Great info!! So I just thrifted a pair of Levi's. All checks out with what this video says except there is no back patch. They are vintage selvedge, stamps match, rivets all good, all signs point to completely authentic but I'm just stuck on the no back patch. Did they make 501's without a back patch ever? Thank you!
I know my jeans are 35+ years, been in my moms attic for 35+ years. The only thing they have missing is a worn stamp on inside button. These Levis were worn in the early 8o’s. Am I out of luck because of this worn button stamp?
Great video when looking in vintage shops.I have a pair of made and crafted Selvedge from the official levis shop and they don't have the number at the back of the top button so they may be different to the standard version .
Captivating! I need your expertise, or that of your fans. I have 2 questions please. Why does my one pair (501s I think) have an extra size tab/flap attached to the right of the typical patch we're all used to? It extends the patch width about 1/2" and is perforated, I guess to rip off at some point, but I haven't since it's the only pair like it I have encountered, and I like it. It simply restates the size (sideways) and nothing else. This extra tab is not sewn onto the waist like the rest of the patch is, but is clearly an extension of it (all one piece, then perforated). If I would tear it off, which I'm not going to do, it would make the patch look like every other. I wondered if some mysterious tag-puller missed this pair! 2nd question please; I favor 514s, and was wondering why two pair (not blue & not heavy) have black patches on them? I have not been able to find out on my own why these aren't brown like the rest of them. My query only brings up black jeans with black patches, but mine are gray and brown with black patches. Thank you for the video!
Many have that perforated patch. Thats ok. I believe it's done for the size to be easier seen when in the store stacked. Most just rip it off thats why not seen often. Not sure on the black patch but I also have seen many. I believe they just put it on the colors other than blue, but not always, if you google gray levis 514 black label you will see others.
I have a problem with my trifted pair of classic relaxed 550 jeans. All 6 of the items you mentioned are correct except that the rear outside patch is upside down!!! How often does this happen? Is it rare to find and are they worth 1/2 Billion $?
I bought my very first pair of Levi's from the Singapore official store in 2009 but there is no button number, and it's 512 relaxed fit, I search on Google and found Levi's 512 only come for Slim Tapper Jean. I am curious! It can be counterfeit?

don’t worry if the rivet count is different on vintage levi’s my pair of 509s has 5 rivets on the front it doesn’t have the left coin pocket rivet and the coin pocket is smaller sown into the pocket
Great advice, thank you. I like Levi's 501s and wear a 34 34 size. One pair I bought two years ago were the best fit ever, my favourite ever jeans. I bought the same size last year and the fit is completely different. Why is this? Why can't they just make them the same. Both pairs were bought from an official Levi's store..
Part of that is because when clothes are cut in factories, they are cut in huge stacks. I am sure that they have a certain amount of fabric layers for quality, but as they cutting die goes through the fabric, at the bottom, compared to the top, the size will be slightly different. As the die gets more dull, the difference grows. So the pieces cut on the bottom won't be the same as on the top. Each piece of the garment isn't cut by hand, they would be too expensive.
So helpful, thanks 😊! I bought some Levi’s from a charity shop (which is a thrift shop in the USA I believe?). my Levi's have only the different arcuate, they are positioned a little higher on the pockets and the "diamond" shape is not done so well but i think it's just a production error because the other 5 points are alright
Arcuate shape can seem different due to size really big or small sizes due to small or bigger pocket. The diamond I often see with the stitch thru the middle loose if thats what your referring to.
I saw a really nice pair of jeans. If the number on the back of the bottom is 524M and the one on the tag is 524, does it mean they are fake? I’m not sure about this

Some vintage have real leather, but most have a paper like material faux leather.
@@PickRoll thanks. I bought some Levi's and I'm trying to determine whether they're genuine. There's nothing obvious, but the button and a rivet came off
@@RambloManiacs There's other things to look at, like stitching, but the few things I mention are enough to determine
I purchased a pair of 501s and have verified all numbers, tags and patches. These have tan interior front pockets! Also the color of the denim inside is not white/blue, it is gold. Ideas?
Dont think I ve ever seen that.
Hi! Thanks a lot for this very practical video! I have one pair of levis which look truly authentic for what I understand. I mean tags and back pockets,... it's a 501xx from 90's if I check everything but the rivets are only stamped on the front. Is it possible to get that? Considering all the rest and the quality, I am very surprised.. thanks for the help!!!
Yes Ive seen some rivets inside without letters, not sure why but they only had rings around it
I bought a pair of 511 from Amazon direct not a reseller. All your tips passed except the red tag just says R? No Levi text. Everything else checks out. They also fit amazing.
Levis says 1 out of every 100 pairs made has a blank tab. It happens when they change the thread spool that stitches Levis onto tab. It's good.
How much price Amazon?
Does it matter how sharp the diamond is for the arcuate? I have a diamond on mine but it’s not that sharp of a diamond, it rounds a bit
The rest of the 5 checks pass though
I dont think so, if all else checks out you should be good
Thanks Steve, always the best information. I appreciate this. I had no idea.
thanks alot
my Levi's have only the different arcuate, they are positioned a little higher on the pockets and the "diamond" shape is not done so well but i think it's just a production error because the other 5 points are alright
I’m not sure about this
Ive seen a list of codes and some had the M. Should be fine
Hi, I have a pair of 501XX Big E Redline Selvedge jeans and I'm trying to tell if they are real or fake and their age. Rivets have Levis logo on back but they are raised not pressed in stamped. Tag also reads Every Garment Guranteed above lot number. Main button say 554 but doesn't correspond with a long white tag inside. Said that they were made for Europe Belguim. Any help would be appreciated.
Every Garment Guaranteed was on the rear labels for a period.Vintage will not have a long tag inside, will be small/square. You can send me pics on IG and i'll take a look
@@PickRoll what’s you IG?
@@jukeboxjodi1 look in description box of video
I bought a pair of vintage levis. they are perfect in stitching and details but have a ykk zip and no buttons. are they legit?
Ykk were /are used on Levis. What do you mean no buttons? Do you mean no "Rivets". If so, older didnt have them, I have a pair from the 70s with no rivets
Is this true for women’s jeans as well?
All Levis yes
I have a pair of 501's Premium with the number 215 stamped on the button and 1005 on the tag. Other things like stitching, labels etc. look legit. Made in South Africa. Bought new off Ebay. Fake or Real?
The premium are newer sold at places like walmart. Send me pics of tags on IG or email. Look in description box for ig/email
Do they produce models with no tm marking on the back side. I have a pair of 512 slim taper. It dont have the tm marking on backside near the 512
Are you talking about the tiny R ? on the leather patch or the red tab?
@@PickRoll im talking about the leather patch. There was neither tm nor r just 512 in one of my levis.
Such a great quick insight to spotting fakes. Thank you Steve!!!
Thanks buddy.
Does this apply for denim’s tear Levi jeans?
I dont know what you mean by denims tear
everything else seems fine i just don’t have a tag on the inside of the back of the pants, i bought them on depop, also the levi back print seems fine just a small small uneven but like i said everything else seems fine
Good
You forgot to mention the zipper. It should have an engraved Levi's or for newer models it should have the batwing symbol.
thanks
Hi Steve I just started reselling and today bought a pair of 505xx. I can’t determine their age Can you help me? There is a one small care tag with no logo next to the pocket on the inside. The patch on the back says Made in USA. Can you give me a way to send you some pictures?
are you on instagram? if so my ig is in video description box, or my email.. Sounds like an 80s tag, but send pics and i'll try to help
I bought some Levi's made in USA 🇺🇸. But now not easy to find Levi's made in USA
Yes can be tough to find
Have you ever seen any where the size label on back is red and seemingly made of leather?
Ive seen leather. Maybe seen colored but not sure
I have a pair of 550. They are right except for revert: inside there isn’t stamped. I think they’re made in Usa from ‘80. Paper red label insight.
if your on Instagram, send me pics of inside label both side. Mt ig is in video description box
@@PickRoll done!
See I’m glad I figured out that some pairs have the more papery label and some have the thick leather ones. I just bought two pairs and the cheaper pair had the papery one so I freaked out and thought they were fake.
The rear patch, yes,
One fake 501...rest was at Greenvale factory outlet for 25bucks...real denim is a Japanese one nothing beats it...pricing on Levis have gone up north after listing on NY exchange
thanks
Great video Steve. I knew a couple of them, but not all. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
A pair I found tick all boxes except for the back tag is smaller than usual
Which one, the Red tab or the leather patch?
Is there a way I could show you a pair of Levis and you could help me identify them? There isn't an inside tag. Thank you so much.
Yes on IG, its in the video description box, without a tag its tough but i'll try
Could you advise please good online shops of not expensive Levi’s jeans shipping all over the world in U. S. A? Thanks.
My ebay store link is in description box under video, I sell denim/Levis, Maybe you will see something you like, otherwise I really don know of any. You could also tell me what your looking for and I could possibly find them, thank
Exactly Original 501 Levis jeans Made in Pakistan dont have number...
how to maching.
ALL levis have the number on the button back
@@PickRoll What about outlet jeans/product which are normally end of line/season or have minor faults like the number on the back of the button
Are they also fake
I’m sure outlets sell products cheaper due to a slight issue with product. Is this true for you to?
On the back right pocket, there is a red. ' Levis' tag. Does letter e suppose to be capital or small letter. Does :
Levis or LEVIS indicates whether real or not..tq mr
There are vintage Big E, which can be worth good money. Then Levi's re-released a big E in modern years but not worth much. So It's either LEVIS or LeVIS
How do you find the date? Is it the number at the very bottom?
I have a video on that, Each style tag is different
Hi bro! Do you know if it might be more factory codes?? Bc i just got ones from pakistan with the 8520 number, but there is one from Vietnam with other code
Ive yet to find a complete list,
Hi dude i bought a pair of 501 but It hasn't pc9 code on label but there is fabric code 4309
I don't know if It Is a fake or not
Where did you buy? Are they new modern or vintage?
new modern@@PickRoll
I've got a pair of 511s the number in them is 4309, I can't find the number on any list, are these likely fake?
I havent seen a totally complete factory list. Im sure they are good, just check the other things mention. If that # is on the tag, your good
@@PickRoll everything else matches up from your video, thanks
@@lphoulihan Good,
Now, I’m going to check every pair of Levi’s that I have listed!! I had no idea there could be counterfeits!!
Yes, they are out there, thanks
Did levi's ever sell 510s with a lighter material and no rivets?
Not sure
FROM CUBA.
Everything you are saying is OK BUT BUT you are missing the most important, the way is finish on the interior the doble sewing stitches and the end of the waist band. The way is done is by Levi's is unique because of the machine they use at the factory to close the end of the waist band.
Thanks.
Informative detective work video. But seriously, Levi’s , Wranglers have priced themselves to a level where they deserve to be copied. No longer for working people. Who cares about a friggin’ rivet if it’s dark in a bar and those jeans were 70 % discount ?
True, expensive new.
Plus people do care because some collect Levis and some older used can sell/cost big money, so they dont want fakes.
Thanks for valuable informations, i checked my thrifted ones.Thank god they are real. But i couldn’t find the factory 247 in the list. Any idea?
I haven't seen a complete factory list yet, I wouldn't worry.

El código de fabrica es 5163 y no esta en la lista que muestras , es real?
english?
Wow, thanks! Did t know there were counterfeit Levi’s, should have known…
Yea, there is. thanks
So as long as the button stamp matches the inside tag ( and all the other things mentioned ) is most likely my pair is legit vintage pair ? 😄
yes. Of course always other things, but if those main check out should be good. See my vid on how to read the date on tag
@@PickRoll and for sure the number stamped on the top button bigger sign of being authentic & yes I saw that :) mine would be July of 1973

Hi. First of all GREAT video. I just bought a pair of 501 and the code behind the button is 4985 but in the ribbon tag is 04985. Also it said Made in Egypt but in your video says Egypt code is 3757. Can I say 100% that this is fake?
no , that list isnt a complete list. I cant say for sure without seeing,
@@PickRoll Thanks man.
absolutely true , replica levis from china dont have the # 1 … great job !
thanks for watching
Mine have the number stamped on the inside of the button but not on the tag and the number doesn’t match with any of the factories
I have yet to see a complete list with all factories, but the number should match to tag, depending unless they are really old
I always bought "Ls" as we called them UNTIL I found I could buy 3 pair of jeans that looked as good as Levi's for the price of 1 pair of Levi's Jeans. 🤔
It's all perspective, and Levis arevery cheap compared to some brands that are over $100 new, thanks
It's not about how good they look, it's the fitting, the pattern n the feel that matters. I'm not a brand person at all but when it comes to jeans, I only buy Levis for what I stated above
Awesome info thanks steve !!
thanks Jake
Good stuff. My 559's checked out. But of course I bought them from Macy's.
Cool. Check thrift stores. I always find/see Levis, including vintage
In my jeans, the code on the back of the button and the tag match. But on the tag it says that they are made in Bangladesh, but in your video the code of Bangladesh is 4582, and on my jeans it is 5098. Does this mean that I have a fake?
that list is not complete, So I wouldnt worry
I didn’t realize this! Thank you sir! Now I know what to look out for🤘💪
glad it helped
Everything is good on mine except i have code 5098 which doesn't show up on the list of factories you posted. Any idea where that code is from?
not sure, I havent seen a complete list so far.
The code on the button says 4985 where as on the tag inside says 404985. Is this an issue. Everything else checks out
sounds good
Just checked all my 8 pairs ?? IM GOOD 👍
Cool
I have a 3296 # on mine. Where’s that code from?
I don't know factory codes
