I think the reason why Near wasn't as invested in catching A-Kira is simply because Minoru never killed anyone. That means that Minoru isn't a criminal and Near doesn't have any legal reason to pursue him. Unless of course the entire world made a law making it illegal to own a Death Note, which for some reason isn't a thing in this fictional world yet.
Even if near is as invested with the case as ever, it's still impossible to catch minoru. It's near's L.
Light did not do one time crime like Minoru. It's almost impossible to capture Light without knowing about deathnote. L had got many clues and chances are because Light want to challenge L. In fact they directly challenge one another. (Light basically said Yo L: "catch me if you can", and L directly said to Kira: "Kill me if you can").
Edit: After L challenge Kira, Light's goal is not only put fear and kill criminals, but also to kill L (without sacrificing his life span by using shinigami eyes).
That's why, we can't compare Minoru with Light in terms of intelligence because their objectives are different (And why Minoru's chapter is shorter)
Minoru isn't smarter, he's wiser.
He's not wiser as well
Wasi Malik light wasn’t that wise. If he was he wouldnt have picked up that book.
@@MrBurns-fq2xf He was wise because he knew that if he didn't pick death note then the shinigami would give it to someone else. So he kept it because it couldn't be in better hands...
Wasi Malik Light’s hands were arguably the worst, just given how many he was able to kill before being caught. @@ivanhernandez8070 the rule didn't affect Minoru, Ryuk wrote Minoru's name on the Death Note. (that's the one that killed him)

It wasn't only a cop-out. It was a completely new rule given by the Shinigami King, in response to Minoru selling the Death Note. In addition, Ryuk is Ruyk and didn't care to tell Minoru of the new rule before writing his name down.
@@ThatZillaGuy2 If Minoru hadn't told Ryuk to never come see him, he would've warned him about the rule or try something to keep things interesting. Minoru specifically ordered Ryuk to keep his word and never meet each other again. Except it eventually backfired on him.
True. Ryuk didn't really have to follow Minoru's orders though. He sure didn't follow Light's orders in the manga when ordered to kill Near and the other task force members. I do like the fact that Minoru's orders did backfire, making Ryuk reflect that the Death Note does indeed curse its owners with misery, even if they don't write a single name down.
ThatZillaGuy2 The difference was that Ryuk realized when light ordered him to kill Near that Light has lost. The game was over. Minoru lost because he didn’t have any drive. Because his goal was, like him, extremely lazy. As a result, he shunned Ryuk once he believed his job was done.

Minoru seems to be extremely smart, he thinks through his situation and the dynamics and comes up with an almost foolproof plan that just gets thrown out the window because of a literal act of god.
But it's hard to compare Light and Minoru because Light makes it his goal to show us, the world, how smart he is, he's like a boxer climbing the ranks by fighting the strongest (smartest) he can find, while Minoru is focused on having his plan come to fruition.
Their goals are completely different as well, Kira is trying to create an old testament world where evil is always punished but Minoru doesn't try anything that complex.
L and Light lost for the same reason: "They're both childish and hate to lose". Mello had a similar ego. Near had no real ego. Near treated the case as a problem to be solved whereas L treated it more like a game. Near knew how to take losses in his stride and minimize costs while still moving toward a clear outcome. Both Near and Minoru were practically and reasoning without personal involvement. Minoru won in my opinion. @shin jinyi Light appearing in death parade was more like an easter egg or a cameo ,it doesnt mean its canon to the story and they never confirmed that it was really Light Yagami
Ryuk and Light explained that it doesn't have anything to do with the fact of being a death note user or not, but rather that everyone goes to nothingness after dying. I think that is also explained in a how to use section in the manga (I didn't watch the anime yet) that there is where humans go after passing away. Basically in the worls of Death Note, heaven and hell don't exist and neither does God.

@@-schattenpflanze-3755 Lol, good joke.
Jokes aside, he's literally dead. As in, he was killed. He passed away.
I really hated that Minoru died, I mean, he just died because the script wanted that. No one advised him that the rules changed. I'm really mad at that, I mean, why did Minoru had to died?
RIGHTTT????? WHYYY
@@zhulimoon46 I think the point was to emphasize how anyone who possessed the notebook is cursed, even if they never used it for murder.
Ryuk was meant to advised him right? But he remembered that Minoru ask him to never meet him or having a relationship again, Ryuk claim it to itself, Ryuk always keep the promise
@@naveenjacob2440 In the OG series before Light's father dies: Ryuk comments that although Deputy Yagami had the book, he never really used it. Showing that he was still fortunate because he never learned that his own son was Kira.
@ItzAnameOk Yah ur right it'd be more accurate to say that those that utilized it with ill intentions would face some consequences
I think people severely underestimate Minoru's smartness by highlighting Light's achievements and stating his lack of help from Ryuk, even though Light had several privileges under his belt.
Light was able to achieve so much specifically because of his privileged family life. If his dad was not the a high ranking officer in the police department, he would not have had the skills to murder or avoid capture in the first place. In addition to that, no one knew of the Death Note prior to Light's usage and he was well-respected enough in his community for most people who wholeheartedly trust him and follow his command. It's unsurprising Ryuk wasn't used as help very often in comparison to Minoru.
Minoru did not have the luxury of access to the records of people to use the death note, and he was considered to be a commoner in society so he had little to no human support. In addition to that, Minoru himself mentioned that people are a lot more cautious in the post-Kira era and it is also extremely difficult for him to avoid capture due to the new age of internet which Light did not have to live through yet. It's not surprising that he would have to rely on Ryuk. People also fail to realise that Minoru's strategy that he thought in middle school was ultimately undetectable but people could make educated guesses that Light was Kira when he was in high school.
Which Kira is smarter? Based on the definition of "learning faster" I would personally say Minoru, but Light himself shows his ability to use his resources to the fullest extent and was able to avoid the police for years despite the occasional mishaps from his own allies. Both plans caused great difficulty for investigators said and greatly impacted people all over the world. To sum it up, it's really hard to tell which of them is smarter because of the vastly different approaches and backgrounds of their life.
Yeah, smart is just a tool to have help people achieve their specific goals. If one has a personality of ambitious warlords, they will plans and fight out way to make war more favorable. On the other hand, a cocumbine in ancient China must keep themselves alive under the harsh conditions in Imperial Palace from dying. They are not too ambitious, but not dumb enough to displease their higher up. They all have smarts with different life styles, personality, and goals. I think their intellects should have reflect these aspects.
I think light smarter
The fuck you talking about? Ryuk was a great help to Light time and time again, and that's Ryuk who wanted to be just an "observer" but still violated his own neutral stance to help initiate and set up Light's Plans or protect him from being caught.
There's no denying that Minoru is smarter than any normal person, but nowhere near as smart as Light.
If Minoru lived as a long as Light he might of been smarter, or at least as smart as him, but we'll never know.
It doesn't really matter because he had different goals regarding the notebook. Technically, his plan was perfect. His only mistake(arguably) was not worrying about what the shinigami up there would react to his plan.
but nowhere NEAR smart...get it?...yeah?...
Eh I doubt it. His plan wasn't even all that smart. All he did was try and game the system and try and make money off of it but he fucked around with the wrong beings. He was ultimately too young and immature to think of the consequences of trying to profit off of not using the death note and apparently that's the one taboo the Shinigami King just simply couldn't let slide. Had he been more mature he might have been able to think ahead to that point but he couldn't, oh well.
@@Tupadre97 I mean there was no way I'd think of that plan.
I don't know for sure he would become smarter than Light, but he is at least smarter than any of us 😅
@P At the time there were literally no consequences. He thought everything through, and his plan went perfectly. The Shinigami King adding in a rule specifically because of what Minoru did was something no one could have predicted.

I think he was just pissed off at Ryuk for going back to the human world again. The first time probably caused a lot of trouble between the two worlds, and he didn't want Ryuk staying too long.
He requested Ryuk to come back quickly once he's no longer following minoru, but then minoru sold the death note. At that point the shinigami king probably just said "F***! We really need to add some more boundaries!"
the king of the shinigami got angry because the humans put the death note according to the market rules, and the only thing that governs the death note is supposed to be the rules set by the king of the Shinigami

H.Iwaizumi0610 feels bad
There is nothing bad with coming to human world. There is even Death Note rule that says, there may be only 6 shinigamis at the time. Also one shinigamu can only lend 3 notebooks at once. Also one human can have only 6 books at once.

While I haven’t even read the one-shot, I really like Minoru just based on his motivation. While I don’t think he’s nearly as smart as light, near, L or maybe even Mello, I still think he had overall the most reasonable goal. He doesn’t really have any strong conviction to fix the world or gain ultimate power, he’s just a kid who wants to get some money. He’s at least smart enough to know not to risk becoming a murderer and even if he gets caught selling the notebook, he wouldn’t have nearly as many charges as every other death notebook user.
Fantastic analysis, really like the depth and examples you use to prove ya point keep it up ✌️
Near lost because he didn't have the real L to figure out everything for him already like he did last time.
Even if it's L that we are talking about here how could you find minoru? There is litteraly million of people who got 1 billion yen and even if you found minoru you can't even arrest him because he didn't kill anyone

I'm just glad someone admits that light could have won if it wasn't for his stupid ego.
well they had to make fun story....
Well even serial killers leave clue because they like the manipulation of people trying to catch them
Light wouldn't be Light without his stupid ego. This is ego is what drove him to do what he did for the entirety of the series. The reason why Near defeated him was because unlike Light he had no ego or any desire to compete for dominance.
Don't forget that he was Critically Insane.
Light lost cause mikami fucked up his plan, mello facilitated things for near by kidnapping the reporter, forcing mikami to use the book and then steal it, it wasn't his ego.
His goal was nothing big against light's goal but was wise.
Light in my opinion, was a brilliant mastermind of a genius visionary one.
Now having read it, my thought on Minoru is that he was not a genius, nor an idiot too. One thing for certain, he was more like clever. Although it was too bad they had to add another rule so sudden.
Light is definitely smarter, Minoru seems more pragmatic. Technically he won the shinigami king just got salty about the situation and changed the rules.
The shinigami king got alot of salt
If Minoru would have just checked to see if selling the note was a rule he wouldn't have died

Honestly let’s talk about how the Shimigami King was the reason why he died, he truly outsmarted everyone. He wanted it for money, he didn’t have a “god complex” like Light and because he didn’t use the DeathNote for killing people, they wanted Tanaka to face the fate of the user who would, like Riku told Light. Sucks, because I would like to see how his money move would further impact his life and that of Japan!
Loved this video. Till next time 👍
I think Minoru's words at the beginning of the story reveal that he's actually quite smart. Truly smart individuals use their intellect to solve problems of the future, as in societal problems. Light solved some problems, but he also created quite a few as well. Minoru was able to create an economic boon for Japan.
Also, just a hunch, but his seeming apathy towards the bidding process made me feel like he knew how things were going to shakedown. The fact that he obviously didn't want anyone to die makes me further believe that he knew whoever won wouldn't be able to use the Death Note in any case. Maybe Ryuk was entirely upfront with his recalling of Light's story, including the machinations and underhandedness of Shinigami. Maybe this tipped Minoru off that there was a possibility for a bad end.
It’s crazy how anyone can down play light like the man still would’ve won if it was only him vs Near and even when Mello came in Light was still going to win if Mikami didn’t fuck up just think about that for a second
One could argue light trusting Mikami was a mistake on lights part and therefore the reason he lost
In the manga Matsuda suggests that Near manipulated Mikami writing his name in the real Death Note, cause after Light's death Mikami was incarcerated and then died a few days after. I don't know why Light's whole death scene was changed in the Anime.
knteka Makami was the perfect candidate he thought just like “Kira”. Trusting him was no mistake not even Light would expect him to make a stupid mistake like he did Light specifically told him not to act no matter what on your own and Mikami didn’t listen.
El Mina It’s not even possible to affect Mikami because he has the shinigami eyes so no Near didn’t use the deathnote to control him even if he tried it wouldn’t have worked so Matsuda’s theory even in the manga would be false.
@@ireupzz4233 As far as I remember, it's never stated that if you have Shinigami eyes you are immune to the Death Note's power. Can you link me the chapter where it's stated?
Near's weakness: lack of action
Mello's weakness: lack of patience
I do think Ohba and Obata are considering doing a second Death Note, maybe not right away but the fact that they did another one shot simply shows their curiosity in trying to see if there still is an interest in the story going forward.
Just gotta say: Death Note is a perfectly made masterpiece

After L died it wasn't as good
@@TotalTech_ agree l wanted to see a light vs L face off, not some annoying little kid
they shouldve ended it when L died. near and mello suck ass
I've never heard a single other person talk about it, but isn't there actually quite a large plot hole in the bus jacking episode with Raye? After it happens Raye asks Light not to tell anyone that he saw an FBI agent in Japan. Light responds : "I won't tell anyone, including my father". Light never mentions to Raye that his father is a police officer before this, his assumption that Raye knows Light's father's occupation bluntly gives away the fact that Light knows Raye is specifically following him.
Be honest.
