    Thanks so much for a great video. With utility companies not wanting to send meter readers into buildings even with secluded meter rooms its good to be able to get your own accurate reading to compare to their estimated reading.
    Much appreciated 👍

    Question: Why do you read the analog dials from left to right, if you're going to write them down from right to left?

    What does it mean for a dial to have "passed zero"? Does this mean between 0 and 1 or does it mean between 0 and 9 or either?

      If it’s passed 0, that means it’s 10 from what I understand.

    Nice video, pity that the animation is not accurate as the unit pointer makes nearly two revolutions and the tens pointer only shifts one segment.
    It could create confusion with customers.

      ha.... we used to save $1. on Long Island. with PSEG. where electricty is .07c/kwh but the "power supply charge" is 30c/kwh . So really our rate is .37/kwh. Thanks for nothing. they can keep the dollar. they obviously need it more than us!

      @@Kristinapedia Do you all still have the meters like these? (With the dials). Because here in Indiana, they were switched out with "smart meters". Which, consequently, out me out of a job a few years back. Technology is great, but it really hurts to be made unemployed in the end. I do have a new job, but I really miss that job. I loved being outdoors and around people. You didn't have the boss man/lady breathing down your neck 24/7. But, anyways, I was just interested in knowing what types of meters are being used elsewhere.

    • @Kristinapedia
      @Kristinapedia 5 років тому

      B Humphries yes I’d say about half of Long Island has the old dial meters. Some have digital I think. I don’t think we have smart meters.
      I wouldn’t want those because then out rates would go up higher. We’re already one of the most expensive places for electric in the country.

    How do you use these numbers to understand how much energy is produced by solar panels? My meter read 1389 on when I started producing electricity but now it reads 98792. Wondering how to figure out how much I produced. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    The explanation of kilowatts and kilowatt-hours (at ~0:25) is wrong. If you use 1 kilowatt FOR an hour (e.g. you have an electric heater running which uses 1 kilowatt while it is running, and you run it for 1 hour), then you have used 1 kilowatt-hour. To say "1000 watts used in an hour = 1 kilowatt hour" is confusing at best. (and the spoken words here: "watts used per hour", and "every time you use a thousand watts, your have consumed one kilowatt hour" are worse). As another example, if you have twelve 100 watt light-bulbs on you are using 1200 watts (or 1.2 kilowatts) of power; if you leave them running for 5 hours you will use 6 kilowatt hours of energy.

    • @HusseinDoha
      @HusseinDoha 4 роки тому

      I had the same observations. Thank you for the clarification. Let me ask you this, what if you used 10 bulbs with each of them is a 100w. But you let them on for half an hour, rather than an entire hour? Will you be billed for the half-hour use? Does the utility company take the aggregate of you consumption and then divide them by 24 hours???

    What if the pointer is on a number and the pointer to the right is on 5? Do you record the lower number or did it pass the 0 and you record the actual number the pointer is on? What if the dial to the right is between 5 and 6 ? In other words what numbers are past the 0 and what numbers are before the 0.If the pointer is on a number and the pointer to the right is in 0 then would you record the actual number because the dial to the right did pass 0?

    • @profpogi
      @profpogi 6 років тому

      If the number to the right is on 5, the dial on its left should be right smack in the middle of two numbers, not *ON* a number.

      If the pointer is between the two numbers, the correct number is the lower of the two. However, if it's between 0 and 9, you would read the 9 (0 is considered as 10 so 9 is lower). Here's another trick, if the pointer rested directly on a number, 7 as an example, check the next dial on the immediate right. If that pointer has not passed 0 (in between 9 and 0), the number in question has not been reached. Therefore, it should be read as 6 not 7. This one messed me up all the times.

    Can i do a start period on let's say July 1st and have the end period be August 1 st ?
    And that will tell me how much I used for the whole month of july ?
    Or do I have to do a reading everyday in July to get the month of July reading ?
    Thank you to anyone that can respond.
