never says bill's name in any of the scenes, leading you to believe he may have also taken an oath to never say his name because of how ashamed he was for what bill did with his creations. Hence the "philosophical sympathy". I saw another commentator saying that the insignia on bill's blade is the symbol of that of a oni, and the symbol on the bride's katana is what's used to ward off oni
Given the Japanese culture's reverence for honor above almost all things, the idea of making a priceless katana for the leader of a gang of unruly assassins (I wonder if Hanzo knew Bill tried to kill the pregnant Bride) would be a huge dishonor for him, both as a master sword craftsman and possible former warrior himself. A single request from an honorable warrior to right a wrong would be redemption in his eyes, and a way to break his oath without bringing, as Abdool said, the wrath of demons or oni on his life.
Bills sword itself doesnt have a hannya or oni on the blade only the saya has that. Thats something that replica sword makers did was to add the oni on the blade. For the bride's sword it has a crowned lioness head on the saya and the blade has a engraving or horimono of a shishi which is used to ward off bad spirits. Both are exceptionally beautiful swords with great aesthetics and meanings.
My God, never noticed such crucial detail. Thanks for pointing it out. Definitely one of my favorite movies, maybe this is one the reasons why.
This part of the movie is tattooed in my mind. It will never be erased.
A very powerful scene. I have always been intrigued by the character of Hattori Honzo.
May he rest in peace. Thanks for tribute edit.
"If on you journey, you should encounter God.....
God will be cut".
Such a powerful statement. I've often wondered what the true meaning is.
I think maybe that no matter what stands in your way, you will achieve what you want.
@@Justin-ue2hv You are absolutely right!!!
I heard that in this he is saying the path you go down if God you face you will not recognize him
It means nothing. He's just saying how good the katana he forged for her is, so fit for delivering death it would somehow cut God Himself down. Great line, realistically absurd.
魔來魔斬,佛來佛斬 (kill the approaching demons and even buddhas) is a saying originated from Buddhist Zen masters in the old time. It is meant to encourage Buddhist sadhana practitioners not to be distracted by anything in their path to achieve spiritual purity.
In the movie Hanzo said 神擋殺神,佛擋殺佛 (kill any deities that hinders you) is a slightly altered version of the former. It is widely use as expressing one's absolute determination to achieving their goal, be it in radical ways or else
I love this scene to the core of my heart.
That Katana is a masterpiece. Such a beautiful blade
Thank you Tarantino, Sonny Chiba, and Uma Thurman for these amazing couple of scenes in the movie, a masterpiece! I want one of those swords.
RIP to a Legend. 💐
"God will be cut"
Goosebumps!😱
Dude the dialogue is killer...a tragedy to leave it out
3:12 I can tell you with no ego I teared up at this scene
me too, I shed many tears
Goddamnit Oda, Even Mackenyu(Roronoa Zoro) dad are swordsmith. RIP Sonny Chiba
Sonny was fantastic in this flick, his interaction with Uma was priceless and hopefully was as genuine as it made me feel. Their meeting scene showed a side of each of them I saw as them being themselves ,their real personalities . RIP Sonny, I wish someone would make a Hottori Hanzo can opener, never found one the wasn't shit.
This is probably one of the greatest ever movie scenes.....and movie....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the best movies to come out in the century.......Kill Bill....
It's my favourite scenes (for MY reasons).
Thanks so much for your work.
And support.
🤗
Lets just come out and say it .... Quentin Tarantino is the "Hattori Hanzo" of movie dialogue. RIP Sonny you will for always be remembered
What a great Tarantino’s imagination and creation 🙏🖤absolutely masterpiece scene 🖤🙏
I think the first Kill Bill is Tarantino’s best film, by far... every scene is perfect...
kill bill volume 1 is full of soul, i mean you could feel every scene to your core
My favorite is the 2nd one, then the first
After knowing everything she's gone through, the emotional payoff is more satisfying then the Big action sequence in the 1st IMO
Arguably my favorite Tarantino flick of all time
Best metallurgist ever existed.
I can tell you with no ego , this is my finest sword …..absolutely amazing sentence! Think of the best sword makers best sword ever
What a powerful scene, my favourite.
Rest in Peace Sonny Chiba 1939-2021
Those swords that he makes are priceless! Except in El Paso...
There is something amazing about the background flute music, it's very calm, soothing and at the same time it tells about the years of experience of warrior holding the sword...
R.I.P. Sonny Chiba. Japanese hero.
Goosebumps every time i watch this scene. RIP
One of my favourite scenes from one of my favourite films. Love the Lonely Shepherd too.
Love this scene....it so beauty..
Man, they don't make films like they used to.. Such a cult classic 👌
RIP Sonny Chiba
I really cherish that flute music. Watching this made me want the soundtrack.
best scene in whole film.....speech at the end fabulous
Unintentionally, this video will serve as a partial memorial to his amazing legacy. RIP
And that bald guy is Kenji Ohba.
We grew up with his Uchuu Keiji Gavan in the 80s.
♥️
He was also a series regular in Sonny Chiba's Shadow Warriors season 4
Sayonara Chiba san
I can tell you with no ego, Beatrix should have been several degrees more respectful than “dōmo” when receiving that katana. The craftsmanship, coupled with the fact that Hanzō Hattori broke a vow of nearly three decades, demands a deep bow and a “Dōmo arigato gozaimasu”.
What a fantastic scene. Purhaps the best in movie history.😎😎😎😎
I loved this phrase in the movie;
Bill: " Hattori Hanzo...As one of the world's greatest swordsmen, does he still make that awful noodle?"
:))))
i like how every seat on the plane has a holder to place your samurai sword or umbrella.
The plane having holsters attached to the seats for people's katanas, is particularly hilarious.
R.I.P Sonny Chiba 22 January 1939 - 19 August 2021 Rest in Heaven 🙏
She, who wields a Hattori Hanzo sword and was trained by Pai Mei.....
Not necessarily
Uno es chino y el otro japonés
All l can say is a great Actor just the sadness in his eyes says it all
if you look real close you can see a third sword under the flight attendants arm. Not sure if its a prop just put there by the Japanese flight company or yeah, people can just bring their sword on a plane and its totally cool.
Tarantino's interpretations are epic
rest in power Sonny Chiba, many blessings to you
Rest In Peace, Sonny Chiba. My Hattori Hanzo...
These are not for sale.
I didn't say "sell me"
I said "give me".
How beautiful?!
サニー千葉は日本の誇りです⭐️スーパーアクターです✨
I love how she has the sword on the plane 🤣
All time fav and nostalgic ❤️
R.I.P Sonny Chiba
The music, is giving me chills.
Kill Bill is the movie of the century! It’s pretty complicated, the characters are fantastic. Uma is my favorite! I don’t know who could have played that role outside of it.
I really like Tarantino's movies. They are special!
меч Ханзо расчистил дорогу, Пэй Мэй вложил дух воина, большая материнская любовь прервала путь зла
one of the best scenes ever...best acting....best dialogue...best music
FACT: when receiving a katana/samurai you need to accept it with both hands and palms open as a sign of respect.
How does one 'receive' a Samurai?🤔
nice edition thanks guy ..ufff so much feelings!!!
R.I.P. legend
Ya sure we can travel on a plane with a bunch of Samurai Swords. Who would've thunk?
That’s a typical Quentin thing to do.
All kinds of shit was onboard planes before 9/11
You didn't notice? There was at least one other sword on that plane. And the airline seats had a special sword holder. It's Tarantino's way of saying it's an alternate universe with a bit of humor. You know Uma Thurman's character Mia in Pulp Fiction talked about her pilot, the one with the female group of special assassins, and her character's special skill was she was the deadliest woman in the world with a blade? That's what Kill Bill is.
Beautiful editing , both visual and audio.. I would think Sonny would be pleased.
Domo
Yama
Best actor
The man put brutal and beautiful in the same movie. In the same scenes. In the same dialogue.
I love this edit 👍🏼
RIP very sad.
安らかにお眠り下さい
Just like add when he hands the Katana over his apprentice emotions come through great acting all round
I can tell you with no ego, this is my finest sword. If on your journey, you should encounter God...God will be cut."
this is my favorite line!!! it’s testament on how skillfully made the katana and how awesome it will be in the hands of the bride
R.I.P. Sonny Chiba
It is so ironic sonny chibas son plays zorro in one piece now
Thank you for your service my friends and enemies salute you our unsung hero of the 70s sorry Bruce Street Fighter was the way some people claim Bruce stole some Of Chibbas moves no disrespect to the die hard Dragons out in the world RIP sir RIP Bruce
RIP YOU FRIGGIN LEGEND..
Thank you Mr. Chiba 😢😢 RIP
Background music sound like millennium ago. It was ear catchy 🥰
R.I.P.
Pai Mei who I assume was Bill's master as well takes on his proteges like The Bride and Elle Driver to train, while Hattori Hanzo who was also Bill's master equips one of his own proteges to kill him.
COVID-19 is taking a lot of people. I hope some day it will pass. But yes RIP Sonny. This movie is one of my favorites. Uma Thurman did amazing job. Oh fact. She even had trouble with Harvey. While doing this movie. For ones who don’t know.
I would love to have that sword or a really nice replica of it. Very very nice!!
My most treasured DVD is my Japanese edition of Vol 1. It retains colour throughout the fight with the crazy 88...
The Man from Okinawa is my all time favorite scene in a movie.
WICKED 🔥 THE MUSIC 🎶 DAMEEE
千葉真一さんとても残念です😢

Zamphir rockin the pan flute adds such depth to this
As the "General" removes the scabbard from the sword, he shows great reverence. Today we do not argue.
RIP Sonny Chiba.
