    STORYLINE:
The Olympic torch will finally enter France when it reaches the southern seaport of Marseille on Wednesday.
The organizers of the 2024 Paris Games have promised a “fantastic celebration” as the majestic ship carrying the torch from Greece is welcomed by a huge crowd in Marseille.
The flame was lit in Greece last month before it was officially handed to France.
It left Athens aboard a three-mast ship named Belem, first used in 1896, and spent twelve days at sea.
More than a thousand boats are to accompany the Belem's parade around the Bay of Marseille.
The ship will then dock on a pontoon resembling athletics tracks in the Old Port.
A spectacular show will include a demonstration by the fighter jets of the Patrouille de France, the acrobatic team of the French air force.
Olympic swimmer Florent Manaudou has been chosen to be the first carrier of the flame in France.
Manaudou won four Olympic medals and he's the brother of swimmer Laure Manaudou, who won three Olympic medals and carried the torch in Greece.
In Marseille's city center on Tuesday, many security officers could be seen patrolling as a military helicopter flew over the city’s Old Port, where a wide range of barriers have been erected.
After leaving Marseille, a vast relay route will be undertaken before the torch's odyssey ends with the opening ceremony of the Games on July 26 in Paris.
The journey includes iconic places across the country, from the world-famous Mont Saint-Michel to D-Day landing beaches in Normandy and the Versailles Palace.
The final location of the flame during the Paris Olympics is being kept top-secret by organizers.
Among reported options are iconic spots such as the Eiffel Tower or the Tuileries Gardens outside the Louvre Museum.
