I'm a psychologist with over 30 years experience doing therapy. This has taught me that any harsh judgement, of either oneself or others, reflects a lack of information or a distortion of the truth 100% of the time. And, the best use of our energy is to manifest loving kindness, towards both self and others. Your words at the end, which came across as heartfelt and wise, and which moved me, suggest the same. Thank you (once again).

Got into Magic as a kid at the library, put it away. Lived a crazy life, and settled down. Got back into Magic and with crazy work hours, kids, wife... I can practice for about 13 minutes before I fall asleep. I berate myself daily because of my "lack of commitment"... Your end words could be an entire video topic on their own. Very relevant way to end a video- I have been trying lately to stop the comparison of my efforts to the giants, with small amounts of success.
Thanks again for another great review- this book belongs in everyone's collection.

Loved your ending comments. Thank you. My guess is that your sentiments are shared by 100s of thousands of people who love magic and keep it as a hobby rather than a profession because of life and its responsibilities that are unique for every individual. Love your book reviews ! Thank you for creating this channel.

Im also a Musician... Grammy Nominated... and the first Rule that Ive always lived by is NEVER apologize for your craft... let the viewers judge you... but do from your heart!! " If nobody hates you... youre doing it wrong" - Daniel Madison... as long as you play and perform from your heart... you are fulfilling your Art... thank you for saying what you did... alot of people get discouraged that they arent like their heroes... i am guilty of that as well.. but as long as you create Art from your Heart! you are on the right path!

This was actually the first magic book I ever bought! 😂. I knew I liked this Dai Vernon guy, and I also knew it included a copy of the gull text of “The Expert at the Card Table” in it, plus his reflections after years and additional techniques he learned over the years. It’s still one of my favorite magic books and gorgeously laid out. Still trying to get the Ping-Pong Shift down!

Hello David - I was able to purchase Revelation by Dai Vernon recently at a god discount so I'm happy about that since it seems to have received some mixed reviews as you indicated. HOWEVER, your very positive comments at the end of your review are ones I have saved and planned to review them when those voices inside my had tell me "Your are never gong to be able to do a perfect Faro shuffle", or "YOU have been practicing that move for 2 weeks now and you still flash the card". Well I hope you get the point and thanks for the positive comments. ED

Dai Vernons book of magic was in of my bibles growing up. I did a version of his cups & balls Roy time for A Young Magician Of The Year competition (Scotland) and won. His words and journey was an inspiration as a teenager. I’m not a good at doing magic trick. In fact I’m sub’par at best. But I love the art form and love watching these videos & finding out new tricks & books with new ways to do things.
Magic is more than the secret, it’s an exploration for once self & gives you the courage to speak and to have a voice.
    It’s also f****ing cool.

The message at the end is so powerful!! Sounds like my old Sifu's words. Be you! I'm always amazed by how closely magic parallels the thought in well.. really any martial art. The old saying of two to the body and one to the head. The opponent thinks the third shot will go to the body, but the conditioning of their mind leaves an average person's head open.
We as magicians do the same thing. A flustration count showing blue backs. The head shot if that the whole deck was red.
My old Sifu always used to say fight your fight not theirs. Same thing with cards. Make the trick yours.. not just a duplication of a trick. Sure, some tricks are simply amazing. But, think of alternate handlings. I have a bad thumb (which is how I got into magic and it saved my use of said thumb) and I cannot dribble any better than a beginner.. even after a few years of trying. Trying alternates positioning.. the muscles are just not there. So, I'll riffle down the side of the pack.
Magic is a beautiful art, people are the canvas and cards, cups, rope etc are our brushes. Paint your story 👍👍

I bought this book from the estate of Dean Dill after seeing Aaron Fishers review. It’s a treasured item in my modest magic library (that includes Fisher’s Paper Engine), but one I return to when I’m feeling inspired. This is the best version of EATCT I’ve seen, and it makes it somewhat more accessible, plus you get insights from the Professor himself, the pictures alone are probably worth the price.
