  • Emilija is a descendant of the DP generation. She has always been interested in being a part of Lithuanian community in the USA as she danced in “Liepsna”, a local Lithuanian dance group in New Jersey. She explains about Kerney, Newark, Jersey City, Elisabeth, Bayone former and still existing Lithuanian sites.
The interview was recorded during the "Destination Lithuanian America 2022" expedition by Aistė Žemaitienė and Augustinas Žemaitis. The aim of these expeditions is to create the online map of Lithuanian heritage sites in America map.truelithuania.com as well as the online encyclopedia of the Lithuanian heritage sites outside Lithuania global.truelithuania.com

My Lithuanian great grandparents settled in Phila. then moved to Freehold, NJ. There was a small but active Lithuanian community in Freehold, NJ and they had a Lithuanian club for wedding receptings, dances and other social activities. My uncle was treasurer of the Lithuanian Club. There never was a Lithuanian Church in Freehold but lots of Polish in South River and South Amboy,, NJ with Polish Churches and schools.

Do you know if this Lithuanian Club in Freehold, NJ had its own building? Does the building still survives (even if the club is closed)?
