      I know this going to sound like an apples v oranges kind of thing but the Pirate Land of current days is the reincarnation, of a sort, of an old, now long defunct amusement park that was located several miles outside of Myrtle Beach. I think the park closed sometime in the 1970s.

    When I was in high school 25+ years ago we would head to Lakewood every Spring Break. It was a whole caravan from western NY to South Carolina; my parents and brothers & sisters, cousins and aunt & uncle, and grandparents. We had a few pop-up campers and had a blast. The campground was HUGE! People were never anything but nice, campground was beautiful, real nice beachfront. Good memories. I’ll have to get back there someday.

    We live in SC. Have camped at all the campgrounds one time or another over past 70 years. You ranked them right. Lakewood is nice and clean. Has an ópen air "chapel" but other than that, do not think anyone would even notice a difference. State Park is fine. Myrtle Beach traffic is killer. But that's just the beach, anywhere. Fine eats next door in Murrels Inlet. Good times, everywhere! Come join us. Look forward to talking with you!

    Your order is ok. I would however add one more which would jump to the top of the list even though it is not in MB. Huntington Beach State Park. It may not suit you for a long visit but we do go there as it is almost as beautiful as our backyard and only 80 miles away. We also stayed at the various beach campgrounds before we built a home in Loris but stayed in Yogi Bear's in Tabor City for seven months while the sticks were being put together and now travel about 5,000 miles a year on a slow year. Happy Camping!

    Myrtle Beach SP is the last place that we camped before we purchased our travel trailer; which coincidentally we purchased in the MB area (Longs, SC) and we had to travel there from our home in FL (it was a GREAT deal). Although we did not camp with our TT at MB and can not compare to others, from what we experienced there, I would put MB SP at the top.

      Carolina Pines / Sun Outdoors is located in Conway SC, not Myrtle Beach. Since the park isn’t in Myrtle Beach and also does not have Ocean access, it would not belong in this video.

    Agree with your list, our trip this past weekend was good at OL, we are going back again in June with the grandkids and then I think that itch will be scratched. Our reason for this past weekend was to check out the state parks, MBSP looks great, but Huntington Beach was nice also. On our way home today we swung through Willow Tree RV resort in Long, SC (not far from North MB) what a BEAUTIFUL place, we are really looking forward to going there later this summer. One bone of contention I have with Ocean Lakes and Lakewood is their pet breed restriction ~ it’s crap! And although I saw some of the very breeds on the restriction list in there this weekend, it’s not a risk I would take since they claim to kick people out if found, that’s another reason I won’t return to OL after the family trip that is already booked.

    My husband and I are like you love Myrtle Beach State Park. Have stayed at Lakewood and Myrtle Beach Travel Park as well when we had our grandson with us we live in the area so we checked out Ocean Lakes and Pirate Land and neither one appealed to us. Ocean Lakes was way way too crowded and busy. And their customer service was very poor . I went to the desk to ask for a visitor pass and they were very cold. My grandson would probably like Pirate Land. But that day that we checked out the campgrounds we looked at Lakewood also and that had the best to offer for us. We stayed there this year for his spring break. But when it's just the two of us the state park is number one.

    MB State Park is often really, really crowded during the summer months. Otherwise, it is fantastic and the staff is wonderful.
    MB KOA is very nice in the off-season, at least, but I haven’t personally stayed during the summer. My sister has and her family did like it.
    I know the family who owns Lakewood, and they are great people. Yes, it’s a big campground and yes, it’s going to be busy, but they have a stage show during the summer and they have nice amenities. The only reason I haven’t stayed there is because I haven’t had time to set up a stay, between work and other camping trips. I’ll probably stay sometime in the off season.

      Hi Ken,
      Apache - well, we’ve walked through there and let’s just say it wasn’t on our list because it wasn’t a good fit for us. Spaces are incredibly close together.

    Yeah i like Ocean Lakes wanted to move their BUT it's really pricey $450 a month PLUS for a lot yearly. Then what you buy is over priced and finance i think they said it's 1 place in town that will finance only and you gotta have 20% down. So I've been looking at other places hahaha

    i manage an RV park in SC and as far as mail, we accept however there is alot of cons for the resort regarding this courtesy. first if you “ change “ your address to the resort you cannot reroute after because you have given a commercial address therefore leaving mounds of mail undeliverable after guest has left..Second people have packages delivered weeks and months prior to their arrival and space is limited. also for those who do not pick up in a timely manner places like AMAZON will not just simply pick back up and return. so not really fair to base a rating on mail issues.

    • @liferedesigned
      @liferedesigned  4 місяці тому

      So, for reference - we are full timers and believe it or not, mail is a HUGE plus for us, so much so that if we can't get it there, we (and many others) will go to the place that will. So, YES it is fair that when a service that was once offered is taken away ... it will affect the rating. Judging by the empty spaces while all the other parks in the area were full ... people voted with their wallet.
      No offense to you personally but the industry has changed, Bingo on Friday nights is no longer what RVer's are looking for! It's all about the convenience- don't even get me going about what RVer's want for wifi :)
      safe travels.

    Still searching for my RV and I'm at my wit's end dealing with FB marketplace people/ads...lol. I did find one I'm interested in that's in MB...would you go look at it for me so I don't have to drive 3 hours? j/k...
    Back in the late 80s after my high school best friend and I got our driver's licenses when we turned 16, (our b-days are 15 days apart) we went to MB the first weekend after school was done for the summer in 87, 88, & 89...stayed/camped at MB SP each time as his father had an army surplus 6-man canvas tent...good times as MB was nowhere near as commercialized back then as it is today and everything was CHEAP! Prior to going, we would spend a couple months collecting aluminum cans to take to the recycle yard for $$$...usually collected enough to pay for gas...which was CHEAP!

    I would put Myrtle Beach State Park first. I looked at Lakewood while you were talking, and I don't like RV parks where you are right on top of your neighbor. I been to the KOA at the Outer Banks, it feels like you are parking your RV in a parking lot. That is just me.

    • @liferedesigned
      @liferedesigned  10 місяців тому

      Depends on the site at the State Park - first time we stayed we were in the middle and had people jammed on top of us. If you can score that outer ring it is amazing!
      Lakewood - take a lakeside site and you have plenty of room

    Well, for the savvy investor, rather than an RV Park, the better bet is to look for a fully remodeled MH in a waterfront community with homes that don't look like MH's, since they have dormers and bay windows. Even in communities which do not allow rentals, someone buying as a second home and representing at the outset that "family members from all over" will get to enjoy the beach, can list on "Furnished Finder" and rent to nurses, 3 months at a time. Since the premium communities in NMB (actually there is just one - "Foxfire") have over half of the neighborhood only there in high season, if you find a home by the pool and intracoastal pier, and use it as a vacation home for part of the year and "furnish finder" the rest, that is a SMART, SMART, SMART investment!
    Zillow "North Myrtle Beach homes for sale for $125,000 and less, and you may just be able to find a turnkey home where the price is right!

    I am currently staying at Myrtle Beach travel park. This is my 4th time here and I don’t really have anything to compare it to since I have only been to the Travel Park. I do like it here and I have a site close to the beach which is a plus for us. The other parks just looked too big and I like the fact that golf carts are very limited.
