R.I.P. Ian Lavender, the last surviving cast member, who died a few days ago.
So sad....end of an era with his death.
Pike was not stupid. Leaving the broom head on the handle after tying the knife on makes sense - if you"e careful you can sweep up while on guard duty
RIP!
The stupid boy
Don't tell him, Pike. all good things must come to an end 😢
The best ensemble cast ever assembled for a TV comedy. All gone now.
Can we all take a moment to appreciate how beautifully crisp and clear this is visually?
In the Sudan, General Kitchener would always say, "BOYS!", he often called them boys, "BOYS, always have a cloth with you to wipe your eyes. That way you can see if the fuzzy wuzzies and whirling dervishes are approaching. Your eyes are like a crystal ball that will tell you the future - get your weapon out, fire, clear the chamber, fire again!"
Thus the phrase - crystal clear.
It was filmed with good quality film definitely, and worth it for this particular comedy.
Nothing special. Remastered film from that time can look wonderfully vibrant.
@@--legion well it is special and the remastering is what makes it special.
A great British show , its timeless, still watched today , even the main actor the late Arthur Lowe was surprised how popular the show was
my favourite TV show ever, just unbeatable.
Mine too 👌🏼
This original film was far far better than the new one that was made about 7 years ago..
The recent film is actually unwatchable. Even the new dads army series is pretty poor. I think they produced the series from lost episodes, but it never worked
Which is saying something, since neither the original cast, nor the writers cared much for the 70s movie. Which is a shame really, since they still gave solid performances.
All now dead, 21st Feb 2024, rest in peace, thank you for the entertainment, it is more than I have given. :)
A fantastic series with fantastic actors, god bless them all.
It was an unfunny racist series.
My father, a regular Army Officer, while waiting for a posting, was sent to train some LDV - Local Defence Volunteers - Dad's Army, and he said it was almost exactly like the TV series. Local men, too old or unfit for Service, who were indeed ready to die in defence of the nation. One unit hadn't received rifles and he had them drilling with broom handles..
@@terencejay8845 The UK had attacked Germany in 1939.
@@JamesRichards-mj9kw Declared war in 1939. Didn't actually attack them until 1940. Not sure what your point is.
@@terencejay8845 The RAF began bombing Germany on 3 September 1939, and the Royal Navy's illegal starvation blockade began on day one.
Pity we don't have Good Comedy like this any more..great actors and never beaten..The good old days of great Comedy..🇬🇧
Never really recovered from Perry/Croft's retirement. They were responsible for so many greats.
TV is obsolete, like printed news.
If its funny, it will always be remembered and be funny. Comedy writers seem to have forgotten that in recent years
Just being white is offensive nowadays. 😂 That was so offensive.
The infection of wokeness.
Exactly, that’s why shows like Monty Python’s Flying Circus and The Simpsons will always be remembered.
As for Dad’s Army…
Weirdo🙄👆🏻
@@thespamdance311A show that is still repeated and enjoyed by many to this day?
I took a tugboat from India to Madagascar, bicycled across the island and swam to Durban in South Africa, hitch-hiked up to Casablanca, and took a flight to London just to watch the last 10 minutes of the last episode. It was worth it.
Shame to do all that and find George Santos had done it first.
Great job Walter Mitty.
Here's an extra sausage in your rations.
A magnificent series!
This Trailer is the same age as me. In the first shot it goes in full on. I miss that in modern comedy. And don't tell them your name Pike! is possible one of the best moments in comedy history.
...but that line was borrowed from another comedy routine many years before the 'Pike' version. I have actually seen it on yt somewhere.
Perfect comfort viewing on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Timeless classic comedy with a perfect cast.
Originally screened on a Wednesday evening according to Wki?
Quite simply the best
Ian Lavender, when the series 1st started with his fellow actors he called them the magnificent seven, and that’s what they really were?
Dad’s Army was a cult classic tv series. I watch an episode each day.
“..you stupid boy..”
cult classic - obscure or unpopular with a mainstream audience, just a classic series
Do you think that's wise, Sir ?
@@helloxyz I think you're getting into the realms of fantasy again.
Don’t tell em Pike! Fuzzie wuzzies! We’re doomed! Turn that light off 😅
@@londongirl1733 They don't like it up 'em!
The film of my youth, epic!
Tv & Radio series!
I took the bus to another town to see this in 1971. I took my two younger siblings - I was 11.
You are therefore ten years older than me, as I was just a year old at the time!
I was a mere infant of a year old at the time, so didn't see the film until a few years later!
I remember watching the whole original dad's army movie on UA-cam in the early 2010's. Unfortunately it was deleted sometime after that.
It's still copyright.
Great writing, directing, costumes and great acting. You have all done very well. God bless you all.
Fanstatic show. Brilliant actors. still not seen every episode yet.
This is the best thing I’ve ever seen
I LOVED DAD'S ARMY SERIES, AS THE LAUGHTER THAT IT GAVE ME WAS PRICELESS, AS THEY DO NOT MAKE COMEDY LIKE THIS ANYMORE ON TV, WHICH IS A GREAT SHAME.
STOP shouting
@@fasthracingHmm. Dunno. That's worth shouting about.😂
PUT THAT LIGHT OUT!!
"What is your name"....... don't tell him pike.......😅
A beautiful series beautifully written
Extremely funny sitcom. Bet the old boys had a great time filming it.
There will never be anything like this again. Also, it's timeless.
Absolute classic comedy, far superior to the unfunny trash today
The modern remake was like the local amateur dramatic society having a go.
In their defence the new film didn’t try to replicate the original 1-1 as they knew each character was unique. It was more of a dads army inspired film than an attempt at the original
@@Duffy997 Shouldn't have bothered.
@@Duffy997With a lot of forced in feminist claptrap...
Revealing Mrs Mainwaring was itself a major faux par.
Arguably the greatest sitcom ever. And I’ll throw Peep Show into the mix. Sustaining that level of excellence over 9 series. Magnificent.
It was unfunny and racist.
@@JamesRichards-mj9kw What, Peep Show?
I grew up watching repeats of the show in the 1980s and 90s. It is brilliant. This film is also very good - a group of inept men who at the end come together and show such bravery, valour, courage and self sacrifice is extremely moving to watch....they were amazingly talented and funny men and it is sad to think they are all no more now....but they are immortal because of this programme and film....I've often felt Ian Lavender in particular had one of the best jobs as the youngest member of the cast to work alongside such wonderful talented older men as this....what a time to be alive....one thing I will say, the morality the programme portrayed is something lacking in Britain today - and that is equally sad. I really like this film. The new versions are utterly abysmal. There shall only ever be one Dads Army cast and their big screen outing. Also, isn't it interesting how any BBC sitcom that was turned into a feature film never made any mention of its link to the BBC back then....I guess back then the BBC really did try to downplay its 'lack of commercialism'....
Probably the best film version of 70s comedies.
Porridge was pretty good.
Every single one now gone
RIP Private Stupid Boy Pike!
And to think they wasted time doing a new film with a new cast, to what end I dont know when they already did a film with the original cast.
Brilliant the lot of them - but how perfect in the role was Arthur Low
Classic 👌
“What’s your name?” “Don’t tell him Pike!”
No need to watch the movie as this trailer shows most of the funny bits!
My dad took me to see it shortly after its release it was part of a double bill along with carry on Sargent.
They had a homeland worth defending!
Unlike today!
🎯
Tons of laughs in the first half an hour of this film, then it loses its way.
The series is rightly regarded as a classic but this movie and the recent new version are both dire.
Genius!
unbeatable
If that's not Brian Blessed doing the voice over it's a sound-a-like!
British comedy at its best 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Am I allowed to say that 🇬🇧🇬🇧 PC
Yes. Don’t be pathetic.
British comedy is the best.
@@nkt1 , hey, less of the name-calling! There are some facts that get deleted on this channel for no other reason that someone, somewhere ( who wasnt born here) MAY be offended!
Little did we know what was ahead.
Is there really a movie version? When was it out? In what countries was it showed?
The production values of the feature film are great compared to the TV series.
Classic
well that brought a tear to my eye.... but i laughed as well.
Halarious
Not to be overly pedantic, but WW2 couldn't really have cried out for "another Churchill", because it already had one.
He wasn't PM when this was set.
I thought that the film was not as good as the tv series.
I agree. I don’t think Norcon Productions quite understood the original TV programmes they brought to the big screen. Perry & Croft may have written the script but production values were insisted upon which spoiled the overall result. My guess is that Columbia played a part but……….??
@@ianrobinson6788 Although there were some funny parts, the platoon was portrayed as being totally incompetent, where as the tv series focused on the amusing antics of their actions. In the film Sgt. Wilson has breakfast and fails to wake up Capt. Mainwaring, in the tv series the entire platoon were loyal to one another. Just my thoughts
Apparently both the cast and writers felt the same.
Brilliant 😂
In truth, laughs aside
The 'proper' Home guard would have fought!. Great show!. Nuff said.
So they just took from the show to do the movie
Pretty much. The movie is mostly based on scenes/episodes from the TV show. But that's what you did then. It was pre-internet, pre-DVD and pre-VHS. So the TV episodes the movie was based on, nobody had seen them for 2-3 years. Why not re-use them for a movie?
@@peterowen9183 was there any point in the more recent re make with Michael Gambon and Catherine Zeta Jones? I don't think there was. Some things cant be copied or improved on, you can only laugh at something for so long..I didn't find any humour in it either
Sadly Dads Army LOST their greatest battle - to stop Frank’s mum (Janet Davis) being replaced by Liz Fraser for the movie. I think the cast should have refused to make the movie without the regular ‘Mavis’.
George Washington?? 😅
Get the script correct, if you want to be taken seriously😢
Fortunately the series was a lot better than the trailer.
This'll make people wanna join the British army 😂
I saw it ,a little disappointing but hey ho ,what is good as the tv series
Ye shudda fought against the real enemy of the British Empire:The USA.
The only threat was from Communism.
classic lol
Hair styles Fake.
English shows have degenerated into boredom. Mostly. Peep Show was OK.
The TV series was excellent, but this film was awful.
An unfunny racist series that could never be made now.
Racist against who? The Germans? There was a war for survival and if the allies had lost you would be writing your comments in German.
Name some TV series that you like.
How dense do you have to be to not realise that when someone says the word “fuzzy wuzzy” on the telly, it’s that person and their attitudes that are the object of fun, not the people to whom they are referring? Imbecile. I’ll bet you thought Fawlty Towers was a recruiting tool for the BNP too, didn’t you? Not just laughing at the senile out-of-touch attitudes as represented by the Major? Satire is “the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices”. Lost on you, it would seem.
racist series ? please do explain your reason behind that remark
@@INCDZONE He's probably referring to Lance Corporal Jones saying that the " Fuzzy Wuzzies don't like it up 'em " , but that's a bit of a stretch calling it racism .
