    Besides, I love your idea about the formation of Arabs. Now try to see Chinese the same way you see Arab and Hindi. The idea of Chinese is somewhere between the national identity and cultural identity. It is true that Chinese don’t exhibit the same degree of diversity as Arab or Hindi does. But it also far away from the degree of homogeneity that Japanese or Korean are.
    Your description of Ming Dynasty as a ethnically-Chinese Dynasty is a typical western narrative, rejecting any potential that China can be a multiethnic country. This certainly deviates what Chinese traditionally view themselves, hence not precise in academic perspective. But westerners still clings to this narrative. Because there is a strong popular sentiment underpinning it, which contemporary China is a colonial empire and need to be divided into separate countries.
    But I am perfectly fine with westerners using this narratives. I mean you have freedom to think in your way. Just do not freak out and claim it is CCP’s propaganda every time Chinese tried to explain their beliefs.
