The lawsuit in the UK could actually go through. Since being trans is an actual crime in Algeria, jk Rowling did the equivalent of accusing her of, like, fraud or armed robbery
@@incrediblehulk8031 If Imane Khelif is XY then JK Rowling believes "she" is representing herself as something "she" is not, at least for the purpose of participating in a combat sport where serious injury is always a possibility. This is compelled speech - where you must agree with someone's assertion no matter how untrue you find it to be.
If those lawyers knew what's good for them, they could go back to the discussions surrounding JK's anti-trans posts and contact every single trans individual who was threatened, bullied, or otherwise harassed and psychologically hurt through this discourse and make them a part of this lawsuits. Imagine a class action suite against Elon Musk for encouraging harassment against specific groups of people. Oh, how lovely it would be. I'm sure there are reasons this wouldn't work, but it's still nice to imagine.
Very doubtful the boxer will make this about Rowling being transphobic. More likely she will take Rowling to court for spreading misinformation which has damaged her reputation, ie. defamation. This would also assume that the boxer actually stands with trans people in general AND trans people participating in Olympic events, which also is a big assumption to make unless she has voiced this somewhere. But I'm so far unaware of such a statement. Edit: ie. defamation and harassment*
Under the reasonable belief that someone is a male, you can indeed point out that it is unfair and unsafe to allow said person to compete against women. When the person you have suggested is male chooses to use convoluted and unclear logic to assert they are a woman and chooses not to unequivocally demonstrate with a simple test they are in fact an XX female, then it is reasonable to assume your suspicions are correct and not withdraw your comments. None of that is "slander for no reason". (I would say it isn't slander but who knows with activist courts and judges these days.)
The Olympics are a method for countries to kind of flex their geopolitical image. So trying to pick a fight with an athlete isn't just the usual internet slapfight, people with real power are paying attention.
I'll repeat what I said when the first shoe dropped, The Italian Olympic boxer fight only lasting at 45 seconds before she got completely owned And then instead of conceding defeat like a normal human, would lash out in a crying temper tantrum and try to do a wild accusation about her opponent to not only distract from her loss but to attempt to convince others That losing wasn't because of her own ineptitude...is the best allegory for modern Italian politics I have ever seen.

It's interesting how transphobes target non white people specifically when they do this sort of thing. Their definition of femininity is highly white centered it seems.
Meanwhile Angela Carini, the Italian boxer who forfeited the match against her, thus starting the shitstorm, became a testimonial for the company responsible for the construction of the bridge on the Messina's Strait, a project considered impossible to do a lot of reason and yet they keep pursuing it thinking it'll be the next Golden Gate.
I saw the fight. It wasn't a beat down. it was three punches. Two to the face and one to the gut. Carini didn't keep her guard up. Two to the head and a gut punch (all FULL HITS. She couldn't even deflect part of it) She got her bell rung and went down. Happens all the time.
Libel/slander in the US when dealing with a public figure, which this boxer now is, carries with it the concept that you knowingly lied, not just that you said something untrue about a public figure but that you did so knowingly. Rowling may be in a tough spot in the UK but Musk being in the US wont face any repercussions, he will just claim he believed what he said was true. People that think a French civil suit will reach into the US are going to be highly disappointed. And even if it is a criminal case in France there would be no dual criminality, meaning even if it is considered a crime in France that same act would not be considered a crime in the US in this instance, and so that too would go nowhere.

Furthermore Musk, nor Rowling are defendants in this lawsuit, they are just named there. Additionally Khelif is not a French citizen, so it is likely to get dropped just on this basis, because alleged cyberbullying happened on X (US platform and US company).
Rowling’s mindless followers are still running around calling Imane Khelif a man. They think they’re defending their precious Joanne it would be so unfortunate if all those posts were recorded and as further evidence of her vicious libel.
I should clarify for those confused: The cases against Rowling, Musk and Paul are all going through French courts since the various parties named in the lawsuit are based in various places and so the central thread is the Paris Olympics.
I really hope the court agrees how dangerous their hate campaign was given that it very literally put Imane's life in danger. Realistically though I doubt she's gonna win against two people with practically infinite lawyer money
This lawsuit is a worthy fight. People who trash others because of gender ID are inexcusable. Which is something you should remember when you talk about the tyranny of cisgender people. Some of us (I like to think the majority) support the rights of others.
About the Italian woman part, I disagree for the fact that, ignoring the important part where she lacked respect for her adversary ( which in the situation she was it's one of the worst moral things to do ) and the general disdain for any sense of sportmanship, she pretty much used that situation to try and gain points with the Italian government. The lawsuit in the UK could actually go through. Since being trans is an actual crime in Algeria, jk Rowling did the equivalent of accusing her of, like, fraud or armed robbery
She called Imane "trans" or she called Imane "a male"? These are very different things.
@@robbinburns6329She was calling her something which she was not.
@@incrediblehulk8031 If Imane Khelif is XY then JK Rowling believes "she" is representing herself as something "she" is not, at least for the purpose of participating in a combat sport where serious injury is always a possibility. Oh, how lovely it would be.

Very doubtful the boxer will make this about Rowling being transphobic. More likely she will take Rowling to court for spreading misinformation which has damaged her reputation, ie. defamation. I guess not! Death of free speech!
I’m just kidding here. She just shut up JK Rowling. She’s the champ in my book.
I mean, _usually_ you can. This is very out of the ordinary.

So, essentially, she whined, appeared as a victim, then used that whining to become the lovely face of the Italian right.
Yeah, no. She may not be on the level of those who called her adversary a male and all the rest, but she ain't innocent.
