ahah, on to serious stuff there, Jake....that Craigellachie sounds great, i was very close to try the 41 yo under the counter at W.L.P. but finally coudn't come back to the stand to get it, so just tried the new 23, the 19 & some others...On the Dalmore 40 yo I'm not surprised, I did shock once Richard telling him "there's a bit too much sulphur on the nose, don't you think ?" (lol), not the same batch you had I'm sure (as I tried it a long time ago, Richard does no longer attend this show), the palate was good, but I tried some 1973 & 1974 vintages that did beat it imho & also a stunning 40 yo Jura I wasn't expecting to be so good, not being a fan of the 30 yo much. Glenglassaugh 50 yo I haven't tried but have good memories of a 40 yo decanter back in the days...Also that Glengoyne sounds terrific ! Slainte !
thanks for tuning in and getting involved Greg! The Craigey was seriously impressive but the Glenglassaugh took 1st for me. Such a shame that RP doesn't attend these shows anymore, it would be great to have him presenting the likes of this 40Y/O. Hope to see you at a show one of these days! sláinte
Guys! I was about to buy that Dalmore, but now maybe I'll go for a Craigellachie 13 instead...😂😅. You could tell the poor brand ambassador lady felt a bit ashamed saying the price out loud. Oh well, looks like you sampled some gread drams, that's what it's all about!
I love the idea of being able to try these, but am also torn - what if you spend £100+ on a dram and find, like the Dalmore, that it was... meh? Or possibly worse, you try it and it's the best whisky you've ever tried? But you know that short of a lottery win, you're never going to be able to afford a bottle, and unlikely to get to taste it again?
I’ve had both experiences and I have to say, I’ve never felt hard done by. If the dram is amazing, I’ve had the rare privilege to try something I wouldn’t otherwise be able to. And if it’s terrible, I haven’t wasted my money on a bottle! A dram of something old and rare is always worth a punt IMO
I love Glenglassaugh, but would never leave a whisky in a PX quarter cask for 50 years. Probably an orphaned cask that was never ready for bottling or lost in the warehouse over the bumpy ride the distillery has had over the last few decades.
The quarter cask was just for a finishing period. I 100% understand why you’d feel this way as I was concerned for the same reasons, however, it’s my favourite of this lineup and a seriously sensational dram
@TheWhiskyBaron I can only wish as I'm all the way on the opposite side of the globe in Australia. Hopefully, I can coordinate the next trip to UK to coincide with the show.
really dream drams. totaly unafordable for a bottle. a privilege to taste such whisky's. i'm looking forward to an smws old and rare tasing in december.
I don't know what it is about Craigallichie but I haven't had one I like yet. I'm sure this one is better than the 13 and 17 though. Dalmore has good spirit but they tend to water it down and drown the flavor. I bet that Glengoyne is like syrup. 😂
that's a shame. the 23 is a different style to the 13/17 so maybe worthwhile trying that next. the single casks are insane but not always easy to get. agreed with the Dalmore and you're not wrong with the Glengoyne
We paid for some of the dream drams and were lucky enough to have some poured for us - not everything we tried is included in this video. Even at the dram prices though, it’s still a serious treat. Sampling a ~£10k bottle of 50Y/O for £100 is insanely good value!
Awesome stuff. Love how Posh Spice stays true to himself with the Dalmore. That's what the Whisky Baron & Uncut is all about chief 👌🏻

Yes, Craigellachie. The others can gather an eternity of shop dust as far as I’m concerned.
😂 not what I was expecting from 3 whiskies over 35 years old, but strangely the Craigey has drawn the biggest crowd. The others weren’t bad though!
