    Susan, I would gladly send some garter snakes to you if I could, then you wouldn't need to purchase the rubber ones! Garter snakes seem to love my backyard, but I don't mind because they eat a lot of insects. However, they can really jump-start my heart into overdrive when I'm busy planting and one suddenly slithers past me.
    Your garden beds are so well planned, and lots of love and hard work has gone into creating them. I can tell that both you and Bill are gardeners, and that's absolutely wonderful! ~Margie

      Thanks for the offer! We rarely see snakes here, which is a bit of a bummer because I know they do so much good. But I totally know what you mean about jumpstarting your heart because they blend in so well so you're never expecting to see them!

    I am super envious of your 27 raised beds! I have about a dozen and a raised bed enclosure for deer and groundhog proofing. Our back yard which gets the most sun is saved much to my chagrin 😂 for soccer playing for our grands and my DH. The areas where my raised beds are are surrounded by trees and cedars and it’s a constant battle for more sun! I’m in a zone 3 here and almost everything is planted already. I’ll cover the delicate plants if I have a frost warning but the season being so short and this spring being warm it seemed at risk worth taking. Thank you for the tour! I look forward to watching your other videos now.

    Thanks for sharing your garden tour. I enjoyed it! Always learn something from your knowledge. My peas are about 4 ft. tall now and I noticed a little green worm today. I never had bugs on my peas in the past. I don't know what it was so I just tossed it off. I'm growing a lot of the same things you have. Looking forward to your videos. We live in the same garden zone.

      @@SusansInTheGarden On my place on the prairie of Colorado... I deal with prairie rattlers and diamondback rattlers. We never reach under a heavily-leafed plant without checking carefully. We pay good money to the local kids for any live bull-snakes they find because bull-snakes chase rattlers away. All part of our science-of-safe-gardening out here on the high plains.
      BTW.... regarding the coyote mascot... I had a real one out in my vegetable garden this morning... do you want me to catch him and send him to you? They’re handy for caring moles and gophers and mice.

    Thanks for the great tour of your gardens and greenhouse, I really enjoy seeing your garden grow. We are having a dry spell here in WI and finding it difficult to get plants in the ground. I would love to have a water source out in the garden. It was a great pleasure listening to you on our local garden talk show last week with Larry Meiller. Lots of good information was shared on that show too. Happy Growing!

    Hi Susan. . . .
    I subscribed to your channel yesterday!
    So much great information.
    I wanted to ask you about a video you did a year ago. . . . Where did you purchase the hawk kite and did it work well ? Is it still up?
    Thank you!!!

      Hi, Debbie. We just use it during cherry harvest season. I bought the kite on Amazon. Here's more info about it and our other pest control methods: www.susansinthegarden.com/2019/07/organic-pest-control/

    How do you make your hoops for row covers.

    • @SusansInTheGarden
      @SusansInTheGarden  3 роки тому

      We have a few different types. Most were made many years ago from recycled 1/2" diameter drip tubing. We made some with black plastic poly sprinkler pipe and others with electrical metal tubing (EMT) by making our own pipe bender. Just so you know, I have DIY projects for making the poly pipe and EMT row cover hoops in my new book, The Vegetable Garden Pest Handbook. If you'd like a signed copy, just email me at Susan@SusansintheGarden.com.

    I enjoyed your tour. You make full use of drip irrigation and I have just installed it in my 8 4x8 beds. I have 2 questions :
    It seems that your drip lines in the beds are bigger than 1/4 dripper lines. Do you use 1/2 inch or is the picture deceiving me?
    How long do you water each bed. I have started at 15 minutes but I think I am a little light (1/2 GPH emitters in the line)
    Thanks

    • @SusansInTheGarden
      @SusansInTheGarden  3 роки тому

      Hi, Bill. The main drip lines are drip tape, which is different from 1/4" drip tubing. I think our garden's watering cycle currently runs for about 20 minutes. We will increase that when the temperatures get hotter.

    I am hardening off my tomatoes and peppers now. I thought that the process is for both the sun and cooler temps than in my house. Can the tomatoes and peppers do ok if I transplant them out in low 50s over night? I will be leaving them outside (undercover) for the last 4 nights of the hardening off process. Do they need more protection until the low temps rise?

    • @SusansInTheGarden
      @SusansInTheGarden  3 роки тому

      Hi, Sue. According to my research, 60 degrees F is the ideal minimum soil temperature (not air temp) for planting warm-season crops such as tomatoes and peppers. You might want to wait a bit longer, which I know is really hard to do!
