Being a director on engineering for a hotel I usually didn't have to perform these task but since I had to lay off most of my staff .I'm being ask to do the work that I haven't done since I first became a engineer . Great learning experience with prevenative maintenance. Mostly I see that type of chiller with cooling towers at hospitals. I work at a military base in New Orleans and we have the other type of chillers without cooling towers.

I'm just in general maintenance, but recently got a building that has cooling tower in the basement, chillers, boiler, heat pumps etc, so I'm just trying to increase my understanding of how these things work. The other building I'm responsible for has Carrier RTU's, but also 3 Liebert units for the data center.

Hey Ken ,how you ? I hope you realise this video is the best I've seen so far and I've been looking for information on this subject cooling towers ,and heat exchangers. I've worked as panel beater and completed the trade. From there I did more welding courses, over the year's and loved welding . So I remained as a panel beater 14 year's, and in that time I worked for a radiator repairer cause I learned a lot about pressurising the system raises boiling temp ect . Do im pretty sure that this is why big desile cat plants and Cummings ect have low pressure cooling systems, because of the size of the area in side the block and the heads radiator and the heat exchange for the hydro fluids to be cooled. Please if I'm not quite right on that one , could someone correct me if I'm wrong. Car engines usually run around 15 psi where those big radiator's we'd test at 3 to 4 psi . As my boss said keep your face outta the firing line of the bung plugs and hold ya hand over them with force. I remember testing have at a time and there was 6 of us to man handle beast of thing's that they are . But we love it cause we wouldn't do that job otherwise. Anyway what im doing is wanting to cool compressed air down to remove water outta the air pryer to the receivers . I have 4 receivers set up on my property and this is fun project for me . As buying the real deal air drier for spray paint sand blasting air tools ect is little expensive, and I know that the old toilet paper water filters were great as well. I don't know were to get one of those now. Because after I've condensed the air as best I can then it'll flow into the main compressor receiver ,at the other ends of air lines, I'll put nice water trap 70 meters of 48mm air hose to the pig then water trap will hopefully workout as I've bourt shit load of 3/4 copper tube 25 meters there around ,and the fittings valves ect . Yeah as I was saying to use the tower at the same time for another experiment that requires cooling as well . When I was young I used to try to build what was out at my dads work CIG back then and yeah ,I loved the smell of the plants and of cause the plant is feeding chemical plant in the next lot way over past the buffer zone. Big shit just Massive machinery compressors pipes and the noise I love it . So I've been poking round for info and your video is ten outta ten Ken . Very clear and you explained everything I wanted to hear. Instead shit electronic crap music. We hear a plant running hard and your talking to us . Like silent movie a lot of the videos some are ok yours is the best video that I've seen in the last three week or so . I'm wondering about fill media and or can I make Up something like fill maybe shade cloth ,I'm not sure on that. I've made the spray bar and im going to put the eliminations on each bar x4 approx meter and cold water basin is a 1000 litre chemical container cut down to 1/4 of the depth . Ball float for water make up , water 1 hp pump is attached to its drain, and I'll put in another drain to clean and dump tower water. So, I'll have to make a anti vortex pump intake and intake and meshing before pump . Thank you Ken im hoping we can chat sometime regarding my project if that's cool. I'd defiantly appreciate that . We don't PM our cooling tower ( perform interior cleaning....we do only the bearings, belts, oil reservoir cups, etc.) so your video was especially educational should I go to another company where they do fully service their cooling towers. I really liked the explanation of how different makes of cooling towers operate like closed loop or evaporative.

I'm due to start my new job as a Water Treatment Technician in 3 days time and will be treating Boilers and Cooling Towers as well as performing maintenance on them. I'll be working for Australia's Largest Water Treatment company for industries in far North Queensland..so no need for things like basin heater probes or anti freeze! I have seen your Water Testing video and was just wondering if you are able to do a video on the chemicals used, chemical ratios, drop count testing and any maintenance on the chillers? And possibly covering the different types of electric valves used throughout the system? I noticed there was one on the make-up water inlet? Thanks again!

i have found putting a chicken wire mesh over them helps stop big things getting in and stopping any holes you should have pulled them out to show they are clear all the way through

I do not work with Glycol. I will in future do a video on the chemical treatment that I currently use.

hvac01453 on my open loop tower the chemicals are feed on the inlet at the chiller and drains on outlet at chiller and a treatment company monitors it

But i need to ask. is there any of annual maintenance for dosing systems for chemical?
for the dosing system I just run it till I have a problem with the system, then just fix that issue.
