Ellen gave what was probably a top 5 acting performance in the history of cinema in requiem for a dream, and julia roberts won the oscar that year. that bothers me so damn much
What a sweet and wonderful person to talk to. She's been through a LOT in her career as an actress, and despite her hard work and efforts, she never let it get to her head, and she never used the bad experiences as a crutch in her life. She's a very strong person, yet never lost that sweet disposition about her. That is why I love Ellen Burstyn for who she is. I would totally love to meet her in person someday.
Her acting in any movie I saw her made such a huge impact on me..... Requiem for a dream, Exorcist, Alice doesn't live here anymore, Interstellar, Pieces of a woman....... No matter she plays supporting or a lead role, she steals the show.
Brava Ellen! When she mentions "Resurrection" she is so true. She is a great actress overall but she is one of the best of all time in that movie and she have won Oscar.
@@davidrosenberg8897 I became a fan the first time that I saw Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. (Sure, she preceded that with Exorcist, but Exorcist was mostly effects and some story.) I took several married women friends to see Alice as I felt they needed to see a good movie about a woman who changed her life...pretty much without the help of a man. And I have seen that movie 5, maybe 6 times. But Resurrection...I cried through most of that movie, so powerful. And after that I started digging up all the work I could find featuring Ms Burstyn. She appeared on Perry Mason and a few other old B&W tv shows, though my favorite tv appearance was her role as Elliott Stabler's mother on Law&Order. Definitely a terrific actress and in interviews she comes across as so....down to earth and also gracious.
@@howardkerr8174 I don’t think her work in The Exorcist should be dismissed at all. Yes it was a horror movie with a lot of effects but her performance is one of the reasons it is not “just” a horror movie with effects. As for the film itself, I wouldn’t call it a film with just “some” story. It has as much if not more going on in the story than many non-horror films, and there’s a lot more going on in the film, in terms of story and character, than meets the eye initially.
Cool thing back when Ellen Burstyn was nominated for "Requiem for a Dream" was that "The Exorcist" was back in theaters, so she could say that a movie she had a Oscar nomination for 27 years before was back in theaters, wide release and she was in a new movie that she was also nominated for.
It's true she was in 'Same Time, Next Year' on Broadway the year she won for 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore' (1975), but the truth is, I've always thought, that she was pissed for having not won the year before for 'The Exorcist' and she just couldn't take it losing two years in a row so she had her 'Alice' director Martin Scorsese pick up the award for her. She has, more than once, mentioned she thought Gena Rowlands in 'A Woman Under the Influence' was "an Oscar performance," which it most certainly is. She was pretty sure she wasn't gonna win. I'm glad she did.
The character in resurrection's hiding in the desert was a horrible decision for the character. A despicable decision. Hard to forgive her for that choice.
she deserved an Oscar for her role in Requiem for a dream... it was just utterly outstanding.
She has the most beautiful and relaxing voice I could listen to her all day
Exactly her voice is incredible
Her full face lights up when she smiles 😊

One of the biggest thefts in Oscar history.
Me too man that was COMPLETE TRASH!!!
I Guarantee the academy members jus wanted to bone her
I agree, but the graphic violent sexual content [with Jennifer Connelly] ruined the film for me.
If only this was an hour lol
SueSnellLives! Ellen Burstyn winning over Gena Rowlands was one of the biggest thefts in Oscar history too..
Ellen in Requiem made me cry numerous times.
I can't get through requiem for a dream. Her character is too sad it breaks my heart.
GREAT film but so hard to watch. She was amazing in that!!!! I've always loved Ellen

requiem for a dream broke my heart into a million pieces, and ellen's phenomenal performance was responsible for that
What an example of an of a reserved, dignified, quietly at personal peace lady. Bless all women with a older style politeness.
Most beautiful sweet actress to grace the movie screen.
Such a gifted actor just adore her!

One of my favorite movies of all time - it has stayed with me all these years.

Resurrection was the first movie the love of my life watched with me. It has been a favorite ever since.
Ellen as Sara Goldfarb is by far the best acting I have ever seen. It is a fucking CRIME that she didn't get the Oscar.
I wish it was possible to have Ellen Burstyn read me a bed time story every night. It would totally take care of my insomnia.
If you haven't already, you should get the audiobook version of her autobiography - it's sonic bliss :)
Loved Resurrection. It is so amazing on so many levels.

Love that she cites Resurrection as one she places on the top. She’s so eloquent!
I think Every single one in Hollywood should be sorry for not given this legend the oscar on Requiem for a dream
0:27 that giggle. Just like in requiem for a dream, that giggle..
A great actress!
Sweet lovely lady. Not surprised she mentioned Resurrection as her favorite film.
I wanted her to win best actress for the exorcist and Requiem for a dream 😢

Ellen is one of the best actresses ever
excellent actress especially in Requiem.... crazy performance... robbed =[
Divina..
Ellen Burstyn or Kathy Bates?
She’s lovely, isn’t she?
THE EXORCIST
The best female performance ever since E.Taylor in Suddenly Last Summer... But noooooo....
The character in resurrection's hiding in the desert was a horrible decision for the character. A despicable decision. Hard to forgive her for that choice.
She talks about Julianne Moore a 'new actress' , look at her now.
Luisteraarster. Luistervink. Het auteurecht. Het eigen ik.
