The island paradise of Bali has many wonders to share. From volcanoes to deep jungle valleys, cafés and restaurants as well as beautiful sand beaches with perfect azure water.
Still we have this thing for those amazing waterfalls, we love to explore them where ever we travel, be it Norway or Indonesia! And today was not different. We decided to travel to what we think might be Balis most beautiful waterfall.
Waking up at 5 am is never easy, but when there is adventure to be had then it´s never a problem for us. We jumped out of bed and only had time for a quick cup of Balinese coffee before heading out and leaving for the waterfall.
There was a thick haze in the air. Humidity from the nights rain was leaving the ground and it was like the landscape around us was breathing out it´s first morning breath as we drove up north heading to our end destination.
The landscape around us changed drastically from the flat rice fields north of Canggu to the jungle areas further north. Soon the roads were angling upwards toward the mountains and valleys and we felt our bikes work just a bit harder as we neared our end goal.
The roads at this time of day are quieter, but never empty. The locals are up and about ready to start their day before the hustle and bustle really takes of and the heat is too strong. Still, the traffic is much nicer and we got there in no time.
Parking at our end destination we found just one bike and some happy locals that told us we were the first to arrive today. We paid the entrance and started our hike down.
there are nice steps down the steep terrain and soon we got to the bottom of the valley where the sounds from the river and the noises from animals were the only thing to accompany us. The trail got a bit muddier, but we hiked on and it was still easy going.
There was this amazing looking wooden bridge to cross that looked like it went across the river and straight into the deepest green jungle. We stopped for some photos and then hiked on.
We started to hear the faint sounds of falling water and knew we were close and after a small incline we rounded a corner and there it was!
You never expect to be really thrown off when you see something in real life for the first time. I have seen so many beautiful spots... but still... this place threw me off... wow!
Leke Leke is something else. In photos and even in real life it looks tiny and thin. It´s nestled in between two dark green cliffs and it just looks tiny when you first spot it. But then you start actually looking and it dawns on you just how tall this thing is! I almost hurt my neck looking up at it from down bellow.
We were lucky enough to have the whole thing to ourselves and we enjoyed every minute of it. Maybe it´s because we were there around 7.30 in the morning, or maybe it was just because we were lucky on our day. The weather in the morning didn´t look too good, but we went anyway, and that might be one of the reasons others weren´t there in the morning.
I pulled out both my cameras and the drone and was running around down there like a kid trying to find the best angles and thoroughly enjoying myself to the fullest capturing the waterfall, Lisa and us both from every possible angle.
And as soon as we started to leave the first tourists started arriving and the trail was full of them on our way back up.
So really, watch the video and listen to our tips because this will save you from having to share this destination with everyone else.
Why is nobody else there in the morning? Well probably because they don´t want to be there all alone and have the time of their life... I guess...
