    I've been playing games that were asking us to organize a large coalition to secure kills on very rare bosses, which meant 24/7 for over a year of constant surveillance. We had everything set up, discord alerts, mandatory scouting shifts and emergency call we had to answer even at 4AM to help secure the kill against other large groups of players trying to kill us.
    It's a very ... fun (for a while) yet extremely taxing gaming experience that only works for the sweatiest of sweats. It eats your life, not answering the calls or telling them you can't come defend meant you'd be kicked out of that very select and hardcore group of people.
    While the situation is not 1:1 with basebuilding and offline raiding, gamers will be gamers and I don't think encouraging that kind of degeneracy is good for the game, let alone for these people's lives. It certainly wasn't enjoyable for me long term so I'm glad CIG takes steps to prevent that kind of degenerate gameplay

    Offline base raiding ALWAYS sucks. Thats the only time it’s gonna happen if that’s how it works. There is no amount of base defenses that will hold off a PVP org. Do what Eve does, you can take down a 1st layer of shielding offline then it starts a timer that both the owner and the attacker can see before being able to actually start a real attack. The first layer is essentially a declaration of war. The timer allows the defender to rally troops and prepare. The attacker also has opportunities to setup FOBs so the war begins before the full assault. This is why the only people that play Rust are sociopaths, they can win without any resistance and they think it’s awesome. The player base, like Eve, is a bunch of adults so this will turn off everyone looking forward to this feature.
    If your thoughts are “oh, well that’s low security, it is what it is buddy” then you’re actually stupid. Eve bases in nullsec are afforded this same timer protection because they understand why offline raiding is terrible game design.

      I mean... It's nice to have the choice of allowing offline raiding or not. Nothing won't with that imo
      The timer does sound cool for the areas that do, but a lot of our bases will just be in higher security areas.

      Offline raiding sucks. Even in Pyro, it's just bad game design. There needs to be a compromise that works for the defense side, otherwise it'll just be griefers field a no game will be played. A timer like you say in Eve is one way, time frames of planetary shield protection is another.

    19:50 At other points in the video you discussed how base raiding will work, so I'm curious why you said here that players who are online will be safe. The way I understood what they were saying is being online just means the attack has to happen on your shard. The only guarantees against getting raided have nothing to do with your online/offline status, but instead are entirely reliant upon planetary shielding, whether from being in a high security zone or winning the weekly bidding wars on Pyro/Nyx.

    • @SpaceTomatoToo
      @SpaceTomatoToo  Місяць тому +1

    I'm not too happy with how they explained mining. However, some being only for FPS mining, having to go into caves to find them where vehicles can't go, that I think would work great. And some stones being to small so a mining ship would overheat it in a millisecond so you need a ground vehicle or even a hand-held mining tool. After all, that would give a reason for the Arrastra to actually carry mining vehicles without making it odd.

    • @Tainted-Soul
      @Tainted-Soul Місяць тому +1

      @magnus_lundgren i agree with the mining but not the scanning. But like tomato said if we could set the scanner to only find hand, rock , or ship and even mass so you dont come to a rock in the prospector and its far to big

    • @magnus_lundgren
      @magnus_lundgren Місяць тому +1

      @@Tainted-Soul Well, as long we can scan for things "of the wrong size". After all, without it, the entire game loop of having non-mining ship scout for the miner would disappear. However, I agree that could be handled by having to equip specific scanners able to analyze the stones/boulders/asteroids.

    1:16:45 You're saying a new player can just steal a $600 Carrack ship and gain the benefits of a $600 ship? For free? This will never happen. CiG will not allow players to bypass the ship store. If for some reason cig decided this was going to happen, Stealing ships would have to be NPC ships since players never lose ships; I could just use an ALT account and steal from the other account to duplicate ships. Stealing and then re-registering ships will cost just as much money/ resources as crafting that ship. There will be no shortcuts in getting a ship hull. Cig makes too much money selling ships. I know you think paints and cosmetics will carry the game, and those things will help, but ships also sell. And they always will.

      Everything that CIG said at CitizenCon in the marked video below at the time stamp implies a few things. Ships can be stolen. Ships can be marked as "stolen" implying that status can exist for some time. Ships can be wiped clean of their title and attributed to you. Take of that what you will. Sounds like they want to let players use ships they steal.

    If you have to be on foot to find hand mineables, that's gonna suuuuck. But I don't really think that's what's happening. It sounded more like they meant that if you're in a Prospector, you can't break ROC size nodes (successfully, chances are you could destroy them easily), and the resources in a ROC size node can ONLY be found in ROC size nodes and so on. So if a crafting blueprint requires, eg. Aphorite, you'll have to find a cave to spelunk somewhere, because Prospectors and ROCs can't do that job. They might get you there, even locate them, but ya gotta hoof it to get the resource.

    Got some concerns with how crafting components plus whatever iteration of the flight model we'll be on by then, along with things like armor and the introduction of thrusters and main engines etc.. being components themselves. They did mention the values that can be changed will be in a "set" range (would love to hear more on that), however with this initial tidbit of info, my brain start wondering; ok how does this look in actual live implementation? Are we going to start seeing Ares with close to light fighter tuning, or F8Cs with interceptor like tuning? Will there trade offs, and are those trade offs impactful enough?
    A random thought (and maybe this is what their aiming for) I had was would a system where "Ship Frames" have a min & max performance for each flight characteristic value and crafting allows you to tune in that range and if you "Wanted" to go above that you risk "Ship Structure" failure for push the frame to hard. This makes the performance of a ship less unknown and possible easier to balance? From a pvp and even pve loop if you scan a ship maybe you can get some sort of info letting you know a ships been "Tuned", and if you have knowledge on ships you have a better understanding of its mins & max capabilities.
    I really like to see a combined Vehicles Team & Crafting Teams live Q&A; if possible put down the initial ideas and acknowledge the initial issues they are potentially seeing.

      "Crafting is a pretty new idea to the game"
      The first mention of crafting in Star Citizen's development dates back to discussions during GDC 2013, where Chris Roberts elaborated on the game's economic systems. At that time crafting was discussed as a process intertwined with the economy, involving production at factories, resource gathering, and item creation. Players could own factories, process raw materials, and manufacture goods, which could then be sold or transported, creating opportunities for collaboration and trade.
      New idea to the game?? sorry friend, but for those of us in from the start who have good memories, it isn't. And I have no doubt you will be hearing about it ad infinitum in the form of plans and proposals and preparations for at least another 3 to 5 years by which time what they want to do will have been rehashed and said again in 500 different ways without anything concrete to show for it or something rudimentary bare bones scaled back 500 miles from what was said today being released in that regard.
      Which reminds me I wonder how that event generating dynamic economy is coming along that was shown off 5 years ago and still hasn't materialised. And as for folks who both don't play in orgs and could not give a crap about them, well they are crap out of luck as the entire focus as per citcon has now been shifted from interactions with the world & NPC's to interactions generated by player to player contact via this org base guff that to me feels like it was shoved in to provide a misdirection from all they have failed to accomplish and to soften rampant disappointment over there vastly scaled back 1.0 release which they tried to sell to all as if it was bigger than promised via a corporate PR managed talk on stage.
      I have no more faith left to give, neither do many others according to funding. I would love to be wrong, I really would, but history is my guide, not belief on empty ever shifting promises and proposals.

    I really don't like hard cuts between resources ... because if you need space iron to make a prospector, if you are on a planet you could never make it. There *should* be some resources that are specific, nothing wrong with saying gems are best by hand, gas is by Starfarer only, and huge rocks are space only because you need immense power. But a real prospector can hand harvest a sample of bauxite etc to analyse to see if the site is worth building a mine on, it would make no sense to say "this is hand mineable iron only" - while adding in base building for base miners, which are entirely separate again from the hand/vehicle/space mining gameplay styles.

    A blue print is a Blue print you either have it or you don't so if you know how to make something how can you only know it once ?
    its easy to steal the ship ( Carrack ) you just crew it for someone and then knock them out and fly the ship off.
    Crafting Level you will find it that there is no point upgrading a low level item you wait until you get the best quality and then upgrade that , but then store it as you will be to scared to use it in case you die someplace and someone else finds it.
    Balancing the ships is easy once they have a base line with each and a max then all the different levels and quality can just fit in the two . eg ship x speed is 200m/s base max with the highest level 400m/s every different stages will fit in that range

    I like most of what I hear about crafting and base building though. This system sounds pretty immersion-breaking and not very SC in some ways, but there's an argument to be made that it actually kinda delivers on the longtime goal of not being able to differentiate between players and NPCs. Just instead of making NPCs so good they seem human, they're dumbing down player bases to seem like NPCs. lol

It sounds like IF they are on another shard you will get a Prompt that tells you the owner is on another shard what they didn't say is it will probably ask you if you want to switch to that shard so you CAN attack their base.
