I love shooting but I find it so boring to watch. Wish they filmed it by zooming closer to the targets so you can actually see the hits as it happens. Seeing electronic dots is boring.
electronic targets are just holes that the bullets go into where lasers or sound sensors figure out where the shot went, if they zoomed in on the targets you would see nothing. :)
Not really. SIUS targets actually do use paper but in the form of a tape that's rolled after every hit (you can see it hanging below the targets sometimes). The sensors are microphones that listen to the sound a bullet makes when it punctures the paper. Still, it wouldn't be very exciting to see holes being made on a big black "blob" without any rings on it.
Have you ever tried it? The targets are actually 25 m (that's 27 yards) away and to count as a "hit" you have to get 9.7 or higher which is a ring the size of a fraction of the "black spot" that you see (10 ring is 10cm/4in in size and 9.7 is only marginally larger). Hit to the edge of the black is only worth 5 points which is waaay below the limit. Plus they have 4 seconds to raise the pistol, aim and shoot at 5 targets. This is an incredibly difficult competition. Shooting is only easy in movies.
I guess its just the video editing that makes it look easier than it is. For example if you pause at 20:30 it looks like the targets are pretty close and large. I've shot guns quite a lot by the way. So I know how hard it can be.
Excellent finals!
