Absolutely love that paint finish. Just started my Nautilus build - seems to be a nice kit to work on so far.

Beautifully done series! I like the final results, coupled with your progressive advice on the processes of building. I just bought this model and am looking forward to building it. I also just bought the 31" Nautilus model kit with prop functionality, and lighting kit. Looking forward to building both. Thanks for the help.

Doc, Thasts the most beautiful piece I've ever seen you build, truly a work of art. Before now I didn't think I wanted to try this kit, however you have truly inspired me as you have many times in the past. Man, you are WAY too hard on yourself...really great work!

Nice Job. Just a thought... blacken the brass tube and take some simple sand and glue it on the the top of the base and add a rock or two may help dress up the base a bit. It is simple and quick. I still think that you can tone down the gloss with an AB of dull coat without fully masking off the clear parts.

I really enjoyed watching these videos. Excellent work on the kit! I really must get one of these and try my hand at building it. I've never worked with LEDs before, but this kit really does need the lighting to get the most out of it, so I will have to learn a new skill (and that's always a good thing.)

Well done. Trials and errors, coping and managing stuff are very interesting to watch and learn from. The model turned out great even if it’s not what you wanted.
Also the windows look a bit foggy, maybe some polishing at the very beginning was necessary?

First I want to say, that your channel is really great... learned a lot here!
Second: This vid got me thinking to use the iron paint/vinegar mix as a undercoat and then use hairspray or masking fluid before painting over to get a real dirty look on my 40k tanks. Do you think there are difficulties doing this?

I think it looks great. BTW RC SubGuy's name is Bob Martin. An incredibly nice guy. He sells a few different version of the Harper Goff 20K Nautilus. I have purchased one from him. I love it. He gets them from the creator of the 66" and 31" Nautilus. A great product if you want a hyper accurate version of the Harper Goff version.

What I will be experimenting with when added the iron paint is to infiltrate it with some dark emerald green and it's opposite, a very dark gun metal blue, weakly stirred into the paint and vinegar. I'll be testing this on other materials first. The surface is everything for this kit, and I want to push it as far as it will go.

It looks GREAT! I have to admit I didn't like the first rust look, it looked like an old sunken ship that got rusty. But after the 3rd coat it looked just like a steampunk vehicule that is always in the water (so with some rust on it) but that is still working. Just like the one in the Disney movie. Perfect!

If you want more of a textured rust you could go back and add some dry pigment to create different colors of rust and textures. Also maybe semi gloss instead of high gloss.

My only quibble is: how does the helmsman see where he's steering the ship? Not much can be glimpsed from those eye-like side windows. I think the Disney Nautilus was better equipped in this regard.

First off, she's a BEAUTY and you've got no reason to be unhappy with your work. The rust effect works. One thing though, going back to the 2nd or 3rd vid where you cut out the ceiling panels and installed the photo-etched grid panels and decided you couldn't put the lights above them because it was too bright and you'd have gotten stark lighting effects. You could have possibly used bits of photographic lighting diffusion paper place between the photo-etched parts and the LEDs to diffuse the light. That may have solved your problem. If not one thin sheet, then 2 or three would probably have done the job. Just my two cents. Also... I've never liked that design of the Nautilus. You made your vid 7 years ago, but I know I saw that kit LONG before that and I think it was originally from REVELL (Don't quote me). What always turned me off about it was what you call the "harpoon". Verne called the device a "long spur". The problem was, in no translation I've ever read did he ever say what a "spur" was, let alone a long one. He NEVER described the Nautilus as having a horizontal mast nor boom made of any material sticking out obscenely far with a pointed cap on the end. This design is rather reserved compared to one I saw scratch-built in a magazine many years ago where the mast was easily half the length of the entire craft. I doubt anyone will ever get the Nautilus to agree with Verne's description. In the book the Nautilus would ram the target vessel, the triangular shaped spur would punch a hole in the hull, then the Nautilus would back away, pulling the spur out, and the target vessel would sink from flooding. In the movie the Nautilus was designed to rip-saw through the target at full-speed and shred the hull beyond saving. It worked for Disney, and it will probably work for all other adaptations to come. All that said, now that I've seen your build... I might give this one a try at some point in the future.... maybe with lights. Good job. I came for miniature painting because of Heroforge, and got a nice surprise. Thanks.
