I'm running 488/510 lift cam with stock vortex head and springs no problem drag race car every Friday then dayily drive it no problems as long use stock 350 push rod and stay under 510 lift
That's interesting. I've heard mixed things about different vortec heads. There is no way mine would have clearance to run that. I think I show the measurements in my ls1 ls6 spring swap video. That's cool yours works good though.

This has a flash converter in it that my brother let me use. He had it in another vehicle for drag racing at one time. I want to say its like 2600 or something like that. It's a little weird how it works but for the most part it drives around like normal.
I used the comp retainers he mentioned and bought ls6 springs from summit racing. I installed them at home. I had the clearances checked at my local shop. With that combo you have .525 clearance between retainer to guide with ZERO machine work done on the heads. I went with the xe274, excellent combo on a 388 stroker.
it has a shitty automatic and a shitty 2.73 rear end.it isnt the engines fault,put that in a car with a 4 speed ,5 speed or even 6 speed and a decent rear gear and it would be a lot quicker.

sounds like you have almost the identical combo im building ,other than im running a 7151 gmpp roller cam(0.473 lift) in a 350.

looking at it for my small journal 327 or a video 268
It might work good. Just make sure you got the right springs and clearances

you should swap some 373s n a 2500 stall would pull harder.

I have the summit 2 1/2 inch exhaust kit. It has all pre bent tubes and everything. It comes with turbo mufflers I think they're called.

Are you using self aligning rocker arms?
Yes, they are the original ones that came on the vortec heads I am using

Did you degree your 280 cam
No, just installed it and lined up the marks on the timing set. Put the crank gear at the default "0" setting also.

valve springs n retainer part # tankz
You can use valve springs from pretty much any Chevy LS motor. I happened to use ones off an LS6 Corvette one. The spring retainers are comp 787-16
