I mean anything is possible with mods, but you know it’s not that simple for OEMs. An OEM quality fit that retains all crash structures, maintains a hood design that passes pedestrian impact standards, has OEM quality cooling, and doing all that without compromising other parts of the car, that’s a lot harder and that could be why it won’t fit *properly*. That’s my interpretation. Same reason Subaru/Toyota couldn’t fit the WRX motor in the BRZ from an OEM quality standpoint, even though people made it fit in the aftermarket.
Independent shops can do anything and everything better than the automakers. Wasn't Dodge the one who also said they couldn't put a manual transmission in the LX platform Chargers, but independent shops made it work with no problem. Dodge just has excuses out of the wazoo these days.

The fact that they know it doesn't, means there was atleast some experimenting going on. I know the engineers told Car and Driver that the 5.7 does fit.
Wunderbar! Finally a brand new Episode of the Matt Maran Friday Night Car News Show - with some fresh Topics again. Wishing everybody here a great day and a fantastic weekend ahead. Enjoy the News and your free time!
I thought it was Wednesday until your news video popped up. For a second I thought you changed it to possibly two news videos a week until I checked out the date and today is Friday. Thanks Matt for the news! Have a good weekend.
During a recent livestream, you mentioned the poor performance of these videos leading to some reconsideration of this type of content. Quite frankly, this weekly video is likely my most anticipated video of the week. All the weekly automotive news wrapped into a neat half hour video with nice visuals. Keep up the great work Matt!
My favorite news story for the week: 2025 Miata pricing announced. Base Sport model went up $300. 1%. Still under $30k before destination, still easy to get invoice pricing on. The affordable roadster continues staying very affordable. Is the Mini Cooper vert and perhaps 2-door Wrangler the only other convertible available under $40,000 in the US at this point?
Jaguar CCO “Jaguar has no desire to please everyone” the amount of conceit and pretentiousness in that statement is astounding for a dying car brand. Especially when you are standing in front of that hideous thing
My good friend’s dad is an executive with Beverly Hills Rolls Royce. I’ve asked him if the brand would ever consider a model below the Ghost, with a lower price point. His response was that “common” people wouldn’t appreciate the model, and most likely not take care of the vehicle, thereby “soiling” the brand’s image. ……That’s up there in pretentiousness too I think!! 🤷🏼♂️😂
It seems like a reasonable statement for a limited production exclusive brand to say. If Ferrari, Maybach, Rolls Royce, or Bentley said the same, I wouldn’t be surprised. It is not a blue collar Everyman brand. They’re open about that.
Yeah, I’m not really buying it. Maybe it’s a challenge to builders. People have put Hellcats in 350Zs, Miatas, Prius but it won’t fit in the new Charger??? We’ll see about that.
The supercharger makes the engine very tall so it probably just doesn't fit under the hood. The Hemis are pushrod engines so they are very compact. The naturally aspirated ones very likely fit.
Yeah I heard it was designed with enough space under the hood so a Hemi crate engine will bolt in, probably needs a new hood (intake manifold) and headers (turbo exhaust manifold) to actually fit. Wouldn't be surprised if the EPA was behind them saying it's not a direct bolt in.
I've seen miatas with v8's jammed into them, I'm calling BS on a Charger not accommodating a Hellcat motor. Maybe the supercharger won't fit, but they didn't rule out a 392.
Not do fast Matt, they arent going to tell you that at a press event. They have been testing a couple of V8 options in MX for the past 3 weeks now and they had to move the strut towers to make one of the original V8s to fit. The unnamed V8 is supposedly one that Kuniskis was working on before he left Stellantis.
Comment on 3 subjects. 1) Dodge Charger. The EV version is rather heavy. Let's hope the Hurricane in line six is at least 1000 LBS lighter. 2) Amazing that CEO Tavares who worked with Nissan in the US for years really failed to understand the US market. What may have worked in Europe for Renault does not mean it will work in the US. Let's hope better product and more reasonable prices for Dodge, Ram and perhaps Chrysler product. 3). Clearly to me the blue and pink colors for the Jag concept are denoting male and female potential buyers. The Concept front end reminds me of a modern take on the American Locomotive. The rear reminds me of a coolant grill. The overall shape is not bad otherwise. The good news is that this is a concept and not the production version. It's a high-end product EV so I don't really care.
Although I’m not particularly enthusiastic about the new direction Jag is pursuing, I’m somewhat honored that they chose Miami, my hometown, to unveil the concept.
Both the Sonata and the Elantra are at the end of their life cycles. Sonata should definitely be ready for their redesign and be an even better than ever car. Sonata can get its first N model for its next generation. Elantra is on its final model year now. More importantly, the Elantra N is at the end of its life cycle after the 2025 model year because the 2.0T engine will be phased out from the engine lineup altogether as it is the last car to have it and will upgrade to the 2.5T engine for the next generation Elantra N which will make the next gen Elantra N even better and hotter than the current gen version. Calendar year 2025 is going to be a great year for Hyundai with 2026-2030 model year Sonata and Elantra vehicles.
Rotaries are coming back -- SO F---ING WHAT? It's only going to be a range extender. You will not be able to experience the power delivery of a rotary, you will not be able to hear the tone change as it revs up as you press the accelerator. You will probably not be able to hear the engine at all. And you sure as hell will not get any exhaust sound to speak of. So does it make a difference whether that range extender is a rotary or anything else???
*Jag is cooked 🤣 the wealthy people who purchase Jags does not want that fruity/zesty BS. RIP Jag but it is what it is, plenty of normal, non-creepy car companies out there.*
200 miles of range in 15 minutes is the least impressive thing I've ever heard. That's 15 minutes in the most efficient charge window. When this comes out it will be utterly mediocre.
I REMEMBER when Dodge said V8 won't in a Jeep Wrangler, then started saying "oh, a 5.7L might work" and now we got a 392 Wrangler without hacking up anything. Also there are hellcat swapped Wranglers running around here from shops with UA-cam channels. Simply, I don't believe ANY stellantis engineers about what won't fit and just gave UA-cam content creators new material in 2025 with sema builds.
The assumption is that electric doesn't have gears... but combustion engines didn't have gears to start with either. By adding gears, you just have smaller motors.. which was exactly how the progression of ICE went.
Jaguar got a lot of heat for this wild new take on design and direction. Personally, I dig it! It’s cool, it’s edgy and it’s bold. The purist will hate it, but the purist dont care about sales as much, look I get it, being a purist myself. But if this helps save Jaguar and sells more cars, Im here for it. I did wish they kept some of their racing traditions in their design, but again, I get it. A lot riding on this new direction.
The rotors means nothing if they aren't driving the wheels. I love the look of the SP, but will probably end up getting an MX-5 before Mazda ditches the sports car formula they have perfected over the years. Such a shame.
That car is huge! I’m sure someone will fit it. I think they’re saying that because they just want to use the six. Jaguar is lost , the zero zero looks like it took zero time to draw. Looks more like something from Bentley.
The new Jaguar looks at least good from the side. The front and rear is boring. It is also nothing new, it is just Artdeco Design with a modern touch (I am biased here as I don't like Artdeco in Architecture, Furniture, Lights or whatever is done with it). Mercedes had a car like this in 2016 -called the Maybach 6 - which was a less edgy concept of the same idea. The details on that have been much better but still ... Artdeco ....
Hopefully the Sanota sales improvement teaches makers that consumers buy more of their products when they aren’t so ugly that drivers have to avert their eyes until they’re behind the wheel. Just think what the Tucson and Elantra could do if Hyundai took the origami creases out of the side metal.
Efficiency and durability be damned give me a nostalgia engine to power my range extending generator. Heck, give me a pickup truck model that uses a steam engine.
Matt if you had to pick one vehicle that scratched the enthusiasts itch, you could daily drive and take on a couple of road trips per year. What would you pick?
I think Dodge should've retired both the Charger and Challenger name plates and revived the Stelth with this new L6 cus trying to sale a Charger with one of these would be hard and almost impossible considering most associate this car with a V8
You're right they won't be doing that but they will be putting a 5.7 l hemi 4.7 Magnum engine dual overhead cam V8 variable valve twin turbo a 3.9 l Ferrari architecture V8 from the California reason being is John elkin is also sits on the board of directors of Ferrari and you want to find out sources go to TK's garage go to butter The insider brings receipts go to dizzle in motion who brings the receipts and go to OC motivator who brings receipts
DODGE, make the Charger with AWD & the Hellcat Engine and Ill buy it The only thing cool about the 2025 Charger is the AWD. Not the EV or Hurricane 😎👍💪
If a hellcat can be crammed in a 350z/370z then it absolutely will fit in the new charger. Just gotta put effort in Edit: good riddance to Carlos Tavares, you wont be missed
The ULTRA rich are different. They want something different from the “common” person. The new Jag will sell in low numbers (hell, they should sell it for $300K), it’ll sell in Beverly Hills, Palm Beach, and the Hamptons. The hateful comments remind me of some rube in a Flyover state saying his 4 year old could “throw paint” at a canvas and it would look just like a masterpiece. ……People in Flyover states, and rural, “Honey boo-boo” areas just don’t get it!! 🤷🏼♂️🤔😂😎🥂
As a former Mazda fan, I'm extremely saddened to hear that they're wasting their time and MONEY (which they don't have a ton of and never have) on a rotary engine. How many times do they need to get kicked in the face with that failed technology before they move on?
With Dodge's financial issues, they might be trying to simplify to save short-term costs. Dodge can always resurrect an old car like the Magnum and drop v8 in it.
If I buy a performance car I want a performance sound. Vee Eight. No substitutes. "I" am the demographic they want; older, retired, cash to burn. We must be invisible. We must not have friends of the same opinion. Sheesh.
I would like to throw my hat in the ring for the new Stellantis CEO position. My resume includes - Not f***ing up everything I touch. [Full Stop] Lastly, I hope you enjoyed your time here in Phoenix, Arizona recently. We could have had sooo much fun brother! Maybe next time... It must be hard going from our warm(er) weather back to the frigid climate of PA. FWIW, we are experiencing roughly 20-30°F temperature swings every day. Our seasons went from Summer, completely skipped over Fall and _now_ we are finally heading into our Winter. Nevertheless, I greatly appreciate these Weekly Updates, Matt. You never cease to amaze me with your dedication to the channel and the car community. Stay classy my friend. Side Note - My resources tell me that a few buyers have proposed some offers to purchase the Stellantis Proving Grounds here in Arizona. I did not get any names, but I will keep my ear to the ground. [Hat tip]
I think the new Chargers suspension towers are too narrow to fit a V8 and may be getting a redesign to widen them. This would make sense, being the huge front tire on the front of performance models would cause towers to be pushed in for turning clearance.
I call bs on the hellcat engine not fitting into the Charger, they probably want to keep it a surprise if they do plan it. The hood is quite long on the new charger
Sadly, it can't. As an EV/gas hybrid t will be twice the price but it likely won't last long. It will be the same problem of the RX8 with owners not understanding the need to constantly add oil. Not expecting many people to buy a "Miata" for over 50 grand.
@@Jag-leaperthey have bragged about how much wider the new charger is. Not only that, you can literally look up engine bay pics of the 6 cylinder. It’s extremely wide and long
@@bradenmchenry995 that's extremely far from proof. That blown V8 is pretty wide and pretty tall. It not fitting without substantial chassis modifications or a Vin Diesel hood is believable.
Jaguar going after the artsy fartsy group but bringing out a 4 door seems pretty counterintuitive. But I'm sure Jaguar knows exactly what they're doing like Nissan and Stellantis
And of note, they had to make very substantial modifications to the JL Wrangler to pull off that 6.4L in there. Which is expensive and harder to economically put on the production line. Hence the sky high MSRPs for the 392 Wranglers. Sure. They could maybe rework this new platform heavily to pull off the Hellcat motor. And then try to sell it for $150,000
Hellcat engine may not come, but a V8 os coming in a few words, mark my word....but it most likely won't be that motor like you said. They have quite a few V8s in their arsenal. Even some really small ones.
I 100% guarantee people will find totaled out Charger EV's and find a way to stuff in a Hellcat drivetrain, if for no other reason than to give Stelantis the middle finger lol
Honestly, I don’t see the utility in buying a new Charger even IF it had a Hellcat engine. Why not just buy a previous gen Hellcat which is better looking and exponentially less expensive?
They're talking to some guy I believe his name is Alfredo something European guy who revitalized Jeep in Europe they're talking to a Ralph gills and they're talking to Tim kuniskis to come back but Tim has a great offer at another company whether he wants to give up that offer they better give him a boatload of cash for doing them wrong nothing says I'm sorry like money 💰💰 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰 💰
As someone who stuffed a 4 Cam V8 Tundra engine into a '74 Celica, I call BS a hellcat engine won't fit in that land yacht of a car.

I bet the 2JZ will fit in the new charger. It'll be like Tokyo Drift when they put the RB26 in the Mustang

Lastly, I hope you enjoyed your time here in Phoenix, Arizona recently.
[Hat tip]
I honestly like the direction Jag is going.
That Mazda concept puts the JaGuar to shame
I call the lack of Charger V8 rubbish
That double rotary nit being for straight power output is bullshit. 😂
I think the new Chargers suspension towers are too narrow to fit a V8 and may be getting a redesign to widen them. This would make sense, being the huge front tire on the front of performance models would cause towers to be pushed in for turning clearance.
I'm just happy that they still plan to make the EV Charger at all. Hopefully they return production to the USA and avoid the tariff.
The real question is the new charger gonna have actually good security? As for the last story glad sedans are doing well
I call bs on the hellcat engine not fitting into the Charger, they probably want to keep it a surprise if they do plan it. The hood is quite long on the new charger
Hope the ew "RX" compete againt GR86/BRZ in terms of price and power
Sadly, it can't. As an EV/gas hybrid t will be twice the price but it likely won't last long. It will be the same problem of the RX8 with owners not understanding the need to constantly add oil. Not expecting many people to buy a "Miata" for over 50 grand.
Dodge is straight up lying about the hellcat motor not fitting. That motor will easily fit in the engine bay. With room to spare
How do you know? Are you on the engineering team?
@@Jag-leaperthey have bragged about how much wider the new charger is. Not only that, you can literally look up engine bay pics of the 6 cylinder. It’s extremely wide and long
@@bradenmchenry995 that's extremely far from proof. That blown V8 is pretty wide and pretty tall. It not fitting without substantial chassis modifications or a Vin Diesel hood is believable.
Source: trust me, bro.
@@tim3172 exactly 💯 ...nothing to see here
Great that it doesn't fit! I hope Dodge raises the price on those new bucks.
Jaguar going after the artsy fartsy group but bringing out a 4 door seems pretty counterintuitive.
But I'm sure Jaguar knows exactly what they're doing like Nissan and Stellantis
They also said a v8 would not fit in a jeep wrangler either. Trust me if they can get enough money for it they will make it.
1st!!
People still do this? 🤷🏽
Who is this new Dodge brand for? Not the old crew that loved the outgoing challenger and charger.
Glad to hear Tim will continue working! Looking forward to seeing where he ends up.
