Depending on who you ask, the last good riders game is either riders 1 or zero gravity. Riders 1 might be over 20 years old by this point, and I don't know how old zero gravity is. Personally, I'd create a remastered collection of the first two games in preparation for a new riders game.

The PS2 Version of Sonic Heroes is available on PS3 as a PS2 Classic (perhaps it's been removed, it's been a long long time) and apparently it actually runs better than on actual PS2 Hardware (improved FPS etc. etc. you can actually access a Menu for the PS2 Emulation as well, open the "Home Button Menu" when in a game and hold L1/R1/Down/O for about Ten Seconds and you can mess around with Anti-Aliasing among other things... Like, straight up, put SA2:B and port/lightly remaster Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog and 06 and put all 4 in a single package and call it The Shadow Saga or something, except SA2:B they are the only mainline games in the entire franchise that are literally currently borderline inaccessible to anyone. Aside from these 3 games we don't need any other remasters or remakes, all games are fine as they are, we don't love Sonic for what he could be, we love him for what he is, let's keep him intact but make him widely accessible is my take on it.

We definitely need ports/remasters/remakes of Sonic games because of how much of Sonic's library is stuck on older consoles that not everyone has anymore. I, myself, would be interested in playing games like Sonic Heroes, Sonic R, etc, but unfortunately, said titles are stuck on the consoles they released on. I know emulation exists, but having to resort to that is pretty bad, in my opinion.

I think Sonic has to go forward and not backwards. We've seen content reuse for decades, we've replayed same stages lots of times, we already have Generations and a remaster of Generations. I would definitely prefer if they spent most of their resources on Frontiers DLC formula. New stuff, unique level designs, etc.
My first ever sonic game was sonic generations and I would love to play the older games but only only stops me is the graphics quality seriously now we are in the 4K graphics era and the old games are still in 480p only the newer games runs in 1080p 1440P and don’t forget the hardware and FPS

However, the licensing issue is only part of the issues with Heroes. Because you see, in 2006 later they decided to shut down all of the facilities, that were working on the Renderware, and the last game made on it was released in 2008 So yeah, not only the engine is owned by a competitor, the engine itself is basically unusable
Additionally, the reason why Unleashed probably won't be re-released soon is pretty silly - they've lost rights for the Endless Possibilities. Seriously, a game without its main theme? Also the voice cast - they probably won't bring the older casts back. Well, money. And yet another reason why they won't do anything with the older games

Insane idea, I just thought of for potential Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 remakes, since they won't have VMU/Gameboy Advance connectivity for the Tiny Chao Garden, they could make a mobile game that connects to the base game for bringing Chao on the go, limitless potential and they could re-use it for future games that might include the Chao Garden

I would love a Sonic Heroes 2. I remember one of the writers for SH releasing the original teams he had planned which involved more characters than what we got. Since Sega doesn’t want Cream in games anymore it’d be interesting to see new team comps especially with all the new characters added after SH and Sega using older characters. Amy as a speed character never made sense to me. Like I can picture her as a power type on a team with Rouge and Blaze. I have a big soft spot for the Babylon Rogues so I’d love to see them included. I never had a Dreamcast as a kid so Sonic Heroes was my first 3D Sonic game. I’d honestly love a new Sonic Riders game, it’s another game I have a lot of nostalgia for. Sonic 06 I never played but I think it deserves a chance to be remade.
I would love remakes of SA1 and SA2. Especially SA2 because that game is very close to my heart. Thanks to Steam, I have the DX version of SA1 on my PC and am able to play it for the first time ever. I also have SA2 on my PC and I absolutely love it. I remember tearing up the first time I played this port because it holds so many amazing memories for me. If and when Sega brings these two games to current consoles, I’d like them (Sega) to take their time with them (these games). I’d hate for them to be blundered. They deserve the utmost respect 💯 I’d also like to see Sonic ‘06 get ported/remastered/remade. I never played it but I’ve seen the full gameplay of it on YT and really liked it (especially seeing Silver getting roundhouse kicked in the head by Shadow 😂). Shadow the Hedgehog is another game I would really love to see get a port at least. I regret not buying this one back in 2005 but have seen its full gameplay on YT. The 20th anniversary of the game’s release is next year. If I could find some way to play it by then, that would be awesome!
There actually is a modern system that has Sonic Heroes in its backwards compatibility catalog. And that system is...the Xbox Series X! If you have a Sonic Heroes disc for the OG Xbox, it will run on a Series X.
If they bring back Unleashed, I want an toggle option or cheat option built in to one-shot any non-boss enemy as werehog. That's all. The rest could stay the same and I'd buy it.
I'd actually say Sonic Heroes is less accessible than Sonic Advance series. The games were released on the Wii U virtual console....if you lived in Japan. It seems to be issues due to THQ releasing the games in America, but I think I've seen reports that Sega may give the rights back. Only time will tell, but if they did so already for Wii U, I could see them doing it again (especially since they have more NSO games than any 3rd party company...mostly because of Genesis Online, but they also allowed SNES PuyoPuyo on there)
I think sonic unleashed is the most deserving of a remake/remaster since lost world got a pc release and not many cared for that game u know, but the adventure and heroes games need it too I agree
Hypothetically 06 already has a remake thanks to Project 06 so really if SEGA can get in touch with the developers of this Fangame they can turn it into an Official Product and Release it on modern hardware.

I would love a Sonic Origins 2 with Advance games on it, but like, in my dreams lol. When it comes to what _will actually happen_, I think a Sonic Adventure remake is likely. Sonic Adventure is a game with so much to say and such ambition, but the Saturn wasn't really up to it and the Saturn base of the game wasn't quite enhanced enough when the Dreamcast rolled around to pull off the cutscenes of the directors' dreams. I think there's even a chance, considering Sonic and Tails R, that Ryan Drummond might be back for this remake but I wouldn't hold my breath -- and hearing Roger's version of "Somethin Buggin' You?" would be awesome anyway and maybe just the thing to get me finally to like him.
This might be a wild take, but I feel like a Sonic '06 remake would be good. It has some iconic scenes and arguably a decent story (if you cut out the weird Elise and Sonic relationship and turn it into more of a friendship). It felt like what Sonic Adventure 3 could have been, with even more larger-than-life plotlines and Mephiles being the first villain to have managed to kill Sonic. Sure, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 remasters would also be nice, but they're already well-done classics (even if they might show their age upon replay). While Sonic '06, infamous as it is, is still worth a recommendation with an emphasis on "remake," not remaster. Sonic Heroes would also be nice, hell, I wouldn't mind a kind of sequel with a similar playstyle
Konami recently ported ds games from castlevania and they play perfectly . Sega could definitely release the ds games if they take the time to port them over properly. I would think they could also release the advance games if they wanted to since they own the IP and not Nintendo . Konami and capcom have released gameboy games on all platforms so it could happen.
Personally I thought the Sonic Adventures game remakes should’ve been released in 2020. Other than those two, I’d love to see Unleashed and Lost World be ported to modern consoles.

So this may be a dumb theory but I kinda think the reason why sonic team doesn't want to remaster games like Sonic Unleshed (as well as Sonic 06 and shadow the hedgehog) is because it has the 4kids voice actors in it. I think they rather do business with their current cast. However they make take exception to the dreamcast Sonic cast

While I'd love a port/remastered of the story books games as it may have wii controls but with the Nintendo switch joy cons it is definitely possible to be done but if Sega does it dunno about that.

Pyrite Adventure 1 2 and 3 are remakes (kinda) of Sonic 06 and the adventure series and they are on roblox too (As of October 2024 Pyrite Adventure 3 isnt out yet).

For the Unleashed remaster I would like them to get rid of the combat level and instead make a skill tree, and that some combos deal more damage to certain enemies or something like that. Besides that, all they need to do is fix the framerate and improve the graphics a bit
I feel like most sonic games should be ported to pc instead of a remake, sega already messed up a LOT of remakes or re-releases of older titles and whether you like it or not the original release will most likely be the best experience compared to it’s remakes(sonic colors for example). A pc port would definitely be a more safe option and if it’s trash we can just let the community fix any issues as we been doing for the past years.
The issue with the Sonic Heroes engine to my knowledge is a little bit hairier than licensing because it's more like the engine doesn't exist. And what they have hasn't been maintained or updated by anyone for multiple generations of hardware. It's not just that they don't have the complete source code, as far I understand it nobody does anymore. So there's no way to re-license and upgrade it themselves, they'd need to completely port the game assets to a different engine to do anything with it, and that would almost unavoidably change the feel of the gameplay. I think some form of remake is more likely to happen than a remaster because either one will be costly, and at least with a remake those changes can be made and presented more deliberately. Either way, I think Unleashed is far more likely to happen first because it runs on code and tools they actually have. :)

i would like to hope we haven't gotten Sonic Adventure remakes or remakes of other titles from the earlier 3D era because they want to do them right. sonic generations arguably wouldn't have the same expectations in a remake than we might have for sonic adventure, because it's significantly more modern. it could really make or break the future of sega and sonic if they don't get remakes of their classic 3d titles right, whereas sonic generations can have its textures upscaled, more content added and it's already looking good, because it's still a pretty modern video game that people enjoyed. whereas sonic adventure is old and we're going to expect big improvements and changes, even if just because it's been like 20 years since some of these games launched. so it leaves more room for error in delivering on those expectations. tbh i have high hopes. modern sonic titles haven't been going in a direction i enjoy. although i don't dislike the franchise at all, i have been sustained not through sonic video games, but more so by the tv, movies and memes. i think memes matter more when talking about sonic than other franchises, because few franchises have so successfully joined in on the meme than official Sonic the Hedgehog social media platforms have in my opinion. because i enjoy the Sonic "dark ages" games more than any of the modern games, i enjoyed generations, but all the boost games feel like a step down from the non-boost formulas in my opinion. fortunately, we can have both, but sega hasn't been doing it. so really exciting news that the non-boost boys can finally get their hands dirty, hopefully. i'm looking forward to sega breaking that pace for a bit with some remasters of older titles to revisit, HOPEFULLY, non-boost gameplay and satiate those fans for a while. hopefully. i certainly don't hate boost gameplay, it just got boring fast. i feel like you play one boost game you played em all, even though the boost games have some great stories and character moments. i'd rather watch those games than play them.

hot take: We need a Sonic Boom remake. Undeniably a worse game than 06... But just like 06; underneath the garbage and technical flaws, is a genuinly good game. Give it a remake that fixes the main issues of Boom (being technical stability, level-layouts that are mindlessly holding forward, and a small portion of the writing) and you could have a genuinly great product to be loved. Also as much as I personally would love to see remakes of the storybook games (and just an entire revisit of that spin-off series with posssibly a new title to at least make it a trilogy)... yeah I agree that they would most likely never do it.

Yeah Sonic unleashed the game is just perfect for me I like the gameplay I can play the game either the only Sonic game so I played is read much Sonic colors ultimate and Sonic frontiers and Sonic superstars
I would love a Sonic Heroes 2. I remember one of the writers for SH releasing the original teams he had planned which involved more characters than what we got. Since Sega doesn’t want Cream in games anymore it’d be interesting to see new team comps especially with all the new characters added after SH and Sega using older characters.
Amy as a speed character never made sense to me. Like I can picture her as a power type on a team with Rouge and Blaze. I have a big soft spot for the Babylon Rogues so I’d love to see them included. I never had a Dreamcast as a kid so Sonic Heroes was my first 3D Sonic game.
I’d honestly love a new Sonic Riders game, it’s another game I have a lot of nostalgia for. Sonic 06 I never played but I think it deserves a chance to be remade.
I would love remakes of SA1 and SA2. Especially SA2 because that game is very close to my heart. Thanks to Steam, I have the DX version of SA1 on my PC and am able to play it for the first time ever. I also have SA2 on my PC and I absolutely love it. I remember tearing up the first time I played this port because it holds so many amazing memories for me. If and when Sega brings these two games to current consoles, I’d like them (Sega) to take their time with them (these games). I’d hate for them to be blundered. They deserve the utmost respect 💯
I’d also like to see Sonic ‘06 get ported/remastered/remade. I never played it but I’ve seen the full gameplay of it on YT and really liked it (especially seeing Silver getting roundhouse kicked in the head by Shadow 😂).
Shadow the Hedgehog is another game I would really love to see get a port at least. I regret not buying this one back in 2005 but have seen its full gameplay on YT. The 20th anniversary of the game’s release is next year. If I could find some way to play it by then, that would be awesome!

There actually is a modern system that has Sonic Heroes in its backwards compatibility catalog. And that system is...the Xbox Series X! If you have a Sonic Heroes disc for the OG Xbox, it will run on a Series X.

I'd actually say Sonic Heroes is less accessible than Sonic Advance series.
The games were released on the Wii U virtual console....if you lived in Japan. It seems to be issues due to THQ releasing the games in America, but I think I've seen reports that Sega may give the rights back. Only time will tell, but if they did so already for Wii U, I could see them doing it again (especially since they have more NSO games than any 3rd party company...mostly because of Genesis Online, but they also allowed SNES PuyoPuyo on there)

Hypothetically 06 already has a remake thanks to Project 06 so really if SEGA can get in touch with the developers of this Fangame they can turn it into an Official Product and Release it on modern hardware.
I completely get the risk an 06 remaster/remake would be and the damage it did… but if you do it right that’s exactly *why* it would be worth doing. Fixing the most hated game ever would be the biggest W that Sega’s reputation could ever have… and P-06 is right there to collaborate on if ChaosX were up for it
06 is my most wanted but I never got to play the Adventure games when I was a kid (I started with Heroes) so remakes on them would be incredible

I would love a Sonic Origins 2 with Advance games on it, but like, in my dreams lol. When it comes to what _will actually happen_, I think a Sonic Adventure remake is likely. Sonic Adventure is a game with so much to say and such ambition, but the Saturn wasn't really up to it and the Saturn base of the game wasn't quite enhanced enough when the Dreamcast rolled around to pull off the cutscenes of the directors' dreams. I think there's even a chance, considering Sonic and Tails R, that Ryan Drummond might be back for this remake but I wouldn't hold my breath -- and hearing Roger's version of "Somethin Buggin' You?" would be awesome anyway and maybe just the thing to get me finally to like him.
This might be a wild take, but I feel like a Sonic '06 remake would be good. It has some iconic scenes and arguably a decent story (if you cut out the weird Elise and Sonic relationship and turn it into more of a friendship). It felt like what Sonic Adventure 3 could have been, with even more larger-than-life plotlines and Mephiles being the first villain to have managed to kill Sonic.
Sure, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 remasters would also be nice, but they're already well-done classics (even if they might show their age upon replay). While Sonic '06, infamous as it is, is still worth a recommendation with an emphasis on "remake," not remaster.
Sonic Heroes would also be nice, hell, I wouldn't mind a kind of sequel with a similar playstyle

Konami recently ported ds games from castlevania and they play perfectly . Sega could definitely release the ds games if they take the time to port them over properly. I would think they could also release the advance games if they wanted to since they own the IP and not Nintendo . Konami and capcom have released gameboy games on all platforms so it could happen.

So this may be a dumb theory but I kinda think the reason why sonic team doesn't want to remaster games like Sonic Unleshed (as well as Sonic 06 and shadow the hedgehog) is because it has the 4kids voice actors in it. I think they rather do business with their current cast. However they make take exception to the dreamcast Sonic cast

While I'd love a port/remastered of the story books games as it may have wii controls but with the Nintendo switch joy cons it is definitely possible to be done but if Sega does it dunno about that.
i feel like they could do a remaster or something for the story book games like they did for skyward sword and other wii games, but they would probably make it like skyward sword where you can choose to use motion or the joysticks
Pyrite Adventure 1 2 and 3 are remakes (kinda) of Sonic 06 and the adventure series and they are on roblox too (As of October 2024 Pyrite Adventure 3 isnt out yet).

For the Unleashed remaster I would like them to get rid of the combat level and instead make a skill tree, and that some combos deal more damage to certain enemies or something like that. Besides that, all they need to do is fix the framerate and improve the graphics a bit

I feel like most sonic games should be ported to pc instead of a remake, sega already messed up a LOT of remakes or re-releases of older titles and whether you like it or not the original release will most likely be the best experience compared to it’s remakes(sonic colors for example). A pc port would definitely be a more safe option and if it’s trash we can just let the community fix any issues as we been doing for the past years.
Generation was made in unreal engine 3 so it’s easier to port into hedgehog engine than older games

The issue with the Sonic Heroes engine to my knowledge is a little bit hairier than licensing because it's more like the engine doesn't exist. And what they have hasn't been maintained or updated by anyone for multiple generations of hardware. It's not just that they don't have the complete source code, as far I understand it nobody does anymore.
So there's no way to re-license and upgrade it themselves, they'd need to completely port the game assets to a different engine to do anything with it, and that would almost unavoidably change the feel of the gameplay. I think some form of remake is more likely to happen than a remaster because either one will be costly, and at least with a remake those changes can be made and presented more deliberately.
Either way, I think Unleashed is far more likely to happen first because it runs on code and tools they actually have. :)

i would like to hope we haven't gotten Sonic Adventure remakes or remakes of other titles from the earlier 3D era because they want to do them right. sonic generations arguably wouldn't have the same expectations in a remake than we might have for sonic adventure, because it's significantly more modern. it could really make or break the future of sega and sonic if they don't get remakes of their classic 3d titles right, whereas sonic generations can have its textures upscaled, more content added and it's already looking good, because it's still a pretty modern video game that people enjoyed. whereas sonic adventure is old and we're going to expect big improvements and changes, even if just because it's been like 20 years since some of these games launched. so it leaves more room for error in delivering on those expectations.
tbh i have high hopes. modern sonic titles haven't been going in a direction i enjoy. although i don't dislike the franchise at all, i have been sustained not through sonic video games, but more so by the tv, movies and memes. i think memes matter more when talking about sonic than other franchises, because few franchises have so successfully joined in on the meme than official Sonic the Hedgehog social media platforms have in my opinion. because i enjoy the Sonic "dark ages" games more than any of the modern games, i enjoyed generations, but all the boost games feel like a step down from the non-boost formulas in my opinion. fortunately, we can have both, but sega hasn't been doing it. so really exciting news that the non-boost boys can finally get their hands dirty, hopefully.
i'm looking forward to sega breaking that pace for a bit with some remasters of older titles to revisit, HOPEFULLY, non-boost gameplay and satiate those fans for a while. hopefully. i certainly don't hate boost gameplay, it just got boring fast. i feel like you play one boost game you played em all, even though the boost games have some great stories and character moments. i'd rather watch those games than play them.

We need a Sonic Boom remake. Undeniably a worse game than 06... But just like 06; underneath the garbage and technical flaws, is a genuinly good game. Give it a remake that fixes the main issues of Boom (being technical stability, level-layouts that are mindlessly holding forward, and a small portion of the writing) and you could have a genuinly great product to be loved.
Also as much as I personally would love to see remakes of the storybook games (and just an entire revisit of that spin-off series with posssibly a new title to at least make it a trilogy)... yeah I agree that they would most likely never do it.
