A simple revenge story on the surface unveils itself as a story regarding the importance of identity and grief, more specifically how we tend to cope with grief in a time of sorrow and suffering. This story’s branching pathways helped me see how similar the two women actually were. Abby finally found a new meaning to her life the moment she took Lev and Yara under her wing. All the pain, all the sadness and the realization of how useless her tracking Joel and killing him was were swept away upon cementing and finding a new purpose….A real one. Ellie, on the other side, wasn't really seeking revenge and she wasn’t so much mad at Abby more than she was mad at the fact that Abby took away the chance for her to reconcile with Joel. She finally had the strength to try and forgive him but he died the day after….and you kinda have to admit he had it coming. Killing Abby was just a objective to focus on, to evade the thought of how badly she pushed away the man that she loved the most, the father that she never had, tormented by the thought of him thinking that she hated him while dying. It took one moment, a single glimpse of him while trying to drown Abby to remember the gift he gave her that night, a real precious one: How to forgive, how to forgive the man that took her chance of saving the world and to forgive the woman that killed him, seeing how that once fierce warrior was crawling in the dirt to save that scrawny little kid. At almost the cost of her life, she ended up giving back to her worst enemy, exactly like Joel did with her years ago

Thank you for the journey! For me ABBY DAY 2-3 is the best part, that's where the story, the level design and the action is the best. It's so much more than just a game.

The “she’s bit!” comment was directed at Ellie when the prisoners saw the fresh bite on her hand. I agree that, given how it’s presented in the midst of other dialogue/action, it’s unnecessarily confusing. But it had nothing to do with Abbie.

I think most people that don’t like the game are just loud. However they are the minority. This game won GOTY for a reason, and are many people’s favorite game of alltime (including myself). Just a masterful storytelling experience if you allow it to tell the story how it’s intended, instead of how you think it should be told.
Yup. This game has one of the most vitriolic hate communities I've ever seen for a piece of media. It's to the point where they still review bomb the game with 1 star ratings and the same copypasted review. hate communities for it are still flourishing on reddit etc. They're incredibly loud, but a minority.

The parallels of Abby and Ellie, are when Abby is tied up and forced to watch as Lev is the one on the ground instead of Joel. A slight remembrance to what Ellie had to watch when she was tied up by Abby's crew.
I agree with everything you said in your final points. We don't know what kind of person Joel was in between the time he loses Sarah and when he first meets Ellie, he could very well be a very terrible human being. And I like to think Abby's story is basically what Joel's could have been in that time that we don't know. We then see the character arc Abby goes through that becomes quite similar to what Joel does with Ellie. She finds someone she would literally do anything for in Lev the same way Joel would do for Ellie.
When I first played through TLOU part 2, it was 2020 and it was pretty tough for me to pick up and play for a couple months. Picking up all the handwritten notes in all the abandoned buildings felt eeriely similar to what was happening in real life. Many of the notes were depicting the panic the ensued during the pandemic very much like peak covid-19. Other notes depicted riots in the cities very much like the height of all the BLM marches and riots.
Definitely one of the best games ever made

As for game recs, idk if you’ve played them before but games like Until Dawn or The Quarry, Outlast or Walking Dead would be nice !
Telling the story by alternating Ellie and Abby would not have worked. The game is designed to make you initially hate and dehumanize Abby and her friends. In the early stages of the game we are aligned with Ellie's thoughts; we want to understand why Abby killed Joel and kill her. The "nice" thing is that little by little we distance ourselves from Ellie, killing all those people and Abby's friends does not make us feel better, it does not give us satisfaction but almost causes us pain to see sweet Ellie become a monster.
The game is designed to make you play mid-game a character that nobody wants to play, that you hate, that you have dehumanized even more by playing 10 to 15 hours with Ellie. The "nice" thing about playing Abby is that you have to fight against your prejudices and accept that she too has a good side, just like Joel and Ellie. The authors don't want you to root for her but they want you to understand her and feel some empathy. I remember during my first game I felt terrible, I couldn't accept that Abby had a good side. To me she was a monster! Spending 10 hours with Abby made me realize that in the world of TLOU no character(or almost) is totally good or totally bad, it's just a matter of perspective.
The epilogue reformulate the whole story. It is not only a story of hatred, violence and revenge but also one of humanity, empathy and forgiveness.
The plot of TLOU2 is nothing original but original is the quality of the storytelling. That is why I cannot understand those who would like a different narrative structure, starting by playing with Abby or alternating between Ellie and Abby would not make sense and would make the story devoid of emotion and food for thought

Oh, she HAS to play Life is strange, the first part.
The last fight they have is so brutal its hard to watch. I hated Abby at first but by the time I finished it I completely understood her and her motivations. TBH the worst decision anyone makes is when Ellie goes after her at the end after Abby had let her go despite the fact Ellie killed all of her friends. Loved the game for sure, the hate is crazy.

The ending monologue is chef's kiss summed it up perfectly i don't understand the apparent hate the game gets maybe it's just a small minority being loud but i genuinely think if you cant see both sides and understand to message of the game is portraying maybe you are just not emotionally mature enough or maybe I'm being to harsh probably not people are crybaby's nowadays😂 but anyway amazing playthrough ill 100% be sticking around for future playthroughs. 🥰

Loved the game! I still cant understand why Ellie cut Abby down… i mean why not just leave the person you hunted for miles there to hang & go home. Jobs done.
She is conflicted she wants to kill abby but at same time she wants to do it on her own terms stabbing or leaving abby there is not enough because someone else put her there. but as soon as she does this abby goes to help lev.
She is given conflicting messages, abby is at her weakest and she cant demonize abby for anything anymore because abby doesnt even want to fight. She forces her to fight to hide whats really underneath. When she has her drowning is when she has to come to reality of what her journey was really about.... she knows abby has a right to be angry at him because she is also angry at him for the same but she is more so angry that abby took away her chance to fully forgive him...
