  • Yongnuo have updated their popular 50mm f/1.8 autofocus lens. The mark II version is new and improved...not to mention, a bit more expensive, although still about half the price of Canon's 50mm f/1.8 STM. Let's see how the new Yongnuo lens shapes up.

    I love that remark about the protective film on the rear element. I bought the Yongnuo 35mm a couple years back, put it on my 5D II (gives a bit of a ballpark date), and was horrified at the softness of the image-how could they sell a lens in this condition, it looks like I'm photographing through a plastic bottle! I chucked it in a drawer and didn't think about it for a few years, then on a whim, got it out of its box, took off the rear lens cap, and felt like a bit of an idiot not to notice that it still had the plastic bit on. It's not a bad little lens if you remember to take the plastic off-I also find that my pictures look better if I take off the lens cap :)

    Hey Chris, you can attach the lens to canon, set the aperture, half press the shutter, then screw the lens out, then the lens will be stuck at the aperture that you set. Mount it onto the Sony then you should be able to test it :)

    I own both this lens and Canon 50mm STM at f1.8 the centre sharpness is comparable. Like you said the susceptibility to flare is less in Canon, also less noisy in Canon. Other than that both lenses are really comparable in terms of sharpness and distortion. Bearing in mind the Yongnou is much cheaper. I will be selling one most likely the Canon.

    Update: just played around with the Nikon version, and I don't think it's worth it, it's just not sharp. Could be the d800 I was using, which brings out the worst in lenses, but either way, I'm selling it on. Better off buying a Nikon 50mm 1.8D

I am shocked to know that there is no lens which delivers even 15 mp. Canon 50 mm f1m8 stm delivers only 14mp of image. So wats the point of have 24mp cam. Ive checked many lenses on dxo mark.... what should i do now? Which lens can give me max MP. My cam supports 24 mp but no lens support it. Advice me. Thanks yasir.

      Have you been reading DXO Mark reviews? At the end of the day, a 24mo sensor is very demanding, but there are lenses out there that can deliver full resolution if you stop down their aperture to f/5.6 or f/8.

      In very simple terms, your backgrounds will look less blurry / out of focus. This is what many people consider to be one of the principle advantages of using a full-frame camera - more out of focus backgrounds in your images. The same amount of light will come in to you camera though. IF you're still stuck, take a look at one of the many videos on UA-cam about crop factors.

    This lens looks alright if you really need to safe money so it might be a good option. But I guess there are some vintage manual focus lenses that are nicer to buy second hand if you don't mind the manual focus. Also I would not mind a lower aperture like f2 or f2,4 as the highest aperture to make the image quality a little better. I guess that would make it a good upgrade with only a little lower aperture which I'm probably already going to use most of the time anyways

      There is no Canon camera with that feature. If you're thinking about Nikon cameras, then this lens isn't currently available for Nikon - something I made clear in this video.

    Got the nikon version..mount it on aps-c...its just too soft, miss focus at low light. its just too narrow for travelling, only fit 1 person in a frame with limited background. Its ok if used with a light modifier on single person potrait. Already swap with nikon 35 mm f1.8 dx version...a little bit expensive, got a used one...more satisfaction...consider i'm only use camera occasionally for travelling.

    I have the mk1 version of this lens and it's not good, does not focus where it should, I am going to pay the extra and get the canon 50mm f1.8 stm today.

    This lens suffers horrible focus shift.
    If you microadjust it for wide open shooting, and then close the aperture a little, you will backfocus severely!
    Also, if you shoot something far away, you might need no correction, however if you shoot a portrait of a person standing 1.5m away - you might need max correction available (+20 in my case!)
    I must say the lens is nice when it focuses correctly, too bad it doesnt happen too often

    Amazon is offering this lens for $48 and change in the US. The Canon unit sells for $125. Add another $6 for a 52mm UV filter. Free shipping with Amazon Prime. Not bad.

    this MK2 lens always make my EOS M10 hung and shutdown its self, working fine with MK1, not sure that i get faulty lens or what, will do some test with other camera.

      after few finding and test, its only work with Canon original EF- EOSM mount. previosly not working because of viltrox adapter.

    In all your reviews the Canon 6D performs best with most lenses. Can you make a review that proofs or disproofs that in the real world the differences between 20MP and 42MP are not that huge. Not every amateur owns the most expensive lenses. DxOmark performs numbers and not pictures. I am asking myself is 20MP still enough or in some cases even better than 42MP?

    • @christopherfrost
      @christopherfrost  6 років тому +3

      The difference between 20mp and 42mp is massive. But if 20mp is enough for the kind of photography you're trying to do, then, of course...it's enough

    • @aklaasvandalen207
      @aklaasvandalen207 6 років тому

      Christopher Frost Photography that I know of course. I see in your reviews that the performence of the 6D is better on my screen.
      The comparison is not right in my opinion when the Sony is so much better. So what you see is not what you get?
      Your answer of course is that the Sony is more demanding?

    • @christopherfrost
      @christopherfrost  6 років тому

      I'm sorry, but I don't really understand what you're trying to say, exactly.

    • @aklaasvandalen207
      @aklaasvandalen207 6 років тому

      Christopher Frost Photography . Why looks the performance of your 6D often better than the performance of your Sony 7RII in your test method?
