I love the Gurdy because of that ability, it both allows a mimic like effect where if you know what you're doing you can play just about any song, and secondly you can create music from such a wide variety of genres

I watched a vid on its history and I think it had to do with the instrument spreading to the lower classes, and, as you can imagine, those without the rescorcrs to maintain the instruments would be left with lopesided wheels and buzzer strings with the wrong amount of tension. Basically it spread from the church to lower classes then classisum happened.

Added to the points others mentioned here, the hurdy gurdy fell into disfavour because it's an utter pain to maintain and prepare for play, compared to comparable instruments like the lute, aud, harp and so on. The main strings can't rub directly onto the wheel; they must be jacketed in cotton treated with rosin. Too much rosin, and the strings don't "grab" the wheel for a good sound; not enough, and they screech instead of droning harmoniously. And that's just setting it up to start playing. By contrast, rosin on a violin's bowstring lasts a long time, and one needs only to rub in a little more before sitting down to play.
That said, it's totally worth the effort, IMHO.

    Superbe composition.

At the first bird like screech I was convinced a small animal had decided to empty its lungs in the middle of your recording. I was wondering why you didn't look perturbed by it, then the camera panned down and showed the instrument making it again, on purpose! I said out loud, "No way!" We have invented nothing like this today. I'm so glad people still play it!!🙏

don't get me wrong, what he does with it is awesome and he's most likely among the best players of this instrument, but what he does, you do with a digital setup and a guitar as well, and THERE IS digital treatment of the sound on this track, he register & playback loops, added reverbs, among other things. But it's not as impressive because everyone can play the guitar with little effort, this, is another story, and a very beautiful music :)

You are a pioneer sir. I love it individuals take the past and modernize it. As a designer and artist I tend to embrace the past for what it is and spin it on its head. I can't tell how many times your score has inspired my paintings as a Texas based Artist taking traditional impressionism and bringing it up to speed with our modern world. Your work is truly an inspiration. Thank you
