  • Major League Baseball Umpires have been bad for a while now, and one of the biggest reasons why they have been considered bad, is because of them falsely ejecting players. From Bryce Harper to Aaron Judge, these umpires have been throwing out all of the best players in MLB for silly things that should not be considered a problem however, have been with the recent umpiring going on. Lets talk about these umpires and some of the worst ejections in baseball

      Exactly, if they set up a review process after the game handled by an outside party where umps could be fined or sidelined for so many games after making a frivolous ejection they'd at least think twice before they tossed someone and it'd cut out a lot of these heat of the moment ego trips.

    There are very specific standards for removal/ejection and the umpires write very detailed reports for their ejections. Some of the standards for removal are dumb, but that’s an MLB issue not an umpire issue.

    First off, this is one of the biggest reasons I don't like baseball! Second, if you want to change it, just sending it to a vote among the other refs will not change anything, due to biases within refs. If a lead and seasoned ref decides to throw out someone, then the rest of the refs will likely vote with them just to keep their job (in most accounts). If you want to change this policy, first be clear in the rule book what would qualify an ejection. Then, set up an unbias committee to look into the circumstances surrounding the ejection, and punish the ref who made the call. And if enough bad calls are made, then a firing of the ump! If a player can get cut for bad play, then the refs should also, and this should be all sports not just baseball!

    Players and coaches know what they're doing when they get tossed 99 percent of the time... Pete Rose was ejected on a day the stadium was handing out posters of him. He was ejected bc he told the umpire he needed to go back to umpire school. After the game, he sent an autographed poster to the umpire with the message, keep up the good work. It was the umpire's first season and Rose was testing him... These are professionals who have spent their lives around the game... They know you can't argue balls and strikes. They know if they walk away while they say something inappropriate it will make the umpire look bad to the crowd when they get tossed. They know you can't showboat (like dragging an on deck circle after being instructed to stand on it) ... these men know what they're doing and when you start bashing the umpires for doing their job, congratulations, you have been successfully manipulated by those players... ...all that being said, mistakes are made and we've seen a couple this year with judge getting tossed for the Fan's words and the catcher getting tossed for moving his glove... But those were legit mistakes that were understandable from the umpire's perspective... I wouldn't be opposed to some kind of mechanic by which to undo an ejection for cases like those, but they are truly outliers... They know what they are doing when they get themselves tossed...

He's a well-known whiner who complains to the point where he becomes a disruption to the games and umpires should not tolerate him or the others who almost all have a history of chronic whining. Umpire get their feelings hurt waaaaaaaay to easy, it’s like they are teenage girls.
    I officiate football and basketball, have done so for the last 20 years. In that time span, In basketball - I have tossed 2 coaches and 3 players. In football, none for conduct but a few for illegal hits to the head.
    Yes, it’s two different sports compared to baseball but as an official - setting the tone by making the correct call sets the tone.
    I actually had a conversation with a former umpire asking me why I didn’t toss a player because he started using colorful metaphors at me, I simply told him I don’t take it personal, he is just upset and warning him before I “T” him up usually helps the situation or telling him I will watch for it next time or admit you missed the call.
    MLB needs to tell their umpires to stop getting their hurt.

    I'm 43 seconds in and you've already made a key incorrect assertion - there are rules governing ejections, and after watching every single ejection this season on close call sports, all but maybe 2 were the result of one of these rules being violated, with the other two being ejections that were because the umpire thought the player or manager violated a rule and didn't bother checking to see if it was in fact that player or manager.

    • @peskytalk
      @peskytalk  3 місяці тому +3

      Did I say anywhere that most ejections aren’t justified? If I did I didn’t mean to, most of them definitely are, like at least 90% of them, BUT the “rules” stopping ejections can be broken literally whenever the umpire feels like it. There’s no one really governing them. Even if they do after the game A LITTLE BIT, it could still ruin a game because of how they reacted in the moment.

    He had no idea.

    Excellent video. You should do a video on umpires who touch players and managers. If a player or manager cannot make contact with an umpire, wtf gives the umpires the right to touch players? Laz Diaz is the biggest culprit. If a manager argues with an umpire, there is no reason for another umpire to intervene. Let them argue like men. It seems as if the umpire needs his bf or bff to bail him out. The manager has the right to argue, so the umpire should hear him out instead of walking away while the other umpire blocks or holds the manager. Umpires have become soft wussies.

      He pulled it away from the umpire i meant, he was trying to not get hit by a foul ball, the angle where he was standing made it very difficult to get hit, where the circle was made it much easier. He was not doing it to get in the eyes of the pitcher it was 100% bc he was in a safer spot, the game was 18-6, he was not trying to steal signs for his teammate 💀

  • @retiredatforty

    It’s largely a rule problem, and mostly stems from bad calls at the plate. The idea that you can’t calmly say, “C’mon, that one was a little low, Bob” without being tossed is insane. Especially in an era of computers giving us instant feedback on each call behind the plate.
    They should put up on the Jumbotron every pitch immediately after the call, including the box drawn onscreen, so the umpires get immediate feedback and tighten up their calls themselves. That alone would stop a lot of this. The players see their errors writ large on the Jumbotron, so why not the umps’?

    To all the people saying that this or that ejection was justified because the player "broke the rules", I think that maybe it's time to review the rules. I really fail to see how "showing up the umpire" should be an ejectable offense. Umps aren't gods. Maybe (since MLB seems to be so concerned about how long games take), time a player's rant. If he rants and screams for more than, say, 15 seconds, then toss him. The ump could stand there with a stopwatch and say, "OK, you've got 15 seconds." Player or manager blows off steam, game resumes, and no harm, no foul. Right now, to run a professional baseball player, who the team may be depending on, at the whim of a thin-skinned ump, is absurd. Also, each and every ejection should be reviewable by a team of players, management, and umps. The umps should be fined (like the players) for unjust ejections.

    From an umpire’s perspective: I agree that ejections should be able to be reviewed by the crew before becoming official. HARD disagree on both Beltre and the fans.
    Beltre was showing up the umpire when moving the on deck circle, and definitely deserved to be tossed, regardless of game situation.
    Fans can be brutal. If you don’t believe me, go umpire a middle school or little league game. We HAVE to be able to police the worst of the worst, because often the stadium crew or the game officials present don’t have any real idea what is being said or done by the fans in question.

    I agree yes the umpires are way to quick to eject it’s kind of ridiculous but at the same time the players are childish little pansies and should also know when it’s the right time to talk back to an umpire and not do it with every single strike call. Baseball needs to grow up a bit in general

    Two of the most problematic umpires, Joe West and Angel Hernandez have gone, but unfortunately, many unfit for the job remain. I wouldn't consider paying to go to a MLB game at present-too many fragile egos and power tripping fools amongst the umpiring crews. The blame has to go to MLB administration for lacking the balls to go toe to toe with the umpires union that protects these incompetents. MLB must have more tools and ways of dealing with the clown umpires who take away from the game. I apologize to all professional clowns out there for the comparison.

    Good video but you’re overlooking one thing. There are no solutions. Only because the umpires will NEVER give up the almighty all seeing all knowing and always right position. Never. They are God on that field and would never give an inch of that back. If an ejection was ever overturned they’d just toss the next guy for the first little thing he did or immediately pick on an entire team. And almost any conversation can be misrepresented as “arguing a call that they’re not allowed to argue “.

  • @riverhorse2963
    @riverhorse2963 2 місяці тому

    You are wrong with almost everything you say here. The umpires were right in throwing out most of these players. The umpire is in charge. You listen to him. It's all about respecting authority. The ump is the authority, not the player. Beltre disrespected the ump and got what he deserved as did most of these players and managers. The Realmuto ejection was wrong but they aren't perfect. Stop trying to turn people against authority just because you don't have respect for it. Do better!

    Any ejection while the player or manager is walking away is a bad one. And umpires chasing after players is worse. You don’t have to HEAR some things; just let it go. Look at Bellino and MadBum: Bellino should have been suspended at least for the rest of the season.

    For the John Lackey one, the umpires shouldn't have thrown him out because it was on purpose, but because he lacked ball control. I remember that happened during a Rays-Yankees game, the pitcher hit three Rays in an inning and the umpires tossed him because his ball control sucked.

    I disagree, The biggest problem I have with this (and why I believe we need MORE Ejections in MLB and other sports) is because ,In the social media Era, many players have become spoiled and entitled. Do we really want that behavior to be shown to kids that see many of these athletes as role models

  • @sinocte

    Simple. The offended ump can request an ejection, but another ump has to actually order it... So the offended one has to stop, think and EXPLAIN why he's so butthurt and get another ump to sign off on it.

    The umpires have a massive ego problem and MLB needs to step in and fire umpires one by one and clean house until they get the message. I am wondering if minor league umpires have this massive ego? They are off to a good start getting rid of Angel Hernandez. Now CB Buckner and others must go. A manager or player can not even speak to them anymore. As you say in the video, If I pay money to see a game, I would not want to have a star I pay to see be ejected in the first inning.

    Judge getting ejected was a real head scratcher. The most that man ever says is "really?" and just gets back in the box. He rarely even says a word on bad calls low in the zone by his ankles and that happens all the time. Umps got big heads i.e. Angel Hernandez, may he enjoy retirement far from a baseball field
