In physics, this is why they start off with "consider a spherical cow in a vacuum". It makes the arithmetic easier.
😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Can someone explain?
@@two697 Calculating a cow’s surface area and aerodynamics can involve complex calculations, so it’s easier to assume a spherical cow in a vacuum.
No joke, we had our professor give us a problem which was like "Consider a penguin to be a right cylinder"
Actually I used the trick before watching your video. 12 percent of 52 = 52 percent of 12 = 50 percent of 12 + 2 percent of 12 = 6 + 2*12/100 = 6.24.
What is the use of this trick?
It quite often shows a better way of thinking of
answering it
Actually there is an other trick to do this 50 percent of 12 is 6 and 2 percent of 12 is 2×1=2 2×2= 4 so 6.24
I have the best easier way to get percentage😊
12% of 52
Put 12% into decimal like this =0.12
Then multiply your decimal number with percentage of a number you need to find like this= 0.12 * 52 means 0.12 multiply by 52
Answer=6.24
😂
12% of 25
(10+2)% of 25
So
2.5 + 0.5 = 3
And
12% of 52
(10+2)% of 52
So
5.2 + 1.04 = 6.24
A bit more than 6 is enough accuracy

a) 6.22
b) 6.24
c) 6.26
d) 6.28
good luck with that😂
Q) 12% of 52
= 12/100 × 52

Ans = 6.24
The simplest way... 👍
= 50% of 12 + 2 x 1% of 12
= 6 + 2 x 0.12
= 6.24
:)
yup i do this too
Yea, but this way 12% of 52 is equally as easy, so the trick loses its usefulness anyway
@@pangadajski7687 the key of any trick is to know when to use it. In this case the trick is not really necessary (both numbers are similar in complexity) but one could argue that doing 50% * 12 + 2% * 12 is a little bit easier than 10% * 52 + 2% * 52 since you don't have to memorise and sum decimals in the first case as you start with a round number. The first approach also allows for a more precise quick approximation if you want to ditch the 2%.
This example is easy because it involves only multiplying and dividing an even number by 2...
Why you make it so complicated
Just do (52\100 )×12 =6.24 simple 😑
It's so true 😭
When u actually go to solve the real problem 🗿
I never realised this trick until I realised than the % sign is kind of like multiplying the number by 1/100, and that the word “of” in these scenarios means multiplication. Since the order of multiplication doesnt matter, we can put the % sign to whichever number we want, and order the numbers however we want.

@@fariesz6786 i did say put the "% sign to whichever number", implying we still need to attach it to a number

= 52% of 12
= 50% of 12 + 2% of 12
= 6 + 0.24 (12*2/100)
= 6.24
Actually this is more easy than 5.2+ 1.04
Or you could just do 52 x .12

It is actually easier when you have numbers such as 20, 25, and 50.
What your teacher taught vs what asked in exams
You applied it correctly.
Now you need to consider this:
52% of 12 = (50 + 2)% of 12
= [50% of 12] + [2% of 12]
= 6 + 0.24 = 6.24
All of it is true by the Generalized Commutative Property of Equality.

6.24 is 52% of 12, it is simple on a calculator and still works even if to a fraction of math, it is similar to multiplication in this way it can swap the other way around and still be true.
Most problems that you face in math will not be like the first problem but also not like the second one either. Meaning that although this is applicable it is not an every day use situation.

Every videos does it with something like 12x23 because it is unsurprisingly unpractical in real life (try it with 75x98, you will see what I mean)
I wish they'd teach more practical tricks. Something like 75*98 = 75*100-75*2 = 7500 - 150 = 7350

While their answer comes in exceptional case
A way I like to do this is by multiplying the percentage and the other number together and moving the decimal place the 2 places to the left.
In other words; x% of y = xy × 10^-2
Examples:
12% of 25 = 25 × 12 × 10^-2 = 300 × 10^-2 = 3.
7% of 40 = 40 × 7 × 10^-2 = 280 × 10^-2 = 2.8

Suppose you initially catch 500 drones, tag them, and release them. At some point later you re-catch a new 500 drones, and find that only 300 of them are tagged. Assume drones were equally likely to be caught at all times.
1) What is the smallest number of drones that might be out there? i.e., what is the smallest possible number value N might have?
2) What was the probability of this occurring (these specific catch totals) as a function of N?
3) What number N maximizes the likelihood of these results?
4) Re-do numbers 1, 2, and 3 in the more general setting, with N as the total number of drones, n1 as the number caught and tagged the first time, and n2 caught and tagged the second time.

Thr best way to do percentages is to find 10%. Then find 1%.
Both of those are incredibly easy to find, then you just use addition to get to where you need.
Hope this helps people but its by far the easiest way to do percentages
Do let's find 12 percent of 250.
10 percentages would be 25.
1 percent would be 2.5.
So 2 % would be 2.5 plus 2.5 = 5.
So the answer is 30.

What I do is like this
Question: 12% of 52 ?
Answer :
If 100 = 52 Then 12 is = what ?
So it will be like this
100 = 52
12 = X
Cross multiplication
(12 * 52 ) / ( 100 * X)
624 / 100 = 6.24
The answer is 6.24
I dont use the percentage trick. I made my own mental method from being a kid long before hearing about the percentage trick. Actually I didnt really "make" my method, it was just automatic for me. That was to break into units of powers of 10s.
12% * 52 is:
10% of 52 = 5.2
Plus 100th of 52 times 2 = 0.52 * 2 = 1.04
5.2 + 1.04 = 6.24
I could have come up with the percentage method myself but I never did as I already had my method to do the mental math.
Homework during the year vs the exam
well it does help a lot still, just split it up into 50% of 12 + (1% of 12)*2, 6 + 0.12*2, 6 + 0.24 = 6.24
For 12% of 25:
How many times does 12 fit into 100? About 8 (12×8=96).
Now, how many times does 8 fit into 25? About 3. So 12% of 25 is 3.
Just times it and make it into a decimal for example 12×52 = 624 and then divide it by 10 and then u will get 6.24
52% of 25. 25 goes into 100 four times. So divide your percent by four. 52÷4=13 . 52% of 25 is 13
Bro can calculate how much percent of gunpowder is used in tnt
Math trick I use as a 7th grader.
1. Divide the whole number by 100
2. Multiply the number by the percentage.
That cheesy smile got me...
We will divide 12 by 100 = 0.12 and so 0.12×25=3
We need to convert the rate into decimal so we need to jump 2 times to the right, Or we can divide 12 by 100 and it is equal to 0.12 and so to find the percentage, We need to times the rate and base, So 0.12×25 is equal to 3
The glasses are what did it for me.
It is trivial, 12% of 52 is 6% of 104, which is 6% of 100 + 6% of 4 = 6.24
Use decimal technique on percent then multiply, then depending on its point like say 0.25, then whatever you multiply should also has 2 decimals
So therefore the answer is 3.00 or 3
Well 50%=6 and 2% out of 12 is 0,12*2=0.24 6+0.24=6.24 but in reality you'd be happy with 6 if you're bad at math and want a rough estimate.

What I did was 3% of a 100, because you can multiply the numerator and divide the denominators, in this case 25 and 0.12
6.24 is the correct answer💯
You can do that by using (50% of 12)=6 +(2%of 12=2/100 of 12= 24/100) =.24
Therefore the answer is 6.24.
Mr bprp this way is easier. 😃
I guessed a bit more than 6. 12% is approximately 1/8, but since we’re out of 52, or close to 50, it would be about 1/16, around 6%, so about 6.
12×52 is 624, after you divise by 100, so it's 6.24
Just do 0.12 x 25
25 x0.12= 60 + 240= 300 place decimal after two numbers= 3.00

Yet, another way, i teach it in this case is to multiply 12 by 52. Which is thru 10 x 52 plus 2 x 52, and adding 520 to 104 to get 624 and then shifting the dec two places left to get 6.24 because many students comfortable with mental multiplication

Math is easy when there are still numbers in it
You could reason it and break it down further, you know 50% of 12 is 6 so 6 plus 2% of 12, 2%=.02, .02×12=.24, so your answer is 6.24
This is why I don't like these tricks, they are only good for some numbers.

that’s the same if we change the order the numbers come in cause it’s multiplication

1% of 25: **divide by 100**

2% of 25 = **answer for 1% multiplied by 2**
= 0.25 x 2
= 0.5
12% of 25: **add 10% of 25 and 2% of 25 together**
= 2.5 + 0.5
= 3
