I'm with you on the potatoes skins...! Onions...I've found to quarter onion first then rinsing in cold water before chopping...helps cut down on lots of eye burning...works for me at least....plus rub salt on hands afterwards to remove the onion smell if you not like smelling like onions for hours...👍👍😁

Marion the yummiest thing in a cholent is actually the one chicken stock.
It adds such great flavor. I fry onions til sweet and garlic n my spices are cumin, paprika, chicken stock and black pepper. Adding fresh Coriander is amazing too. Its more sefardi.
Marrow bones add an incredible flavor. You can do this with chicken too.

@@bryangagel433 Yeah! Basically I take cholent meat, sweet potato, marrow bone (UBER DUBER SUPER IMPORTANT), bbq sauce, and beans if we are feeling it, and lots of water on top. It turns out more soup-like depending on how much water is in it but I think it's a little easier to digest that way!

I'm just a drop confused bec there's no reason not to cook on rosh hashanah. Cooking is permitted in holidays.....the issue is only cooking on shabbat so chulent is a food for Shabbat bec hot foods that is prepared before shabbat is supposed to be eaten. No one really eats it or cooks it for Rosh Hashanah.

5 medium potatoes, diced (if you like sweet potato, you can add or replace)
1 1/2 cups chulent mix of beans (kidney, navy or "cholent mix"
    1 1/2 cups barley
    2 teaspoons salt
    2 Tablespoons paprika
    1 teaspoon pepper
    2 Tablespoons garlic powder
    1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon montreal steak seasoning or lawrys seasoned salt
    3 Tablespoons ketchup
