I started collecting back in '74 while in grade school. My mom gave me $1 each day which would get me a milk and a pretzel. I instead went to the drug store across the street and bought $1 worth of penny gum. I'd then go back to school and sell it for $1.05. What's so great about making 5 cents profit? Back then cards cost $0.15 a pack. So by selling the gum for only 5 cents profit allowed me to get 7 packs of Topps every day. Being a Phillies fan, I know for a fact that I had at one time over 100 of the Schmidt cards. There was no competition back then - no Donruss, no Fleer or Upper Deck and certainly no Panini. I bought 7 packs a day every day thru my school years up until '78 - when I started really noticing girls, but that's another story. We didn't have 400, 1000, whatever-count boxes back then. I kept all of my cards in order and put them in large brown-paper supermarket bags. By '78, i had 22 bags - each holding about 5000 cards from '74-'78. Mom tossed them one day when I was starting to go to high school and no longer cared about them. Yep those stories you all hear actually happened.
I bought my first box of cards in 18 years because of your videos. Thank you, sir, for reminding me of how fun it can be. It's also awesome to see that someone (David) enjoys your channel and your passion so much that they are willing to donate you such a valuable collection so that your viewers can enjoy some amazing cards. Two thumbs way up, guys!!
Watching you opening those packs was so entertaining. Opening one outstanding pack after another. That is quite some collection. The generosity of the donor is amazing. I want to personally thank you for your generosity.
This series of the David M collection has been so entertaining and educational. Your knowledge of baseball cards is phenomenal ! Knowing the year and producer of cards with just a glimmer of a portion of a card is so impressive !
In recent years I've gone away from card collecting and now go for autographed pictures, baseballs, etc. Seeing some of these cards really brings the excitement and nostalgia back from my old collecting days. Especially seeing that 89 Upper Deck Griffey!
Nice video Erik. God bless Dave for gifting you these awesome cards. Love the HR leader card of Ruth, Aaron & Mays. One of my favorites growing up!!! When I was 10 my dad gave me a box of 75 Topps rack packs for my birthday. I must have pulled 3 each of the Brett & Yount RC's. Obviously I had no idea back then what I had when I was flipping them & playing colors with friends. Anyhow, 2 of the 6 are still in pack fresh mint condition. Love your knowledge of the hobby & the players. Keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing!
These unboxings are FANTASTIC!! David really did an amazing job putting these together! The MVR concept is awesome - gives great variety to the unboxing!!
You got a good thing going Jabs! Can’t believe people send you such great cards. Wow! You were just sent a better collection than mine, by far, for free! Congrats man!
I just want to say thank you. I found your videos and it got me to go through all of my cards from when I was a kid in the late 80s and early 90s. At this point I have rediscovered the hobby and can’t get enough. Even if I am most interested in that era of cards where the value is only really sentimental. Thanks again.
Love the UA-cam channel videos that you do. You have some great people/paytrons with huge hearts and unselfish souls. Those folks, they know who they are, are an inspiration for us all. God bless you all for your generosity and spirit.
Great cards! I wonder if he donated his collection because he didn't know anyone who would appreciate it. I know my family doesn't have any interest in cards. Really cool that you inspire so many to join or return to the hobby!
Love watching each pack and seeing so many cards I'd love to have. 60s and 70s. Early 70s stars, so wish I could afford those. Went to a show this morning and have felt bad all day that I think I can't afford this hobby anymore....or I have to stop wanting the cards I love from before 1975! Thank you for sharing your great fortunes!
These packs are insane. 2 George Brett rookies. All those 65 topps and to finish it off the Billy Ripken “error” card. Can’t wait for the next video in the series.
Wow, a lot of the cards are even better than ones you find in box openings..... really love these! Fisk/Brett/Winfield rookies, '59 Roger Maris, GRIFFEY JR. '89 Upper Deck rookie, COME ON, OMG...... These are just SICK good :O Must be loaded to donate those kind of cards!! Thank you, David! (And Erik, too, obviously).
