The Netherlands are here! Let me know your thoughts below 👇🏼 (As an aside, I have misspoke in this video and have Netherlands in 1st and France in 2nd, this will be corrected on Monday, aka Frances video, apologies!)
@@zMarsIsCool I've actually misspoke in this one and I have Netherlands 1st. This was meant to be said when I talked about potential overconfidence from a good group showing. Although I still agree they are going to be knocked out in the last 16!
I'm a bit confused. You say the Netherlands are a weak team in a weak group but the Netherlands are in the FIFA top 10 and I do believe that France are as well. Wouldn't that make them a strong team in a strong group? So if they finish first, which is unlikely but possible, they will likely face off against Turkey, Czechia or Georgia and if they finish second, they will likely face off against Slovakia, Romania or Ukraine. Isn't a win against any of those teams at least as likely as a loss?
@@leonfeargus Yep, all I can do is apologise really, as I've messed up how I've explained it. Let me clarify. I think the Netherlands are pretty weak. They are lacking an in form goalscorer. Depay, Gakpo and Weghorst aren't in fine form. De Jong missing makes the midfield weaker. I fear a little for van Dijk's fitness given a very full on season for Liverpool too. If you disagree, fair enough, I can see the arguments to the contrary such as them being top 10 in the FIFA WR like you say. This is just my opinion. In spite of this though, I think they beat both Austria and Poland, as I don't rate either of those nations highly. I think France do the same. In the game between them, I see a draw despite me thinking France are better, just because they tend to take a group match off, especially under Deschamps. In regards to last 16 match, I'm fancying Czechia to be the surprise of the tournament and I think they will knock Netherlands out. Sorry for the confusion, it is my bad. I hope you understand my thoughts now even if you disagree!
Thanks for making this video! The quality of this years Oranje is in the width it seems to me. For example the midfield can be replaced by the engine room of PSV, should we start with guys like de jong, Reijnders, koopmeiners. Malen can be a super sub should he not start. Koeman is doing a great job in preparing two ways of playing in terms of formations. It’s much time we start beating top countries though. Last time we beat one, it was Belgium under van gaal back in the 2022 summer (2 times, nations league). Suffered losses against Argentina France Croatia Italy and Germany since..
I have high hopes for the Netherlands, I think they are a sleeper team. That being said, I think they will struggle against elite opposition because they don’t have an elite striker, and Wout Weghost, is the only out and out number 9. On the other hand though, they have arguably the best defense on paper, a great midfield, a good mix of youth and experience as well as a ton of players in form.
After the past 2 games I also think they might become the best team of the tournament. They have been looking as the best team, especially with star midfielder de jong (also Europa leaugue winner Koopmeiners) dropping out, because of injury. It is looking a bunch of “good” players (not worldclass) becoming a worldclass “team”.
Netherlands has a great chance to win this time. Most of players are in form. Great defense if you ask. Defense wins you titles. This time they got van de van too. Experience and youth mix. Feels Xavi Simons will be a emerging young player
I think the Netherlands are always dark horses for these tournaments. Talent wise I honestly think only England France and Germany are ahead of them. I can see them making the semis.
@@manuelfelicio7856 Portugal and Spain I think talent wise are comparable to the Netherlands I really think only the original teams I mentioned are definitively more talented.
@@JuniorJuni070 what exactly is your point Germany has beaten France in the last year. Since you seem so knowledgeable about shit who in terms of raw talent is outdoing France, Germany and England??
Great video Into the Fray however Probably changing manager before the tournament ? Where did you get that from. The Netherlands have never done that and will not do so now two weeks before the Euro's start. The reason Van Dijk almost never played for the youth teams was because he was originally a striker. Only after switching to CB did he get noticed. Frenkie is injured so I am not sure if his fitness perse is an issue. And Koeman has never stated that he will play 1-4-3-3 instead he has a couple of formation options on the pitch and practiced The 1-3-5-2 being one just as 1-4-3-3 and even 1-4-2-3-1 given the players available. Thanks for your series great seeing them.
We have some great talents like Tijani Reijnders, Joey Veerman, Micky van de Ven and Xavi Simons. But I'm not impressed by our coach. He did well in 2018 in the Nations League. We beat Germany and France then. Koeman was national coach then too. But our playing style isn't very distinguishable. Koeman isn't a tactical genius. Our goalkeepers are somewhat talented, but none of them really stands out. But hopefully Bart Verbruggen can up his game this european championship. Some people say we have to play defensively because we lack top quality forwards, but I don't think that makes any sense. In 2014 we lacked top quality defenders and for that reason we played 5-3-2 most of the time. Now we have defenders that are world class and who are fast enough to correct any mistakes (Van de Ven and Van Dijk are some of the fastest defenders in the world). I'd love to see Gakpo, Memphis and Simons as our forwards. Unfortunately Ian Maatsen hasn't been selected for the euros. My team: Verbruggen - Van de Ven, Van Dijk, De Ligt, Geertruida - Frenkie de Jong, Schouten, Reijnders - Gakpo, Memphis, Simons.
You do have great talents, I'm excited to see how they get on in their first real taste of tournament football. I think the reason I'm so down on the Netherlands is largely due to Koeman. And the amount of young (23 years or younger) Dutch players with a transfer fee of over 40 million that are now on the target list of major clubs is astonishing. Even Zirkee, only allowed to join the group after people had to leave after injuries, is heavily targeted by Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea, AC Milan, Juventus, etc, yet he would have to cost 55 million (40 million for the club, 15 million for the agent), and they left him home initially... that should tell you something. Attack is not bad at all clown. Just because they don't have an attacker that stands out like Kane or Lewandowski, doesn't mean their attack is weak, quite the opposite, it's quite good, just not excellent. You seem to forget that Depay is almost top scorer of the Dutch nation team, he only needs 5 more goals to equalize with Van Persie, he also scored in the last 2 matches, and gave assists.
As a Dutchman I must agree. This is a weak team, especially if Frenkie de Jong is injured and Memphis has just come back from an injury. Maybe Xavi Simons can finally shine (because so far he hasn't). But then, anything is possible. Midfielders Reijnders, Koopmeiners and Veldman have had a great season so far and at the World Cup in 2014 we didn't expect much from our national team, but we beat Spain in our first match (5-1) and became third, beating Brazil in our last match.
Sub Wijnaldum for De Jong and then have him switch places with Koopmeiners. Then move Van Dijk left and De Ligt right and you are probably the commentator who actually got closest to what our first 11 was going to be before the injuries. So really commend you for that as saw a lot of badly informed takes online. Lots starting with Weghorst for the memes for instance. (Even if he was key in Utd getting third and Rashford scoring so many goals). Now with the injuries Koopmeiners becomes Schouten and Wijnaldum becomes Veerman in your set up. I recommend watching the Iceland game as Koeman did some interesting things tactically. More passes behind the back line and formation wise a 3 4 3 diamond or box in attack and 4 4 2 in defense. If we make the knock outs as second we get Ukraine or Romania most likely. Those we will beat. Portugal in the quarters is the big hump as they are our bogey nation since for ever.
