- Rainbow’s “Bent Out of Shape” album was released on this date in 1983 and featured this fine song, “Street of Dreams”. Love this song.
I’ve never been a “guitar guy”, meaning, I don’t have any real guitar heroes, but, when the question is asked, Richie Blackmore’s name always comes to mind. I think I like a lot of the classical elements he brings to his music. If pressed, I’d have to say that this might be one of my favorite guitar solos. It’s short. It’s sweet. It employs an octave box. And everybody wants to hear it.
The bass was played by Roger Glover, of course, who I would describe as the John McVie of hard rock - always playing a supportive role and serving the song with just the right part without ever calling any undue attention to himself even though he had the ability to tear it up as demonstrated on some earlier material, like “Highway Star”.
Great vocals as well by Joe Lynn Turner.
Always liked this song. That sequenced synth part in the background is just right in terms of tasteful use of synth in hard rock.
Me too. I agree, the sequencer was a nice touch.
My all time favorite band. You nailed it. In a couple of interviews I have seen with Ritchie, he names this song as the one he is most proud of because he feels he found what he was looking to achieve with it. Great job.
Very cool and thanks! That's great, because I think the song epitomizes everything that Blackmore is. Thanks again, Jeff!
One of my favorite songs from that era. Another one I learned early on. I had a great friend feeding me tasty music back then. He was pretty much responsible for the wide range of artists that I was experiencing and learning.
Fantastic selection and job on this one! The Gibson is nice but I want more StingRay!
Very cool. You're lucky your friend had good taste in music otherwise who knows what might have happened.
Thanks. I actually just did a couple of covers using the Stingray since I broke it out for a recording session. It had been a while since I'd played it and it felt good.
I love this music, the bass fits well.
That’s great to hear!
Excellent cover. Roger Glover always was a killer bassist. You nailed this one, Thanks \m/
Thanks a lot.
TJH3113 Right On \m/
Nice work once again Troy :) Rainbow were the first band I ever saw (if you don't count the support band I suppose, who was Lita Ford) and it was for the Bent Out of Shape tour also! Front row right in front of Mr Blackmore too! A double bonus was that the artwork for the other single from this album (Can't Let You Go) included photos from that gig, with the b-sides being taken live from the show also :) I was super chuffed. Anyway, great cover ;)
Great story, I'm glad you didn't upset him and cause him to walk off the stage. I just looked up the pic you mentioned...man what a rig Glover had! Thanks a lot.
Well played and the bass sound is bad ass!
Thanks.
Great bass playing you did not miss a note sir.
Thanks a lot.
@@TJH3113 I have watched a lot of your videos and I picked up the bass again after not playing for 4 years and I must say I am picking out faster watching you than from other methods of learning bass.
i see the day is rather cloudy where you are by the reflection of outside on you guitar. Lovely song my friend!!!!! '"-)
I'm glad you liked it. Thank you Marvine.
Once again, another amazing job. 👍👍
Thanks again!
Very nice video! To discover a Rainbow song here among all of other Rush videos I already like to watch is a lovely surprise. Thanks
Thanks.
Arguably Rainbow's best tune---well done!
I'd agree with you on that. Thanks.
Got ta love the 80's ....... Great job Troy.
Cheers.
Thanks.
One of my all time faves-beautifully covered, Thanks Mr Troy
Thank you. I'm glad you liked it.
Nice! Your attack is great.
Thank you.
excellent
thank you
I'll never forget you Troy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Marvine :-)
Nor I, you, Marvine.
@@TJH3113 you are a very interesting person and I would like to know more about you. I know you have a geaat sense of humor. I can tell by your verbal presentations. You make me chuckle when I hear your small comments. Who do you drive a truck for? You probably listen to good music while you drive. :-)
I THINK YOUR BEST BASS COVER AT ALL..I'M SERIOUS...A+++
That's nice of you to say. Thank you.
Knowing your humble personality, I have a feeling you do have at least one guitar, too, and that you can play it real well. It's almost eerie how similar Roger Glover's style is to John McVie's one. It's that tight grooving, pumping quality locked to the kick drum that I love about it. I guess the mixes did them justice, too.
Sorry to disappoint, but I'm a one trick pony. I owned a guitar for about 15 minutes 30 year ago and had no patience for those tiny strings.
Damn. Maybe it's time to pick up the mandolin.
The Gibson looks nice , needs a video appearance =)
Be careful what you wish for. It's someone's birthday tomorrow.
YES , Mr Simmons
You are very crafty.
As always...fantastic job!
Lovely Troy!!!!!!! Thanks!!!! Marvine
Thank you Marvine.
Perfect master
Haha... thanks.
...nuts...I thought it was from "The Damned"....they had a "Street of Dreams" too....
I want to thank you sir, you covers are really inspiring to me and your channel is my go to when i want to learn a new song or to listen to a good bass line i caught in a song !
Keep on rocking !
I think you like 80's song, but mostly rock. Why didn't you try to cover Level 42? I know it is a fusion fusion jazz, but the bass lick is tingling enough :)
greetings from Indonesia
Great job dude!
Thanks.
O baixista que eu sonhava em minha banda.
Bravo!!
Pretty awesome!!!, you should make a book of tabs and sell them😃 I would be the first one to get one!
Thanks. I really don't understand the value of tabs.
That was true to the original thank you!
I try! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
Great cover as always. After following your channel for about a year now I've noticed that you only do rock, pop, and prog music. I've always wondered if you ever got into jazz or listened to any jazz bass players? (People like Hadrien Feraud, John Patitucci, Eddi Gomez, Anthony Jackson, the obligatory Jaco Pastorius, etc.) Or any solo bass players like Michael Manring? Most of their stuff is beyond covering unless if you practice 6 hours a day for a couple years but it is still awesome to listen to what they can do :D
Thanks. I never got into Jazz of any sort, it just never appealed to me. I did like a bit of fusion stuff, like Al Di Meola and Jean Luc Ponty (I've covered a few songs by them) but that was as close to "jazz" as my interests ever got. As far as solo bass goes, I have even less interest in that. I've always been more a fan of good songs with good arrangements, lyrics, and melodies.
The bassline without bcking track was great, i mean whole thing was, but especially that
I do that from time to time... not sure why. I'll try to do it more in the future, people seem to appreciate it.
Cool song, never heard this one before. I forgot to ask this in your Open Secrets cover, but could you elaborate more on the fact that you almost bought a Wal? (You've probably been asked this already, sorry!)
I hope that you liked it. The Wal? All will be revealed very soon.
+TJH3113 I did like it!
😍👍👍👍
Thanks Heni!
What do you think of Saxon?
I don't believe I've ever listened to them. I was never a big "metal" guy. They were metal, right?
TJH3113 Yes they are.
not a big fan of this era of rainbow but enjoyed the cover as usual
I lean toward the pop stuff over the heavy stuff myself, but thanks for checking it out.
ah, the Guild. how i've missed it. anyways, solid playing as usual, even though the music has that weird 80s vibe (maybe it was all the drugs and synthesizers that made the music so weird?). speaking of 80s music, would there ever be the chance of a Boston cover? or are ya not a fan of their music? it seems like it'd be right up your alley, and Tom is one crafty bastard (dual role as bassist AND guitarist. his EB-0 is torn up from his experiments, like a Frankenbass) so maybe that'd be something to look into?
Thanks. I actually did a cover of "Hitch a Ride" by Boston. Boston had got some deceptively difficult bass lines.
Ah, I wasn't aware that you'd already covered them, but they do indeed. Tom mixes it up from song to song, so some are played with fingers and others with a pick.
+TJH3113 If you haven't already, do you have any plans to do a cover of Whitesnake's "Fool for your Loving"" - the original 1980 release? ua-cam.com/video/qzjCl6G-Wfw/v-deo.html Thanks for considering it!
No, I haven't but I just listened to it and liked it a lot...much more than the other version. Bought it!
@@TJH3113 Great! I might wind up buying it myself. I understand why Coverdale redid "Here I Go Again", at least the first time, but IMHO the original of "Fool for Your Lovin" is all that is needed. If NASA or SpaceX sent a deep space probe with Earth song tracks on it, this would be the version on it.😎
tabss pls
hope he will answer after 2 years hehe
I'm sorry but I don't have any tabs. I play by ear and memory and don't transcribe anything. If I had them, you'd be most welcome to them.
@@TJH3113 its ok i transcribed listening to you hehe
@@TJH3113 great job by the way!!
nice how bout some foghat third time lucky
Thanks. Eh...
