Hi Randy, thanks. I'm very happy with the brand Conn. The sound of those horns is naturally that what I like to hear. Before I played Selmer, but had to work very hard to get tone as I liked it. When I discovered this bass, I got hooked and have lots of Conns now. Even sold my selmer alto.
    Thanks for dropping by!
    Kind regards,
    Bert Brandsma

I looked it up, google translate comes up with Dutch Championships rowing.
You know, those small boats they use at the Olympics. They were competing in the river, while we played.

No problem at all. There was a time that Selena was very popular by many people and there was a time when many people were wild about the bass sax.
Omly thing that counts is that people enjoy listening and watching our band. We need many people in the audience!
    Thanks for watching,
    Bert

    Hello Matthew,
Koos is slowly retiring. He will still play the inportant concerts this year, but we are working with new people as well for the banjo.
Two years age Lielian did allready a long series on banjo in the funparc gig.
There are some short fragments of that on youtube allready, but only a few seconds.
    Kind regards,
    Bert

What a great song! I've listened to this a few times now and shared it with friends on Facebook. You guys need to come to the USA and hit the west coast so I can hear you live.

Do you use the blues scale for soloing?

    • @ABrandsma
      @ABrandsma  5 років тому +1

Hello Eidolon. No, the blues scale is an artificial getting together of two tetrachords. However a real blues singer would never go from the top note of one of these tetrachords, up to the next, higher one. The top note of such a tetrachord (F.I. Eb in the tetrachord A - C - D - Eb) always needs to resolve downwards. Otherwise a bluessinger would be cheating, know what I mean? Early Jazz improvisation does not easily fit in the II - \/ = I and scale lessons, like how modern jazz is taught these days. It has a different background. For one thing, II - \/ = I is relatively rare in Early Jazz. Hello Dolly is a song from a 1964 musical and it's form doesn't relate to blues. Also it's mood is different, so I would advice a different approach. The number was made famous by Louis Armstrong. Quite a few trades that are typical in his works can be traced back to his singing experience as a youngster in Barbershop singing. Try to learn the voiceleading lessons of that style and find where they fit in the chord movements of Dolly, is a better way to approach this particular song. So, you'd better learn the chord notes of the harmonic progression of this song, and how they resolve best to the following chords. Do not reduce it to scales.
